A Discrimination Lesson – LewRockwell

If discriminating against someone is always bad—which is what we are constantly told—then how can someone be celebrated for vowing to discriminate against people on the basis of sex while someone else is condemned for allegedly discriminating against someone on the basis of religion?

At the Golden Globes award ceremony last month, actress Regina King accepted her award for best supporting actress and then gave a customary short speech in which she vowed:

Time’s Up, times two … In the next two years, everything that I produce, I am making a vow, and it’s going to be tough, to make sure that everything that I produce, that it’s 50 percent women, and I just challenge anyone out there who is in a position of power … I challenge you to challenge yourselves and … do the same.

King’s vow to discriminate against men “brought women in the room to their feet clapping and was also getting enthusiastic responses on Twitter.”

A family was recently removed from an American Airlines flight before takeoff from Miami International Airport because they allegedly had offensive body odor. According to a statement from the airline:

The Adler family were asked to deplane last night after several passengers, along with our crew members, complained about their body odor. The family were provided hotel accommodations and meals, and re-booked on a flight to Detroit today.

But Yossi Adler accused the airline of singling out his family because they’re Jewish. He taped his argument with the ground crew on his cell phone. He can be heard saying: “There’s a religious reason for some reason that they’re kicking me off the plane. We don’t have odor, OK? Nobody here has odor.” A ground crew member can then be heard asking: “Now you told me for religious reasons you don’t shower, is that what you said?” To which Mr. Adler responded: “No I didn’t! I shower every day. I said you kicked me off because of religious reasons.”

Time for a discrimination lesson.

But first, two comments.

Regarding the discrimination based on sex, if the actor who received the Golden Globe award was male and said that he was making a vow to have 50 percent men in everything he produces he would be denounced as a discriminator and a sexist.

Regarding the discrimination based on religion, I think it is ludicrous to believe that American Airlines kicked a family off a plane because they were Jewish. How many employees of American Airlines are Jewish? How many Jews have flown on American Airlines over the years? How many Jews fly out of New York on American Airlines every day?

Now for the lesson.

Confusion about discrimination abounds. Read the rest of this entry »

If there is any justice, the firing of its founder should to launch the collapse and liquidation of the Southern Poverty Law Center

Few private organizations can match the Southern Poverty Law Center when it comes to hypocrisy and malign influence, though Media Matters for America might be close. In a development shocking only to its leftist true believers, the founder and most prominent public face of the group, Morris Dees, was fired for unspecified reasons. The Montgomery Advertiser, the home town paper where it is located, reported:

SPLC President Richard Cohen said in a statement Dees’ dismissal over his misconduct was effective on Wednesday, March 13. When pressed for details on what led to the termination, the organization declined to elaborate.

“As a civil rights organization, the SPLC is committed to ensuring that the conduct of our staff reflects the mission of the organization and the values we hope to instill in the world,” Cohen said in the emailed statement. “When one of our own fails to meet those standards, no matter his or her role in the organization, we take it seriously and must take appropriate action.”

Dees, 82, co-founded the Montgomery-based organization in 1971.

“It was not my decision, what they did,” Dees said when reached by phone. “I wish the center the absolute best. Whatever reasons they had of theirs, I don’t know.”

Instead of any transparency and accountability, the most the SPLC would even hint at was:

Dees’ termination is one of several steps taken by the organization this week, Cohen said.

“Today we announced a number of immediate, concrete next steps we’re taking, including bringing in an outside organization to conduct a comprehensive assessment of our internal climate and workplace practices, to ensure that our talented staff is working in the environment that they deserve — one in which all voices are heard and all staff members are respected,” Cohen said.

This implies sexism or racism, quite possibly sexual harassment, but is tantalizingly vague. But The Advertiser long has highlighted related issues:

A 1994 Montgomery Advertiser series provided a deep look into the organization controlled by the multimillionaire Dees, illustrating his near-singular control over the organization and its mammoth budget.

The series, a Pulitzer Prize finalist, revealed a figure seen as heroic by some and single-minded by others. Dees’ critics said he was more concerned with fundraising than litigating.

The series also alleged discriminatory treatment of black employees within the advocacy group, despite its outward efforts to improve the treatment of minorities in the country. Staffers at the time “accused Morris Dees, the center’s driving force, of being a racist and black employees have ‘felt threatened and banded together.’” The organization denied the accusations raised in the series.

But these issues are merely the tip of the iceberg when it comes to hypocrisy and outright evil perpetrated by the SPLC, whose half billion dollars ought to be liquated and applied the alleviation of Southern Poverty, about which it has done little.  Longtime readers of American Thinker know that we have published literally scores of articles and blogs on that organization’s descent from a long-ago legitimate opponent of real racists into an anti-conservative attack dog, identifying anyone whose agenda opposes theirs as racists. Along the way, it has milked donors and become incredibly rich (over half a billion dollars in assets, $121 million of it parked overseas). It has also sparked appalling hate crimes – including a mass assassination attempt on a completely nonviolent/non-racist think tank, the Family Research Council, that it put on its notorious “hate map.”..

The IRS reportedly is investigating a complaint about its abuse of its tax-exempt status.

Despite all these scandals, the SPLC continues to enjoy the favor of the corporate and media establishments, with Google donating a quarter million and many big media outlets relying on its phony designations of hate groups.

So, maybe Dees was fired for sexual or racial infractions, but my strong suspicion is that control of the half billion dollars in assets is the real issue. A pot of money that big attracts a lot of devious people, and it would seem that a lot of devious peeple have found a home over the years at the SPLC.

The long history of US-Russian ‘meddling’ (by Stephen Cohen) — RT Op-ed

Posted by M. C. on March 17, 2019

https://www.rt.com/op-ed/453267-russiagate-meddling-us-collusion/

by Stephen Cohen

The two governments have repeatedly interfered in each other’s domestic politics during the past 100 years – and it’s not all bad.

Even though the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee found “no direct evidence of a conspiracy between the Trump campaign and Russia,” Russiagate allegations of “collusion” between candidate and then President Donald Trump and the Kremlin have poisoned American politics for nearly three years.  They are likely to continue to do so for the foreseeable future, and due not only to the current subpoena-happy Democratic chairs of House “investigative” committees.

At the core of the Russiagate narrative is the allegation that the Kremlin “meddled” in the 2016 US presidential election. The word “meddle” is nebulous and could mean most anything, but Russiagate zealots deploy it in the most ominous ways, as a war-like “attack on America,” a kind of “Pearl Harbor.” They also imply that such meddling is unprecedented when in fact both the United States and Russia have interfered repeatedly in the other’s internal politics, in one way or another, certainly since the 1917 Russian Revolution.

For context, recall that such meddling is an integral part of Cold War and that there have been three Cold Wars between America and Russia during the past one hundred years. The first was from 1917 to 1933, when Washington did not even formally recognize the new Soviet government in Moscow. The second is, of course, the best known, the forty-year Cold War from about 1948 to 1988, when the US and Soviet leaders, Ronald Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev, declared it over. And then, by my reckoning, the new, ongoing Cold War began in the late 1990s, when the Clinton administration initiated the expansion of NATO towards Russia’s borders and bombed Moscow’s longtime Slav and political ally Serbia.

That’s approximately eighty-five years of US-Russian Cold War in a hundred years of relations and, not surprisingly, a lot of meddling on both sides, even leaving aside espionage and spies. The meddling has taken various forms….

Presstitutes Turn Blind Eye to UN Report on Venezuela – PaulCraigRoberts.org

Paul Craig Roberts.

Washington and the Convict Appointed to Overthrow Venezuela Continue the Lies

Don’t you think something is fishy when the presstitutes orchestrate a fake news “humanitarian crisis” in Venezuela, but totally ignore the real humanitarian crises in Yemen and Gaza?

Don’t you think something is really very rotten when the expert, Alfred Maurice de Zayas,  sent by the UN to Venezuela to evaluate the situation finds no interest by any Western media or any Western government in his report?

Don’t you think it is a bit much for Washington to steal $21 billion of Venezuela’s money, impose sanctions in an effort to destabilize the country and to drive the Venezuelan government to its knees, blame Venezuelan socialism (essentially nationalization of the oil company) for bringing “starvation to the people,” and offer a measly $21 million in “humanitarian aid.”

As the United States is completely devoid of any print or TV media, it falls upon internet media such as this website to perform the missing function of honest journalism.

As for the alleged starvation and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, Zayas has this to say:…

Yes, Democrats DID start the Ku Klux Klan (and it’s still the party of racism) | The Daily Bell

Posted by M. C. on March 17, 2019

https://www.thedailybell.com/all-articles/news-analysis/yes-democrats-did-start-the-ku-klux-klan-and-its-still-the-party-of-racism/

By Joe Jarvis

I don’t want people to think better of Republicans.

I want people to be as critical of Democrats as they are of Republicans.

Both parties are really terrible. But the Democrats too often get a pass because they are better at branding and marketing.

The last time a Republican Presidential candidate got more than 15% of the black vote was 1960.

And yet the Democrats had a former KKK member in the US Senate until he died in 2010. In fact, Robert Byrd wasn’t just in the KKK, he recruited 150 friends to start a chapter!

Robert Byrd used the N-word on live television in 2001. And then was re-elected as the Senator from West Virginia in 2006.

Compare that to the current Democrat Governor from one state over, Virginia. Ralph Northam dressed in blackface when he was 25 (or KKK robes we don’t know which) as pictured in his graduate school yearbook.

This guy is a clown. His defense was that he doesn’t think he is either one of the two in the racist picture, because he distinctly remembers wearing blackface on a different occasion.

That time, he says, he only applied a little bit of shoe polish to dress as Michael Jackson, because that stuff is hard to get off…

I wonder how he knew it was hard to get shoe polish off his face?

(Also, his wife had to tell him it was inappropriate to do the moonwalk during his blackface apology news conference:

But I digress.)

As you can see, racism in the Democratic Party runs deep.

And this shouldn’t surprise anyone who has any knowledge of history.

But since most people get their information from memes these days, someone took it upon themselves to educate the masses.

A bunch of Democrats wore white to Trump’s State of the Union address to protest Trump or something, I don’t know.

Which gave birth to the following meme:

The Blind Leading the Deaf and Dumb – Kunstler

Posted by M. C. on March 17, 2019

All the actual evidence in the public arena indicates that any “collusion” to interfere with the 2016 election involved agents of the Clinton campaign and US government employees, not Russians.

…as Mencken quipped, like a blind man stumbling around a dark cellar looking for a black cat that isn’t there…

You had to wonder why it took Nancy Pelosi so long to figure out that maybe impeachment was not the big rock-candy mountain that, for “the resistance,” marked the gateway to a Trump-free nirvana. It became obvious this week, through the release of the Bruce Ohr and Lisa Page transcripts, that RussiaGate was birthed entirely by persons in the employ of Hillary Clintion, with then CIA Director John Brennan as midwife, and the DOJ / FBI avidly assisting — all of them fully aware that the predicate was false. What’s more, the evidence timeline makes it clear that Democratic Party leadership, including Nancy Pelosi, knew it was false. Hence, the pained smile she’s been wearing these many months.

In the event of an impeachment proceeding in the House, all that would be revealed, especially if it got as far as a trial in the US Senate, where the defense is allowed to mount a case under rules of evidence. Imagine the howls of embarrassment on late-night TV when even ex-comedian Stephen Colbert would have to admit that he was gulled into acting as a shill for a seditious con. 5 Reasons We’re In This Mess – The Burning Platform

Posted by M. C. on March 17, 2019

The premise is simple; there are those who want the heritage America of the past and those who want another country altogether.

Anyone who still believes in the power of the vote to reconcile our differences has not been paying attention.

https://www.theburningplatform.com/2019/03/14/5-reasons-were-in-this-mess/

Guest Post by Hardscrabble Farmer

A lot of virtual ink has been spilled in the past couple of years trying to home in on the source of our discontent. In the past half century or so we’ve experienced quite a few disruptions to the system, exposing deep rifts that were plastered over more than a few times in the past. America is nothing if not the land of skeletons in closets and the more that people are told what they may or may not consider by their betters, the more threadbare the excuses become. Everything has a reckoning, it is the immutable force of creation that established the physics of all things. Every action and all that jazz.

We are in the midst of a very, very dangerous time. Anyone who still believes in the power of the vote to reconcile our differences has not been paying attention. The time for campaigning things away has come and gone and there will never- until this conflict settles matters in flesh and blood- be a coming together of one side with the other. It is purposeless at this point to reason with one another, sides have been clearly drawn and like a family dispute, everyone knows where everyone else stands on the matter.

The premise is simple; there are those who want the heritage America of the past and those who want another country altogether. Those aren’t views that can be reconciled and both sides are convinced that they hold the moral high ground. The conflict has a neo-theological feel to it. It has become a religion to many, the righting of historical wrongs on people living in the present and the only solution is final. There is no compromise with someone who wants you gone.

What most of us do not consider, however, is that all of this, every epic meltdown and scandalous exposure is all a part and parcel of a perfectly natural cycle that has been going on for as long as mankind has existed. It’s what we do. Maybe, if we begin to look at it from that perspective instead of taking it personally, we’ll be able to keep the wheels from falling off of our personal lives, even if everyone else loses theirs.

1) Conflict is why we’re successful as a species. Human beings are soft.

Mass Shootings at Mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand

Posted by M. C. on March 15, 2019

A sad event, rarely reported in other circumstances.

Reader comments…Taking the words out of my mouth.

Christianity?…What?…oh that.

Joel B. Pollak and Joshua Caplan

At least 49 people have been killed and 40 wounded in mass shootings at two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. Four people are in custody in connection to the shootings, police confirm.

Where was the outrage and 24/7 CNN coverage when Christian churches in the Middle East were attacked and people murdered?

    This story exploded.
When Muslims get gunned down, news outlets JUMP at it.
When the Muslims are ‘grooming’ 9 year olds though, media blackout.

There’s a lot of bleeding heart liberals on this thread. They don’t shed any tears when Christains are burned alive in cages by muslims though. They don’t care about all the underage British girls that are kidnapped and turned into sex slaves by muslim immigrants.

  • Avatar

oh booey-hoo. every time a muslim kidnaps, rapes, murders, beheads, or incinerates a european we have to hear about how not all muslims are like that and how the poor babies are living in fear that someone will retaliate. now someone retaliated and we have to hear about how all white people are bad and the poor babies are still living in fear. give me a break.

Film uses wartime footage of Marines that isn’t necessarily flattering

Posted by M. C. on March 15, 2019

The military screws a lot of people up. In this case maybe it is the 25 years of cancer laden water at Paris Island.

The military doesn’t care about anyone. Certainly not their own.

https://www.stripes.com/news/us/film-uses-wartime-footage-of-marines-that-isn-t-necessarily-flattering-1.572698

By ALEX HORTON

Marines pass a joint to one another in the dark void of southern Afghanistan, and in crackling night-vision green, the question arises: Did they think they would ever be stoned within range of enemy fire?

The grunts take a moment to contemplate the infinite chasm between what the military wants you to believe happens in war and what unfolds in just another night in combat.

“You think the Marine Corps is a bunch of perfect people who don’t do anything bad, don’t curse, and they’re just really squared-away killers,” one man says to another. “The Marine Corps is filled with the most f—– up individuals I’ve ever met.”

He takes a drag. “Just like me, you know?”…

In one scene, a Marine huffs hash smoke out of a Pringles-can bong in a flash of ingenuity. In another, a grunt brandishes a pistol at four children riding donkeys so he can search them, roaring that he’s looking for the Taliban. Then he smiles. “I’m just kidding, here, chocolate,” the Marine jokes…. Read the rest of this entry »
