In Honor Of Lives Lost In The Sub, Biden Announces Another $5 Billion For Ukraine

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As hope for rescuing the crewmembers of the Titan submersible continues to dwindle, President Joe Biden has pledged to honor the lives lost in the tragedy by sending another $5 billion to Ukraine.

“It’s the best way to honor their lives,” Biden said to reporters gathered outside the White House. “Listen, folks. These brave men took a great risk to explore the remains of the Titanic, which is why it’s only fitting that we remember them by sending an additional $5 billion of taxpayer money to Ukraine. Cheesefuzzlegarbit!”

The submersible has been lost below the surface of the Atlantic Ocean for several days, with rescue efforts thus far unable to locate it. The Biden administration expressed its concern for those on board and stated the tragedy is an inspiration to continue to support Ukraine’s war effort against Russia. “These men aboard the lost submersible loved freedom,” said White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre, a history-making black lesbian. “You know who also loves freedom? President Zelensky and the Ukrainian military. That’s why, as a tribute to the submersible tragedy, we will be sending Ukraine several submarines full of cash.”

Critics of the administration were quick to question what sending more funding to Ukraine has to do with the lost submersible. “They’ll use any excuse to send Zelensky more money,” said Senator Rand Paul. “I’m surprised they aren’t sending a few billion as a memorial for the Titanic itself.”

At publishing time, President Biden thanked Senator Paul for his suggestion and announced an additional $7 billion as a remembrance of the sinking of the Titanic.

Biden Wants Sanctions for Uganda Because Its Government Passed Anti-LGBT Laws | Mises Wire

Posted by M. C. on June 5, 2023

The proposed method of punishing Ugandans is rather curious, however. Note that the sanctions being discussed include—ironically—cutting off AIDS relief dollars, plus dollars that the regime has long insisted are absolutely vital to economic development and poverty relief in the developing world. If that’s true, then the US regime proposes trying to impoverish ordinary Ugandans as punishment for acts of the Ugandan regime.

Denouncing the Saudis or the Qataris, on the other, hand might bring geopolitical “complications” and thus you won’t hear much about Saudi or Qatari punishment of homosexual acts in the US media or in Washington.

Ryan McMaken

In an excellent display of how US foreign policy can be used as a means of pandering to domestic interest groups, the Biden administration has threatened to impose sanctions on Uganda as punishment for that regime’s adoption of new laws criminalizing some types of homosexual behavior.

While it is abundantly clear that this move from the Ugandan state presents absolutely no threat to any vital US interest, the Biden administration apparently believes the situation requires immediate action by the US regime.

According to Axios, the Biden Administration’s proposed actions

includ[e] whether the U.S. will continue to safely deliver services under the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief and other forms of assistance and investments. … Biden administration officials will also review Uganda’s eligibility for the African Growth and Opportunity Act, which provides eligible sub-Saharan African countries with duty-free access to the U.S. market for hundreds of products.

What exactly are these new laws that require the State Department to get involved in the internal affairs of a country 8,000 miles away? According to The Hill

The new anti-gay law would impose the death penalty in cases of “aggravated homosexuality” and would impose a life sentence for engaging in gay sex. The state defines “aggravated homosexuality” as homosexual acts carried out by those infected with H.I.V. or homosexual acts that involve children, disabled people, or those drugged against their will.

Or put another way, the death penalty will be imposed in many cases on those found guilty of engaging in sex with children and with people unable to consent. Even in those cases, these are pretty harsh penalties, and certainly few Americans—from any part of the political spectrum—would support such measures.

It is also notable that the US regime appears to now be fixated on such laws in Uganda when similar laws already exist on the books of several US allies. For example, the death penalty can be imposed for various homosexual acts in Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. “Death by stoning” is also inflicted on alleged homosexuals in US ally Pakistan. Moreover, after 20-years of US occupation, Afghanistan imposes similar punishments. Those are just the places where the death penalty is potentially imposed. Homosexual acts are criminalized in a variety of countries that retain friendly relations with the US including Egypt—the top recipient of US foreign aid—plus Iraq, Jordan, South Sudan, and Nigeria. Homosexual sex between males can bring life imprisonment in Tanzania.

So why is Uganda now so much in the crosshairs while Saudi Arabia escapes notice?

The fact is the US regime is threatening sanctions on ordinary Ugandans because it can.  Given that there is no sizable or electorally powerful Ugandan population in the US, it costs the administration nothing to denounce Uganda while also virtue signaling to extremely powerful and well-funded domestic LGBT interest groups.

Biden Signs Executive Order to Impose Sanctions on Sudan

President Biden on Thursday signed an executive order expanding his authorities to impose sanctions on Sudan over the conflict that broke out between rival generals on April 15.

Forces loyal to Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Sudan’s army chief and de facto leader, have been fighting with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagal, known as Hemedti. The two military leaders have agreed to several ceasefires, but the fighting has not stopped.

In a statement, Biden said the conflict in Sudan “must end.” His order gives him sweeping authorities to sanction any person or entity the US determines is “involved in activities that threaten the peace, security, and stability of Sudan.”

The order said the “situation in Sudan, including the military’s seizure of power in October 2021 and the outbreak of inter-service fighting in April 2023, constitutes an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.”

Biden DOJ Indicts Four Americans For “Weaponized” Free Speech

Posted by M. C. on April 20, 2023

CAITLIN JOHNSTONE

Listen to a reading of this article (reading by Tim Foley):

Upgrade to paid

The Biden administration’s Department of Justice has just charged four members of the African People’s Socialist Party (APSP) for conspiring to act as agents of Russia by using speech and political action in ways the DOJ says “weaponized” the First Amendment rights of Americans.

The Washington Post reports:

Federal authorities charged four Americans on Tuesday with roles in a malign campaign pushing pro-Kremlin propaganda in Florida and Missouri — expanding a previous case that charged a Russian operative with running illegal influence agents within the United States.

The FBI signaled its interest in the alleged activities in a series of raids last summer, at which point authorities charged a Moscow man, Aleksandr Viktorovich Ionov, with working for years on behalf of Russian government officials to fund and direct fringe political groups in the United States. Among other things, Ionov allegedly advised the political campaigns of two unidentified candidates for public office in Florida.

Ionov’s influence efforts were allegedly directed and supervised by officers of the FSB, a Russian government intelligence service.

Now, authorities have added charges against four Americans who allegedly did Ionov’s bidding through groups including the African People’s Socialist Party and the Uhuru Movement in Florida, Black Hammer in Georgia, and an unidentified political group in California — part of an effort to influence American politics.

AFP reports that the conspiracy charges carry a sentence of up to ten years, with three of the four APSP members additionally charged with acting as unregistered agents of Russia which carries another five years.

“Russia’s foreign intelligence service allegedly weaponized our First Amendment rights – freedoms Russia denies its own citizens – to divide Americans and interfere in elections in the United States,” said Assistant Attorney General Matthew G. Olsen in the DOJ’s press release regarding the indictments, adding, “The department will not hesitate to expose and prosecute those who sow discord and corrupt U.S. elections in service of hostile foreign interests, regardless of whether the culprits are U.S. citizens or foreign individuals abroad.”

Looks like the United States has decided to dispense with those freedoms as well.

Dailywire Article-Don’t Let Biden’s All-Time Offensive Response To The Nashville Shooting Get Buried

US President Joe Biden speaks during the US Small Business Administration (SBA) Women's Business Summit in the East Room of the White House on Monday, March 27, 2023. Biden at the event again called on Congress to ban assault weapons and take other steps to address gun violence following another deadly school shooting, this time in Nashville, Tennessee.

The lapdog media will never give it the attention it deserves, but don’t let President Joe Biden’s all-time offensive response to the Covenant school shooting get buried amidst all the news.

During his first public appearance on Monday, news stations tuned into what they thought was going to be the commander-in-chief addressing the nation, commemorating the lives lost. Instead, for more than two minutes, the president rambled on about ice cream, his wife, “good-looking kids,” and his sister before getting to his remarks about the Nashville tragedy.

ABC News aired the remarks in full, showing the distasteful and tone-deaf comments at the beginning:

Fox News anchors seemed stunned that the president was yukking it up and quickly cut away from his remarks.

“John, we’ll jump back in here, uhm, considering the moment,” a shaken Martha MaCallum said in disbelief. “There’s a shooting that just happened, that left three children dead, three adults dead, and we were told that he would be addressing this off the top.”

“Yeah, it’s rather surprising, I thought that somber president would have come to the podium and would have addressed this school shooting,” her colleague said.

Biden Kills Senate Resolution To End Yemen Genocide

Posted by M. C. on December 14, 2022

It’s safe to say that in a nation which serves as the hub of an empire that’s held together with endless violence and the threat thereof, anyone who ascends to a certain level of power in any party is going to have to be a servant of mass military slaughter to some extent.

Caitlin Johnstone

https://open.substack.com/pub/caitlinjohnstone/p/biden-kills-senate-resolution-to?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android

Bernie Sanders has withdrawn his bill to end US support for the Saudi war on Yemen following reports that the Biden administration was working to tank the resolution, with White House aids reportedly saying they’d recommend the president veto it.

Antiwar’s Dave DeCamp reports:

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) on Tuesday night withdrew his request to vote on the Yemen War Powers Resolution that would end US support for the Saudi-led war and blockade on Yemen, citing White House opposition to the bill.

Sanders said on the Senate floor that he was informed ahead of the scheduled vote of the administration’s opposition to the legislation, meaning President Biden would veto the resolution. The Intercept reported earlier in the day that The White House was pressuring senators to vote against the bill, and Democrats came out in opposition to Sanders’ resolution earlier on Tuesday, including Sen. Alex Padilla (D-CA).

Sanders’ justification for not holding the vote was that the administration claimed it would work with Congress on ending the war in Yemen. He said the White House wanted to “work with us on crafting language that would be mutually acceptable” and insisted if that didn’t happen, he would resume his efforts to end the war through a resolution.

But even if the White House really wants to engage with Congress on the issue, or if Sanders chooses to reintroduce the resolution, the plan will take time, which Yemenis don’t have. There has been a cessation in violence in Yemen, with no Saudi airstrikes since March, but there has been a recent uptick in fighting on the ground.

It’s probably also worth noting that this administration has been consistently lying about its intentions to end this war, with Biden campaigning on the promise to bring peace to Yemen and make a “pariah” of Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, then turning around and keeping the war going while greeting the crown prince with a friendly fistbump ahead of a meeting where the two leaders coordinated their governments’ continued intimacy.

“Today, I withdrew from consideration by the U.S. Senate my War Powers Resolution after the Biden administration agreed to continue working with my office on ending the war in Yemen,” Sanders said on Twitter. “Let me be clear. If we do not reach agreement, I will, along with my colleagues, bring this resolution back for a vote in the near future and do everything possible to end this horrific conflict.”

“At which time the House, under GOP control, will block your efforts,” former congressman Justin Amash replied. “But you know that already. As does the Biden administration, which is why they don’t want you to pass this joint resolution now, when all the pressure is on the president, because his party currently controls.”

“What I’m acknowledging is that both Rs and Ds in government are addicted to war,” Amash added. “They’re playing a game. When Trump was president, everyone knew he wouldn’t sign a Yemen joint resolution, so it passed Congress. Biden has to pretend he’d sign it, so he needs Congress to block it.”

Trade war averted? Macron gets Biden to ‘tweak’ his industrial subsidies – POLITICO

Posted by M. C. on December 2, 2022

Foreign countries complain they don’t get enough US taxpayer money. Washington fixes that.

https://www.politico.eu/article/emmanuel-macron-joe-biden-us-france-lands-unexpected-concession-on-inflation-reduction-act/

BY CLEA CAULCUTT

French President Emmanuel Macron snatched an unexpected win from his U.S counterpart during a visit to Washington on Thursday, getting Joe Biden to suggest that European companies could benefit from a controversial American subsidies package.

Fury has been boiling over in Europe after it became clear that Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act — a $369 billion package for green industry — could drain investment out of the EU and into the U.S. Big car-making nations like France and Germany had complained that the U.S. law was potentially illegal for discriminating against foreign companies in the electric vehicle sector and encouraging consumers to “Buy American.”

Macron’s visit to the U.S. had been trailed as a doomed last-ditch effort to secure a truce over Washington’s largesse before the EU and U.S. would lurch into a subsidy race or full-blown trade war with countervailing tariffs.

Europeans have been pressing to receive the same rights as Mexicans and Canadians to benefit from the green cash bonanza, but with little prospect of success. For weeks, the French have been campaigning for European partners to agree to their own rival subsidy package, including a “Buy European” component.

‘Put America Last’: Biden Gives Chevron Greenlight To Start Pumping Oil In Venezuela Again

CARACAS, VENEZUELA - DECEMBER 08: Nicolas Maduro President of Venezuela speaks to the media to give a balance of the recent Parliamentary elections during a press conference at Palacio de Miraflores on December 8, 2020 in Caracas, Venezuela. On sunday 6th Venezuelans voted for the Parliamentary Elections with a 31% turnout and 68.4% of the votes for the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) according to the National Electoral Council.

Democrat President Joe Biden faced backlash over the weekend after his administration announced it would allow Chevron to resume pumping oil in socialist Venezuela.

The move from the leftist Biden administration reversed restrictions that the Trump administration had put on companies in an effort to oust socialist dictator Nicolás Maduro.

“On November 26th, the Unitary Platform and the Maduro regime announced the resumption of talks in Mexico City; a humanitarian agreement focused on education, health, food security, flood response, and electricity programs that will benefit the Venezuelan people; and agreement on the continuation of talks focused on the 2024 elections,” the Treasury Department said in a statement. “Following this announcement and consistent with U.S. government policy, the Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) issued Venezuela General License (GL) 41, authorizing Chevron Corporation to resume limited natural resource extraction operations in Venezuela.”

The statement said that the move by the administration to “provide targeted sanctions relief” was based on the Venezuelan government’s recent actions to help its people and “support the restoration of democracy.”

The sanctions relief that the administration is providing to Venezuela will last six months, at which point it could be revoked or amended.
