Before you ask. Frank Ifield did NOT do this first. He did the first fast version.

I found a video of Ifield being interviewed maybe 10 years ago on Aussie TV. Frank was from down-under. He said he really liked the song but everyone was doing it agonizingly slow.

The earliest version I found was Jo Stafford in the early 40’s. It was good needless to say with Jo Stafford.

Many others covered it. Doris Day and Nat King Cole for starters.

Slim Whitman did a good fast version.
