It has all taken a step beyond obedience. Obedience implies an option to choose. Today creeping “credentialism” is killing most creativity. Since more and more endeavors require certifications, licenses, and other proof of active and committed conformity only the few who create these conditions and requirements have any real power. Although Thomas Edison founded General Electric, today he would not have the right credentials to be employed there in any meaningful capacity. He just wouldn’t be “qualified.”
