A Secret War in the Making: Americans Should Not Die to Defend Taiwan | AIER
Posted by M. C. on January 10, 2023
Most members of the Washington foreign policy elite have never met a war they didn’t want other Americans to fight. Policymakers managed to blunder through Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya without wrecking the US. A war against China over Taiwan could have far more destructive consequences.
https://www.aier.org/article/a-secret-war-in-the-making-americans-should-not-die-to-defend-taiwan/

The United States might be a democracy in form, but most policies are developed without even a semblance of public participation. For instance, policymakers overwhelmingly believe that the US should go to war with the People’s Republic of China if it attacks Taiwan. President Biden has five times declared that he would back Taiwan militarily. Yet Congress has not voted.
Those predicting conflict believe the hour is late, but some imagine that a tough stance would preclude war. America’s president merely needs to wave his pinky finger, or state his demands, and Chinese Communist Party officials would run screaming back to the leadership compound of Zhongnanhai, never to be heard from again. General Secretary Xi Jinping is, however, made of sterner stuff, buttressed by the People’s Liberation Army, which is rapidly expanding to prevent Washington from treating the Asia-Pacific as coastal American waters.
Even so, many Blob members assume that if Beijing were foolish enough to fight, it would (of course) be defeated. Not so. Any war over Taiwan would be won on the seas, and the PRC is much closer and can more easily reinforce its forces. Breaking a naval blockade would be difficult and would invite full-scale conflict. Beijing now possesses a larger (based on numbers, not tonnage) navy than America. And China is able to concentrate its forces in the Asia-Pacific. Reported the Congressional Research Service: “China’s navy is a formidable military force within China’s near-seas region, and it is conducting a growing number of operations in the broader waters of the Western Pacific, the Indian Ocean, and waters around Europe.”
Geography is a major problem: Taiwan is barely 100 miles off China’s shore, roughly the same distance as Cuba from America. The PRC could rely on two score mainland military bases and enjoy air superiority over the island. Beijing’s strategy would be anti-access/area denial, using submarines and missiles, especially, to keep the US Navy afar.
Washington would have to rely on allied bases, most notably Japan (Okinawa), the Philippines, and South Korea. However, none of America’s friends want to end up as targets of Chinese missiles. The Republic of Korea, confronting a dangerous North Korea, is least-likely to back the US in a war against the PRC. The Philippines is a semi-failed state; a former defense secretary once opined that his nation had “a navy that can’t go out to sea and an air force that cannot fly.”
Which leaves Japan. North Korea’s nuclear turn and China’s rise have caused Tokyo to plan a major increase in defense outlays. That government now notes its strategic interest in Taiwan, but has insisted that nothing said so far commits Japan to go to war with China over the issue. Entry into any war would turn the entire country into a potential target, and reaffirm Tokyo’s status as an enemy of the PRC.
Alas, the US usually loses wargames involving a Taiwan conflict. Even when America prevails in such contests, the price is quite high. A highly-publicized August wargame gave the trophy to Washington, but only at very substantial cost, including the loss of half the US aircraft involved. The sinking of one aircraft carrier could result in several thousand deaths. The conflict would be nothing like battling unwilling Iraqi soldiers or ill-armed Afghan insurgents.
Equally important, China cares much more about Taiwan than does the US. For the Chinese, the issue is nationalism at its most raw: the island was seized by Japan as war booty more than a century ago. Regaining Taiwan would complete recovery from the so-called “century of humiliation,” during which outside imperialistic powers, including America, effectively humbled and dismantled the moribund Chinese empire.
Taiwan also has obvious military significance. No great power would accept an enemy base so close to its territory. In the event of defeat, China could expect the island to fill with US bases and forces. Washington faced such a possibility with Cuba in 1962 and almost fought a nuclear war with the Soviet Union over the issue.

Anti-Gunners Should be Careful What They Wish For | AmmoLand Shooting Sports News

“Progressives” may wish they hadn’t opened this door. If we’re going to go back to a historical understanding of parental rights, so much for bills aimed at giving the state the final word on puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery without parental consent. So much for school boards siccing the feds on parents protesting subversive agendas.

U.S.A. – -(Ammoland.com)- “Matthew Schindler, the defense attorney for Kneko Tyray Moore, a convicted felon, states that the definition of ‘the people’ in the Second Amendment is not limited to law-abiding responsible citizens,” a Thursday letter to the editor in The Oregonian summarizes. “Schindler’s theory is that the government can’t demonstrate that the criminal charge is not consistent with the nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulations.”
Not so fast, say legal critics.
“The Supreme Court ‘characterized the holders of Second Amendment rights as “law-abiding” citizens no fewer than fourteen times,” Portland federal prosecutor Leah Bolstad argued back, claiming that “notably excludes convicted felons,” and citing Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s admissions in the Bruen decision that the ruling “doesn’t disturb ‘the longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons.’”
What’s absent from that argument are Founding-era citations to back it up and connect “longstanding” to the founding era. That’s because they didn’t.
From Justice Breyer’s dissent (arguably the one thing he got right):
“‘[P]rohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill [and] laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms’ have their origins in the 20th century… ‘Founding-era legislatures did not strip felons of the right to bear arms simply because of their status as felons.’”
It’s not a stretch to surmise they did not have a major recidivism problem with murderers because they were hanged, and lesser felons received long and hard punishments. That, and an armed populace raised in a militia culture that would not tolerate, let alone breed predators and dependents meant the social cancer of collectivist prosecutors turning known threats loose to continue victimizing the productive citizenry just wasn’t the issue modern-day collectivists have turned it into.
And like the maxim (OK, mine) says, anyone who can’t be trusted with a gun can’t be trusted without a custodian.

Where are the Intellectually Curious Doctors? – American Thinker
Posted by M. C. on January 10, 2023
CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky in April 2021 told the world, “Our data from the CDC today suggests that vaccinated people do not carry the virus, don’t get sick.” Any challenges to this statement were deemed anti-vaccine disinformation. Until nine months later when the science changed, “CDC Director Rochelle Walensky went on CNN and said that vaccines cannot prevent transmission of COVID-19.” Yet most physicians did not question the initial and incorrect assertion.

Medicine, like most sciences, entails thinking and hypothesis creation to explain the myriad complexities of the healthy and diseased human body.
Hypotheses are tested and refined, with new information or insights nudging or abruptly shifting current knowledge in a new direction.
For examples, bloodletting with leeches is no longer standard medical practice for most ailments as it was up until the late 19th century. More recently, Vioxx was considered a safer painkiller, until it was found to cause heart attacks and strokes, similar to another “safe and effective” product introduced about two years ago. Oxycontin was marketed as a nonaddictive pain killer until it devasted hundreds of thousands of lives and families and was shown to be otherwise.

Physicians, upon medical school graduation, recite the Hippocratic Oath. Quoting from the revised version (simply because the language is easier to understand), physicians swear, “I will not be ashamed to say, ‘I know not’” and “Above all, I must not play at God.”
Saying “I don’t know” is what drives the pursuit of new or alternate hypotheses. Physicians of a few hundred years ago saw their bloodletting patients die and didn’t know why, so they devised better treatments by asking questions and not playing God.
Some modern physicians play God by declaring, “I am the science,” as if they are the final arbiter in all of medicine. I assume Dr. Anthony Fauci recited the Hippocratic Oath when he graduated medical school.
What questions should physicians have been asking over the past two years? Are they staying mum because they believe the science is settled and challenges to the status quo are heresy? Or are they cowed into silence over fear over losing their ability to practice the profession which they spent a decade learning and from which they earn their living?
Start with the highly touted COVID-19 vaccines.
In the United States, 80% of the population have received one dose and 68% two doses. Yet almost three years into the pandemic, this recent headline from ABC News suggests that there is no end in sight, “WHO sounds the alarm: New COVID variant is most transmissible yet.” And the Washington Post cautions “COVID hospitalizations rising post-Thanksgiving.”
Can we ask why? Wasn’t mass vaccination supposed to prevent this?
CDC director Dr. Rochelle Walensky in April 2021 told the world, “Our data from the CDC today suggests that vaccinated people do not carry the virus, don’t get sick.” Any challenges to this statement were deemed anti-vaccine disinformation. Until nine months later when the science changed, “CDC Director Rochelle Walensky went on CNN and said that vaccines cannot prevent transmission of COVID-19.” Yet most physicians did not question the initial and incorrect assertion.

US Military Increasing Cooperation With Japan to Prepare for War With China – News From Antiwar.com
Posted by M. C. on January 10, 2023
“The top Marine Corps general in Japan says the US is ‘setting the theater’ in the region the same way it did in Ukraine after 2014”
Just like Ukraine! And how is that working for ya?
So Japan’s (and Australia’s) sons and daughters will die for Taiwan before US sons and daughters. Works for the pentagram.
The US and Japanese militaries are increasing cooperation to prepare for a possible war with China over Taiwan or other areas in the Asia Pacific, the top US Marine Corps general in Japan told Financial Times.
Lt. Gen. James Bierman, commander of the Third Marine Expeditionary Force (III MEF) and of Marine Forces Japan, said the US military was preparing for a future conflict in the region the same way it did in Ukraine in 2014 following the US-backed ouster of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.
“Why have we achieved the level of success we’ve achieved in Ukraine? A big part of that has been because after Russian aggression in 2014 and 2015, we earnestly got after preparing for future conflict: training for the Ukrainians, prepositioning of supplies, identification of sites from which we could operate support, sustain operations,” Bierman said.
“We call that setting the theater. And we are setting the theater in Japan, in the Philippines, in other locations,” the general added.
Bierman’s comments came after Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida announced a major overhaul of the Japanese armed forces that involves doubling Tokyo’s military budget. A new security strategy issued by Kishida’s government names China “the biggest strategic challenge” and includes language that can justify military action in defense of the US, breaking from Japan’s post-World War II pacifism.
The Marines Corps has been undergoing an overhaul of its own as it is shifting its focus on preparing for war in the western Pacific rather than fighting counterinsurgencies in the Middle East. Be seeing you

Dailywire Article-DOJ, FBI Probing Classified Docs From Biden’s Vice Presidency Found At Biden Think Tank, Report Says
Posted by M. C. on January 10, 2023
“highly sensitive information obtained from intelligence sources”…”that the White House’s counsel’s office immediately notified the National Archives and the material was retrieved the next day”
Highly sensitive, the next day! Too bad they weren’t on a hard drive, Biden could have wiped it (with a rag like HRC).
Attorney General Merrick Garland has reportedly assigned U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois John Lausch to review classified material from President Joe Biden’s time as vice-president that was discovered at a Biden think tank.
CBS News reported that the approximately 10 documents were found at the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington.
The files were discovered by Biden’s personal attorneys when they “were packing files housed in a locked closet to prepare to vacate office space at the Penn Biden Center in Washington, D.C.”
The attorneys said that the information was found in a box with other materials that were not classified.
CNN reported that some of the classified materials that were discovered included top-secret files designated as “sensitive compartmented information,” which means that the materials include highly sensitive information obtained from intelligence sources.
Richard Sauber, special counsel to the president, said that the moment the material was found – on November 2nd – that the White House’s counsel’s office immediately notified the National Archives and the material was retrieved the next day.
Upon learning about the classified material, the National Archives alerted the DOJ. The FBI is also involved in the investigation.
“The discovery of these documents was made by the President’s attorneys,” Sauber said. “The documents were not the subject of any previous request or inquiry by the Archives. Since that discovery, the President’s personal attorneys have cooperated with the Archives and the Department of Justice in a process to ensure that any Obama-Biden Administration records are appropriately in the possession of the Archives.”
The DOJ review of the material is the first step in determining what further actions could be warranted, the report said, including the possibility of a criminal investigation and appointment of a special counsel.
Lausch was appointed by former President Donald Trump and is one of only two remaining U.S. attorneys from the Trump administration, the report noted. The other holdover is David Weiss, who is conducting a criminal investigation into Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.
This report has been updated to include additional information.

Canadian Board Threatening Dr Jordan B Peterson’s License Over Tweets Pushes Radical Gender, Race Theories
Posted by M. C. on January 9, 2023
Wanna bet the good doctor doesn’t back down?
The Canadian psychology association clashing with Dr Jordan B Peterson over his social media statements has embraced radical gender theory in recent years, even hosting a speaker who told members it is a “microaggression” to offer counseling to clients seeking sex changes.
The College of Psychologists of Ontario (CPO) called out Peterson for his political views on a range of issues and demanded he complete “social media communications retraining” or face a suspension of his license to operate as a clinical psychologist. The best-selling author and Daily Wire+ host has 3.6 million followers on Twitter and millions more on Instagram and YouTube and frequently weighs in on politics and cultural issues.
“What exactly have I done that is so seriously unprofessional that I am now a danger not only to any new potential clients but to the public itself?” Peterson asked in an article for Canada’s National Post.
The disciplinary threat may have more to do with Peterson’s opinions than his methods of communication, given that its embrace of radical gender and race theories runs counter to Peterson’s decidedly non-woke beliefs.
In July 2020, the college established an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group and published “A Commitment to Anti-Racism,” presumably in response to the “call to action” from protesters during the George Floyd riots for businesses to adopt Social Justice doctrine. In April 2021, CPO announced a “gender neutral language” update and an acknowledgment of “gender identity,” a set of ideological beliefs unsupported by empirical evidence.
In June 2021, the Canadian regulatory body introduced Allison Kirschbaum, a self-identified “queer” psychologist whose“approach is informed by feminist social justice scholarship and is rooted in values of diversity, inclusion, and anti-oppression,” to give a presentation on “Ethical Practice in the Context of Sexual and Gender Diversity.”
According to Dr. Michael Grand, the former CPO president, and current Discipline Committee member, over half of the college’s membership participated in the seminar.
The presentation included a lesson on the “Gender Unicorn,” a graphic intended for children to introduce them to the pseudoscientific concept of “gender identity,” created by the activist-led organization Trans Student Educational Resources (TSER). TSER was founded by Eli Erlick, a transgender activist best known for advertising a potentially illegal drug trafficking scheme on social media that would ship prescription drugs to people, including minors.

The Democrats and their FBI Gestapo Have Brought Nazism to America

The Democrats and their FBI Gestapo Have Brought Nazism to America
Paul Craig Roberts
There is no doubt about it
Watch: The Real Story of January 6 | Documentary:
The alleged “January 6 insurrection” is entirely an orchestrated event. The presstitutes have given a completely fabricated account that bears zero relationship to what happened. This documentary by the Epoch Times, a new large online and print newspaper that is filling the role abandoned by the US media of objective reporting, is a font of truthful information backed up by visual evidence. Here are a few of the actual facts. The police behaved as thugs throughout. The police intentionally did their best to provoke a peaceful crowd to violence by shooting into their midst plastic grenades filled with plastic shrapnel. The police, if indeed they were police, broke every rule of police behavior in their efforts to provoke the crowd into violence. They were helped by provocateurs, none of whom have been arrested or questioned. These efforts had little success. So they then killed purely gratuitously two women. Ashley Babbitt was gratuitously murdered by a black police officer for no other reason than to produce the aura of violence that required deadly police force. Another women was murdered by black police as the documentary shows clearly. Neither of the women were doing anything to justify the use of death-dealing force against them. In neither case was there any investigation of the police use of excessive force. The Justice (sic) Department gave a free pass to the murderers. None of the required procedures that are required when people are killed by police were followed. In the case of Derick Chauvin they were excessively applied. We have a two-tiered system of justice in which the application of law depends on race.
The alleged “insurrection” was staged by the Democrats and the Gestapo security agencies that report to them in order to discredit Donald Trump and prevent the presentation to Congress of the evidence that Biden’s election was stolen. It was all carefully planned and organized, and the official narrative was provided to the presstitutes the minute the orchestration began.
The US Department of Justice is a co-conspirator in the plot. Justice (sic) department attorneys have lied in court before judges that police officers were killed by the alleged “Jan. 6 insurrectionists.” No police officers were killed. One died on Jan. 7 from natural causes as medical authorities determined. On the basis of totally false charges, hundreds of Trump supporters have been held in solitary confinement to extract plea bargains as there is no evidence of insurrection.
The Oath Keepers are accused of “seditious intent,” but there are three documented instances in which they went to the aid of the police. This is covered toward the end of the documentary.
The documentary is objective. Too objective in my opinion. It should have been an indictment of the terrifying Third Reich behavior of the Democrats and their Justice Department Brownshirts. The documentary is long–one hour and 40 minutes. But watch it, 15 minutes at a time if necessary. There is a revolution underway that is creating a situation for you that is far worst than life in the Third Reich. The documentary gives you a chance to become aware of the facts that your free society is being overthrown while you sit there watching a sitcom or a football game. There is no one but the people to do anything about it. If they cannot be bothered, they are acquiescing in the rise of tyranny.
