‘Flying taxi’ gets $100 million from Toyota and Intel | Daily Mail Online

Posted by Martin C. Fox on February 3, 2018

A great idea. What could go wrong? Government interference and taxicab cronies.

The government’s Osprey hasn’t fared so well.  The government won’t keep its nose out of this. Do you think the taxicab cartel will receive this with open arms? $200K for a flying taxi is cheap by half compared to a NYC taxi medallion.

Developing and building the flying cab will be the easy part.

We should get the Russians involved. Russians are to helicopters what the Germans were to rockets.

Is this the flying taxi of the future? Electric 200mph 16-rotor ‘megadrone’ that can transform into a plane mid-air gets $100 million backing from Toyota and Intel.

  • Joby S2 takes off like a helicopter, but once airborne its 12 propellers fold up so it can glide like a plane
  • The aircraft has 16 electric propellers, 12 of which are designed for vertical take-off and landing (VTOL)
  • Joby S2 requires five times less energy and travels five times faster than traditional auto transportation
  • Joby Aviation believes it will cost $200,000 to make each aircraft and due to its fully electric operation, running costs should be a fraction of what a typical helicopter requires
