In the mid 1990s I, and the family, went camping with three other families. Sitting around the campfire with the other parents, after all the grade school aged kids went to bed, I learned something very interesting. It turns out a child in each of the four families was found by their local school district to be ADD. All were strongly encouraged to see a physician and acquire scripts for their medical condition.

The FISA Amendments Act (FAA) of 2008 gave the NSA expansive power to spy on Americans' international email and telephone calls. However, last month, in a letter to Senator Ron Wyden, a government official publicly disclosed that the NSA's surveillance had gone even further than what the law permits, with the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC) issuing at least one ruling calling the NSA's actions unconstitutional. The government further disclosed that the FISC had determined the government's surveillance violated the spirit of the law on at least one occasion, as well. EFF's Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit seeks disclosure of any written opinions or orders from FISC discussing illegal government surveillance, as well as any briefings to Congress about those violations.

I think the gun grab will go like this. Government agents, i.e. police and military, will seize all sports stores weapons and ammo. All retail outlets will be grabbed at once. Known gun dealers will be arrested and their guns and ammo seized. This will lure some outspoken gun owners out in a public protest where some will be shot and the others arrested. Threats of long prison sentences will compel many others to turn in their guns. Those trying to travel with guns or hide their guns will will stand out and be arrested. Another appeal to turn them in. An appeal to turn in your neighbor and then its door to door.

No doubt the military and "law enforcement" will gladly turn on the citizens. Years ago though I read about one possible exception that the government was concerned about. U.S. Air Force officers were deemed least likely to turn on the citizenry and most likely to rebel against the government in such a situation. That was 20 years ago. It could all be different now.
