Secret F.B.I. Subpoenas Scoop Up Personal Data From Scores of Companies

ENM NEWS

The F.B.I. has used secret subpoenas to obtain personal data from far more companies than previously disclosed, newly released documents show.

The requests, which the F.B.I. says are critical to its counterterrorism efforts, have raised privacy concerns for years but have been associated mainly with tech companies. Now, records show how far beyond Silicon Valley the practice extends — encompassing scores of banks, credit agencies, cellphone carriers and even universities.

The demands can scoop up a variety of information, including usernames, locations, IP addresses and records of purchases. They don’t require a judge’s approval and usually come with a gag order, leaving them shrouded in secrecy. Fewer than 20 entities, most of them tech companies, have ever revealed that they’ve received the subpoenas, known as national security letters.

The documents, obtained by the Electronic Frontier Foundation through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit and shared with The New York Times, shed light on the scope of the demands — more than 120 companies and other entities were included in the filing — and raise questions about the effectiveness of a 2015 law that was intended to increase transparency around them.

“This is a pretty potent authority for the government,” said Stephen Vladeck, a law professor at the University of Texas who specializes in national security. “The question is: Do we have a right to know when the government is collecting information on us?”

The documents provide information on about 750 of the subpoenas — representing a small but telling fraction of the half-million issued since 2001, when the Patriot Act expanded their powers.

The credit agencies Equifax, Experian and TransUnion received a large number of the letters in the filing. So did financial institutions like Bank of America, Western Union and even the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. All declined to explain how they handle the letters. An array of other entities received smaller numbers of requests — including Kansas State University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, probably because of their role in providing internet service.

Other companies included major cellular providers such as AT&T and Verizon, as well as tech giants like Google and Facebook, which have acknowledged receiving the letters in the past.

Albert Gidari, a lawyer who long represented tech and telecommunications companies and is now the privacy director at Stanford’s Center for Internet and Society, said Silicon Valley had been associated with the subpoenas because it was more willing than other industries to fight the gag orders. “Telecoms and financial institutions get little attention,” he said, even though the law specifically says they are fair game.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation determined that information on the roughly 750 letters could be disclosed under a 2015 law, the USA Freedom Act, that requires the government to review the secrecy orders “at appropriate intervals.”

The Justice Department’s interpretation of those instructions has left many letters secret indefinitely. Department guidelines say the gag orders must be evaluated three years after an investigation starts and also when an investigation is closed. But a federal judge noted “several large loopholes,” suggesting that “a large swath” of gag orders might never be reviewed.

According to the new documents, the F.B.I. evaluated 11,874 orders between early 2016, when the rules went into effect, and September 2017, when the Electronic Frontier Foundation, a digital rights group, requested the information.

“We are not sure the F.B.I. is taking its obligations under USA Freedom seriously,” said Andrew Crocker, a lawyer with the foundation. “There still is a huge problem with permanent gag orders.”…

Declassified U.S. Government Documents Claim The West Supported The Creation of ISIS – Collective Evolution

Posted by M. C. on June 20, 2019

And Gabbard herself was quoted as saying that the “CIA has also been funneling weapons and money through Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Qatar and others who provide direct and indirect support to groups like ISIS and al-Qaeda. This support has allowed al-Qaeda and their fellow terrorist organizations to establish strongholds throughout Syria, including in Aleppo.” (source)

https://www.collective-evolution.com/2019/06/19/declassified-u-s-government-documents-claim-the-west-supported-the-creation-of-isis/

In Brief

  • The Facts:Documents obtained through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) as a result of an inquiry made by Judicial Watch show the close connection between the U.S. government and terrorist organizations like ISIS.
  • Reflect On:How is this idea still toted as a “conspiracy theory” within the mainstream? Why is the mountain of evidence and witness testimony on this issue never acknowledged? Why do we believe our troops are fighting for our freedom? Is this just propaganda?

The amount of evidence and information in the form of declassified documents, witness testimony, and much more that has leaked out over the past decade alone regarding this topic is overwhelming to say the least. It’s one of the best examples, if not the best example in existence today of how, even if there is significant evidence in support of the truth, most people are completely oblivious to this evidence and accept another narrative given to us by the powerful elite. It really goes to show how mainstream media controls the perception of so many people, so much so that even if one is presented with an alternative view to this narrative, even if there is evidence supporting it, it’s almost instantaneously dismissed and ridiculed.

This is what happens frequently when suggesting that major terrorist organizations are supported and even created by the western military alliance. If this is true, it means that the ‘powers that be’ are creating attacks as well as staging and encouraging certain events in order to justify military action and foreign intervention.

This idea completely shatters the current western political identity, which is one full of pride and the idea that it’s a necessity to have a big, strong military. This thought is encouraged by massive amounts of propaganda, public holidays and days of remembrance, which are used to further pump the populace full of false ideologies. This is why we see major sporting events used to commemorate military events, or the idea that soldiers are and have ‘fought and died for our country.’  The idea that soldiers are fighting, dying, and sacrificing their lives for the freedom of others is a widespread belief in North America.

Could the statement below from  Robin Cook, Former British Foreign Secretary, be true?

“The truth is, there is no Islamic army or terrorist group called Al-Qaeda, and any informed intelligence officer knows this. But, there is a propaganda campaign to make the public believe in the presence of an intensified entity representing the ‘devil’ only in order to drive TV watchers to accept a unified international leadership for a war against terrorism. The country behind this propaganda is the United States.” (source)

Again, there are multiple pieces of evidence in support of this narrative. I recently wrote about Riam Dalati, a well known BBC Syria producer that’s been reporting from that region for a long time. He shocked his nearly 20,000 Twitter followers a few days ago as well as other mainstream media journalists from major outlets like the BBC, when he concluded after a “six month investigation” that he “can prove without a doubt that the Douma Hospital scene was staged.”…

In this article, I want to draw your attention to a nonprofit organization called Judicial Watch. They are an “American conservative” activist group that files Freedom of Information Act lawsuits to investigate claimed misconduct by government officials. They are the type of group that’s currently experiencing tremendous amount of internet censorship. The company was founded by activist lawyer and former U.S. Justice Department prosecutor Larry Klayman. For many years, they’ve obtained sensitive U.S. government documents through Freedom of Information requests and lawsuits.

Not long ago, the U.S. government produced documents to Judicial Watch as a result of a Freedom of Information suit that showed the West has long supported ISIS. The documents were written by the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency in August of 2012, well before ISIS became a household name and made headlines on the world stage.

The below screenshot shows that extreme Muslim terrorists – salafists, Muslims Brotherhood, and AQI (i.e. Al Qaeda in Iraq) – have always been the “major forces driving the insurgency in Syria.”

This verifies what the alternative media has been saying for years: there aren’t any moderate rebels in Syria.

The document goes on to state:

… there is the possibility of establishing a declared or undeclared Salafist Principality in eastern Syria (Hasaka and Der Zor), and this is exactly what the supporting powers to the opposition want, in order to isolate the Syrian regime …

This shows how the powers that were supporting the Syrian opposition–the Western military alliance and their allies in the middle east–wanted an Islamic caliphate in order to challenge Syrian president Assad.

This type of activity is so well known that a few years ago, current presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard introduced the Stop Arming Terrorists Act, the terms of which her website outlines succinctly: “The legislation would prohibit the U.S. government from using American taxpayer dollars to provide funding, weapons, training, and intelligence support to groups like the Levant Front, Fursan al Ha and other allies of Jabhat Fateh al-Sham, al-Qaeda and ISIS, or to countries who are providing direct or indirect support to those same groups.”…

Another great quote I like to use when writing about this subject:

We are dealing with a criminal undertaking at a global level … and there is an ongoing war, it is led by the United States, it may be carried out by a number of proxy countries, which are obeying orders from Washington … The global war on terrorism is a US undertaking, which is fake, it’s based on fake premises. It tells us that somehow America and the Western world are going after a fictitious enemy, the Islamic state, when in fact the Islamic state is fully supported and financed by the Western military alliance and America’s allies in the Persian Gulf. – Canadian economist Dr. Michel Chossudovsky, The University of Ottawa’s Emeritus Professor of Economics, spoken at the International Conference on the New World Order, which was organized and sponsored by the Perdana Global Peace Foundation. (source)

The Takeaway

Why doesn’t the mainstream media touch this topic? Why is it so hard for people to believe that our governments and the western military alliance are funding, creating and carrying out events that are blamed on supposed terrorist organizations, even when there is so much evidence supporting this?

Imagine if the global population found out that this was true? That would mean that soldiers are not dying and fighting for our freedom, and that all of this war and conflict was simply created for ulterior motives. What would happen to patriotism?

The Latest Debacle Proves the Need for a Sweeping FBI Investigation – The Future of Freedom Foundation

Posted by M. C. on December 11, 2018

The IG report gives the impression that the FBI treated Hillary Clinton and her coterie like royalty — or at least like personages deserving endless deference. When Bleachbit software or hammers were used to destroy email evidence under congressional subpoena, the FBI treated it as a harmless error.

by

The reputation of the Federal Bureau of Investigation took another pummeling in June, when the Department of Justice Inspector General released a damning report on the FBI’s investigation of Hillary Clinton’s squirrely email server. Americans learned that the FBI had done backflips to exonerate Clinton and that a top FBI official had openly promised to “stop” Donald Trump from becoming president. The IG report proves that it is time for a sweeping independent investigation of the FBI’s abuses of Americans’ rights and liberties.

The FBI’s investigation of Clinton was spurred by her decision to set up a private server to handle her email during her four years as Secretary of State. The server in a bathroom of her Chappaqua, New York, mansion was insecure and exposed emails with classified information to detection by foreign sources and others.

Clinton effectively exempted herself from the federal Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The State Department simply ignored 17 pre-2014 FOIA requests for Clinton’s emails. State delayed for more than five years answering a simple request from the Associated Press for Clinton’s schedules and meetings. The agency insisted that it would require 75 years to disclose emails of Hillary’s top aides. A federal judge and the agency’s Inspector General slammed the FOIA stonewalling and foot-dragging. Fitton: The ATF Is Still Hiding the Truth About Obama’s Anti-Gun Agenda

Posted by M. C. on October 12, 2018

Simply put, the ATF refuses to comply with federal open records law. The ATF has withheld records for over three years concerning the Obama administration’s shady attempt to institute gun control by restricting ammunition instead of guns.

The Obama administration excelled at pushing its radical agenda through any means necessary. Since its gun-control agenda was not going anywhere, it decided to control ammunition, which would have had the same effect.

Everyone with an appreciation of the Second Amendment saw right through it.

Late last month, we filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), a component of the Department of Justice, for 1,900 pages of records about a proposed reclassification that would effectively ban certain types of AR-15 ammunition as armor-piercing (Judicial Watch v. U.S. Department of Justice (No. 1:18-cv-02218)).

We sued after the agency failed to respond to our May 14, 2018, FOIA request for the 1,900 documents about the Obama administration’s AR-15 ammo ban efforts. The documents include ATF talking points about the “Armor Piercing Ammunition Notice of Proposed Rulemaking” and other records discussing ammunition classification.

This lawsuit is the latest development in our more than three-year effort to obtain documents from the ATF. Judicial Watch discovered the document cache in separate litigation on the ammo ban issue.

Here’s some background:
