California as the Boss of Us – EPautos – Libertarian Car Talk

Bad enough that we’re ordered about by the government in Washington. But what about this business of being ordered about by the government of California?

Its befehlshaber (that’s German for order-giver) Jerry Brown just ordered the tripling – the almost quadrupling – of the of the number of electric cars which must be on the state’s roads by 2025.

Instead of a ludicrous 1.5 million of them, it must be a preposterous 4.5 million.

But what has this to do with the rest of the country?

Unfortunately, a lot… Read the rest of this entry »

Republicans Save EV Subsidy . . . And in Other News, it Will Get Dark Tonight – EPautos – Libertarian Car Talk

The IC engine as metaphor for freedom and liberty.

The same Republicans who worked overtime to make sure Obamacare wasn’t repealed – or even “replaced” – have done as expected and made sure the $7,500 subsidy for the purchase of electric cars remains in place.

These Republicans are Senate Republicans – the worst Republicans of all.

House Republicans are no great shakes – all politicians are by nature grifters – but a few of them come to Washington still slightly wet behind the ears, a degree naive  . . . in the sense that they suffer a few occasional and temporary pangs of trying to do the right thing. They are like newly created vampires who – for a brief time – are somewhat restrained by their fading memory of being human. Read the rest of this entry »

Coal-Fueled Cars? – LewRockwell

Posted by M. C. on October 13, 2017

You really have to work at ignoring the elephant in this room.

Not only would we have to burn more coal or build more nuclear power generating plants, we would have to upgrade the existing electrical distribution system (the grid) to service all the additional electric load that the EVs would require.

When everyone thinks the same, no one is thinking-General Patton

Several countries are making proclamations that state all new cars shall be electric by a certain date.  Who decided on electric cars?  I know they sound “clean” but where does that electricity come from? Read the rest of this entry »

Another Reason for the Electric Car Push? – EPautos – Libertarian Car Talk

Posted by M. C. on September 16, 2017

https://www.ericpetersautos.com/2017/09/15/another-reason-electric-car-push/

Electric cars are being pushed for all kinds of reasons, none of them beneficial to us. If that weren’t the case, then it wouldn’t be necessary to push (mandate, subsidize) electric cars. They would be embraced as naturally – as freely – as a better smartphone or more-delicious (and cheaper) hamburger.
Amen! That is the way the market is supposed to work.

They are very expensive. The least pricey ones like the Nissan Leaf sticker around $30,000 to start. The majority are closer to $40,000 – including the new “affordable” Tesla. And that’s with all the subsidies; take them away and the true cost – the actual cost  – of electric cars is much, much higher.

Be seeing you
