There is a reason why the Chinese are building islands away from the mainland. Lumbering behemoths with ever decreasing range, massively under-performing F-35s have to get closer to targets.

“The better to blast you with my carrier killer cruise missiles my dear.”

It is quite likely the US will lose a carrier or two if we tangle with China. More if we keep antagonizing countries like China, Russia and Iran causing them to share resources.
