Dems Change Mind On Border Wall After Realizing It Will Keep People From Leaving When We Switch To Socialism

U.S.—The nation’s Democratic leaders announced Tuesday they are reversing course on Trump’s proposed border wall, since “it will keep people in once we switch to socialism.”

“We thought the border wall was a bad, racist idea,” said Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. “But then this light bulb turned on over my head. It was actually just a light bulb though, not an actual idea, which was disappointing. But that got me thinking about trying to have an idea. And I got an idea: when we switch to socialism, everyone’s gonna try to run away. But what if there’s a big, solid object along the border? Then they can’t run away. I mean, they could try to climb, but we could shoot them.”

Senator Bernie Sanders said in his experience, walls are “absolutely necessary” to keep a socialist country’s citizens from fleeing. “The Soviets had it right: big wall in Berlin, the symbolic Iron Curtain, shooting people who try to flee. It’s all necessary to a healthy socialist state.” Besides, Sanders added, politicians like him would be exempt from the “no running away” rule and he could fly out any time he wanted on a government plane.

Dems suggested maybe the border wall could use some upgrades such as landmines on the U.S. side, outposts with guards armed with AK-47s, and attack dogs. It will also need to be extended to surround the entire country and “maybe also a big dome around the top.”

US Military Spending Bill Fails in Senate With Dispute Over Border Wall – News From Antiwar.com

Posted by M. C. on November 1, 2019

And now for something completely different.

We need more gridlock.

https://news.antiwar.com/2019/10/31/us-military-spending-bill-fails-in-senate-with-dispute-over-border-wall/

A bundle of spending bills including the US military, Department of Labor, and Health and Human Services failed in the Senate on Thursday, with a procedural vote that needed 60 votes ending up 51-41.

The votes are heavily a political issue surrounding attempts to shift some of the military budget into building a border wall at Mexico, a top Trump priority. The bills only got through the Appropriations Committee on a vote entirely along party lines.

When it got to the Senate floor, Republicans were banking on accusing the Democrats of not supporting the military. This failed, with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) saying that they’re trying to stop the Republicans from “stealing money from our military and putting it into the wall.”

With almost no Democrat support, there was no way the Senate was getting to 60 votes. There had been closed door talks on how to move ahead on this issue with the border wall hanging over everyone’s head.

To make matters even more complicated, there has been protracted fighting on reconciling the bill between the House, where the Democrats are in control, and the Senate. This is something they’ve struggled with for some time, with President Trump angrily condemning the Congressional Democrats as “failing” in not giving him the money for his wall.

That they ended up stopping the talks, and having a vote that was likely to fail, reflects how little idea anyone has on how to sort this out. Instead, Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) and other committee leaders were counting on saying that military spending “should come first” as excuse enough to push the bill through. But it just wasn’t, and with time running out they may have to accept another continuing resolution to punt the matter into early 2020.

Can Trump Stop the Invasion? – LewRockwell

Posted by M. C. on March 10, 2019

With 328 million people here now, approaching twice the number as in 1960, how many more can we take in before government sinks under the weight of its beneficiaries?

And there is a larger issue.

If, as appears probable, President Trump is not going to be able to build his wall and all the security measures taken in this century have proved inadequate to stanch the invasion of America, how does the invasion end?

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2019/03/patrick-j-buchanan/can-trump-stop-the-invasion/

In its lead editorial Wednesday, The New York Times called upon Congress to amend the National Emergency Act to “erect a wall against any President, not just Mr. Trump, who insists on creating emergencies where none exist.”

Trump “took advantage” of a “loophole” in the NEA, said The Times, to declare “a crisis at the border, contrary to all evidence.”

The Times news desk, however, apparently failed to alert the editorial page on what the top story would be that day.

“Record Numbers Crossing to U.S., Deluging Agents” was the page-one headline. The Times quoted Kevin K. McAleenan, commissioner of Customs and Border Protection: “The system is well beyond capacity, and remains at the breaking point. … This is … a border security and a humanitarian crisis.”

Reporter Caitlin Dickerson explained what is behind CPB’s alarm: “The number of migrant families crossing the Southwest border has once again broken records, with unauthorized entries nearly double what they were a year ago.”

She continued, “More than 76,000 migrants crossed the border without authorization in February, an 11-year high … newcomers continue to arrive, sometimes by the busload, at the rate of 2,200 a day.”

Only if one believes in open borders is this not an emergency, not a crisis. Consider the budgetary impact alone of this invasion. Read the rest of this entry »
