Castro, Cuba, Cars and Failure

Posted by M. C. on November 27, 2016

Fidel Castro is dead. Neocons warmongers are celebrating, Hollywood’s socialist half wits are mourning, Cubans may finally get a chance to breathe.

Brother Raul has been in charge for a while now and one of the few constructive things Obama has done is work with Raul to open up Cuba to the US economy. When Raul joins Fidel the reformation may take off if the US prez permits.

The enduring legacy of Cuba and Castro, that no one will discuss, is that embargos do not work. The Iraq embargo resulted in untold suffering, little food, no medicine and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent men, women and children. The Korean embargo has famously resulted in the citizenry consuming tree bark for the lack of real food. The ultimate vegan experience.

Cubans lack for much, notably modern autos and replacement parts for the pre-Castro model cars that populate the island nation.

The common thread in these examples is the politicians and armies lack for nothing. Most notably North Korea has developed to a degree nuclear weapons and short/medium range delivery vehicles.

Embargoes are meant to influence a foreign governments foreign policy. The real result is people suffer and the government and armies in question make sure their status quo is maintained.  The only foreign policy change likely to occur is increased hatred of the US.

I doubt we will hear much of that while the current news cycle lasts.

Be seeing you
