Erie Times E-Edition Article-Gov. Wolf gets COVID-19 vaccine amid J&J pause

Posted by M. C. on April 21, 2021

Took him long enough. But then again he was already immune.

Taking one for the (fear and control) team.

Sam Ruland York Daily Record USA TODAY NETWORK – PENNSYLVANIA

Gov. Tom Wolf Gov. Tom Wolf received his first dose of Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine Monday in York, saying he wanted to show Pennsylvanians how ‘safe and easy’ it is

amid controversy over the Johnson & Johnson vaccine rollout being paused due to adverse reactions. The syringe was wielded by Asceline Go, the vice president of medical services at Family First Health, where the governor received his vaccination.

After getting the injection in his left arm — a process that lasts only a minute — Wolf said he didn’t ‘feel a thing,’ sat back and waited to ensure he had no reactions to the shot.

As of Saturday, 6,999,716 total doses have been administered in the state, and 2,694,321 people in Pennsylvania are fully vaccinated, while another 4,573,436 wait to receive their second dose.

But the state has to keep going, Wolf said. Currently, all residents at least 16 years of age are eligible to receive the vaccine.

‘The vaccine is how we’re going to get through this,’ Wolf said. ‘We have the tool to get out of it, we just have to use the tool.’

However, one of those tools isn’t at Pennsylvania’s disposal for now. The Food and Drug Administration and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended a temporary ‘pause’ last Tuesday as officials investigate a potential link between severe blood clots and low levels of blood platelets. Six women have reported severe blood clots after getting the vaccine and one died; more than 6.8 million Americans have received the J&J vaccine.

On Wednesday, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices met to review evidence but concluded that the group needed more time to review details. Wolf said the group is taking the prudent course to investigate the ‘very rare risk’ of blood clots thoroughly. The pause on using the one-shot vaccine will likely be lifted by Friday, although some restrictions may be required, Dr. Anthony Fauci said Sunday.

The governor’s public immunization comes as health leaders push as many Pennsylvanians as possible to get vaccinated to stop the spread of the virus, which has infected more than 1,103,600 people in the state and taken the lives of more than 25,600.

Back in December, Wolf tested positive for the coronavirus. The 72-year-old, who is a survivor of prostate cancer, said he had no symptoms of the disease before his test or after his diagnosis and quickly recovered.

Wolf said the pause might make some Pennsylvanians more hesitant to get a COVID-19 vaccine, but he believed people would make rational choices. The commonwealth is also shipping more vaccines to primary care physicians because patients tend to trust them more.

‘That’s why I’m here in part — it made me feel more confident — having an FDA and CDC who is watching things as closely as they are,’ Wolf said in regards to the J&J vaccine rollout being paused. ‘So personally, it made me more confident to get my shot to know that they’re watching.’

In the meantime, Wolf has asked vaccine providers to hold onto their Johnson & Johnson shots, which can last up to three months refrigerated. Mass vaccination clinics instead offered Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna vaccines, which require two doses taken weeks apart.

The pause could hamper the commonwealth’s plan to vaccinate college students before they leave campus in May. The effort was dependent on one-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccines to succeed. Many universities and local health departments have switched to offering another vaccine.

What the left fears most – Aussie Nationalist Blog

Posted by M. C. on April 21, 2021

I don’t know anything about Fuentes nor AFPAC but if Maddog doesn’t like them it is worth a look.

https://aussienationalistblog.com/2021/04/21/what-the-left-fears-most/

For some years now, I have been a big supporter of Nick Fuentes and his work.

By way of background, Fuentes is an American commentator of political, cultural as well as social issues–from a nationalist and traditionalist perspective. Banned from Facebook, YouTube, Dlive, and a host of other social media platforms, Fuentes has nonetheless continued to grow in influence. To date, the peak of this growth was seen in the second America First Political Action Conference (AFPAC) held on 27 February 2021. This conference was organised by Fuentes; it also featured high profile attendees including former US Congressman Steve King and current US Congressman Paul Gosar.

AFPAC, explictly inaugurated last year as a right-wing alternative to CPAC, was a genuinely conservative conference. This meant from a leftist perspective, there were various ways in which it could have been attacked–‘racist’, ‘sexist’, ‘homophobic’, etc.

This is what made the most notable attack on AFPAC, initiated by Rachel Maddow of MSNBC, all the more interesting. Maddow falsely claimed that Fuentes, an outspoken critic of the alt-right, favoured a “whites-only nation” and had held a “white nationalist conference.” Being accustomed to the tactics of the lying press, these distortions were of course unsurprising.

However, it was striking that Maddow chose to attack on the grounds of “racism” and “white nationalism,” when race was not even at the centre of AFPAC, nor does it underride the politics of Fuentes. While it was a political conference, AFPAC was predicated on religious themes, with speakers rebuking the current scourge of evil and pledging their loyalty to Jesus Christ. The loudest cheers of the night came when Vincent James, speaking to what underpinned the AFPAC movement, declared:

🇺🇸

Despite the prominence of religious themes, in looking to inflict maximal damage on AFPAC, Maddow focused on ‘racism’ and avoided referencing God.

Exampled by this glaring omission from Maddow, a left-wing journalist, we can plainly discern the preferred modus operandi of the left: It wishes to frame the left-right clash as one of anti-racism vs racism, carefully contained within a materialist spectrum of ideas. The left will not grant God any salience; it instead prefers to brand Adolf Hitler as evil incarnate, with conservatives culpable by association depending on their greater or lesser degree of deviation from racialist ideology.

As outlined previously, the left engineers the dialectic so that it never loses a fight; it constructs narratives that are calculated to bring about our defeat and legitimise their hegemony. Which raises the question: why does the left frame the clash as one of racism vs anti-racism, when it is more fundamentally one of Christianity vs atheist progressivism?

Clearly, because the left fears an authentically Christian reaction, it presenting a greater challenge to their agenda than racialist politics. For it is only through God that people can draw the discipline from which to reconstitute a conservative society, and turn back the revolutionary changes imposed. Likewise, where there is a firm belief in the Divine, people are less concerned with temporal hardship, rendering them less passive in the face of unjust dictates and tyrannical control.

The Sword of Damocles Hangs over Every Property Owner | Mises Wire

Posted by M. C. on April 20, 2021

From here he goes on to explain what fiat property is and what it has to do with our proverbial sword:

The state cannot increase the quality and quantity of real property. But it can redistribute it as it sees fit. It can reduce the real property at the disposal of businessmen or it can limit the range of control that they are allowed over their property; and it can thereby increase its own property (or that of its allies) and increase its own range of control over existing physical things.

The businessmen’s property, then, is their property in name only. It is granted to them by the state, and it exists only as long as the state does not decide otherwise.

https://mises.org/wire/sword-damocles-hangs-over-every-property-owner

Connor Mortell

Cicero wrote of a king by the name of Damocles. He served in the court of Dionysus, and after acknowledging his envy of Dionysus’s lifestyle, Dionysus challenged him to try taking on the lifestyle for himself. At first, Damocles is taken by the royal lifestyle; however, during one of his feasts, Dionysus hung a sword above Damocles that was held by a single horsehair. The stress that this thin hair would eventually succumb to the weight of the sword and it would fall and kill him became too much, and as a result Damocles begged Dionysus to remove him from this position.

This has gone on to be used as an expression for the feeling of everything you have being lost because of some overarching threat, feeling like there is a sword hanging over your head.

Hoppe on Fiat Property

This very same expression was used by Hans-Hermann Hoppe in his book The Great Fiction: Property, Economy, Society, and the Politics of Decline.

But before he gets into the sword of Damocles, Hoppe must first address what fiat property means. The term “fiat” gets thrown around very regularly in the discussion of money, fiat money being money which has obtained some legal status; however, it is much rarer to discuss the concept of fiat property, but no less important. In Hoppe’s chapter entitled “Entrepreneurship with Fiat Property and Fiat Money,” he begins by first addressing fiat property:

We can make two interrelated predictions as to the effect of a state on the business of business. First, and most fundamentally, under statist conditions real property will be called fiat property.

Constantly, the sword of Damocles is hanging over the heads of businessmen. The execution of their business plans is based on their assumption of the existence, at their disposal, of certain physical resources and their physical capabilities, and all their value speculations are based on this physical basis being a given. But these assumptions about the physical basis can be rendered incorrect at any time—and their value calculations vitiated as well—if the state merely decides to change its current legislation and regulation.

This once theoretical threat that the state could—on a whim—demonstrate that the businessman does not truly own his or her property has become more real than ever this last year. Threats like eminent domain were always present to show the evils of which the state is capable; however, even with such options existing, never could one have claimed the degree to which the state would really utilize fiat property upon popular discussion of covid-19. This last year, the single horsehair that was holding up the sword finally snapped. While some states are finally limiting governors on their ability to destroy lives at the stroke of a pen, it is still immediately obvious by looking at all the states that have yet to do so that in our current fearful world, property is more fiat than it ever has been. The state is now the determinant not just of which businesses succeed and fail, but which businesses even get an attempt to do so—no longer the market. As the Austrian readers of Mises Wire know, entrepreneurs making malinvestment decisions because they are guided by state signals rather than market signals is incredibly dangerous.

However, this is not intended as a negative message, but rather as a call to action. While in The Great Fiction Hoppe was too early to address just how fiat our property would become, he still ends his chapter with a positive note that holds just as true today:

A businessman can choose the honorable but at the same time also the most difficult path. This businessman is aware of the nature of the state. He knows that the state and its operators are out to get him and bully him, to confiscate his property and money and, even worse, that they are arrogant, self-righteous, haughty, and full of themselves. Based on such understanding, this very different breed of businessman then tries his best to anticipate and adjust to the state’s every evil move. But he does not join the gang. The does not pay bribes to secure contracts or privileges from the state. Instead, he tries as well as he can to defend whatever is still left of his property and property rights and make as large profits as possible in doing so.

While in this year we’ve seen any shred of property rights be shriveled to the most fiat of fiat property, that is no reason to give up. That is the very reason to take this passage to heart. We as Austrians are called to go forward and act as this very different breed of businessmen. We are called to not join the gang but instead to defend what is left. Most simply, we are called to tu ne cede malis, sed contra audentior ito. Author:

Media Lies Exposed: Officer Sicknick And The False ‘Insurrection’ Narrative

Posted by M. C. on April 20, 2021

Yesterday’s final report by Washington, DC’s chief medical examiner that Capitol Hill Police Officer Brian Sicknick did not die from being beaten with a fire extinguisher – a claim echoed throughout the mainstream media – but rather died from “natural causes” the day after the January 6th melee at the Capitol has destroyed the MSM narrative that an armed and deadly insurrection had taken place. Will the media apologize for lying repeatedly for months? Will they be held to account for their lies? What is truth?

How Empires End – Doug Casey’s International Man

Posted by M. C. on April 20, 2021

Taxes, taxes, taxes

https://internationalman.com/articles/how-empires-end/

by Jeff Thomas

“Experience hath shewn, that even under the best forms of government those entrusted with power have, in time, and by slow operations, perverted it into tyranny.” – Thomas Jefferson

Histories are generally written by academics. They, quite naturally, tend to focus on the main events: the wars and the struggles between leaders and their opponents (both external and internal). Whilst these are interesting stories to read, academics, by their very nature, often overlook the underlying causes for an empire’s decline.

Today, as in any era, most people are primarily interested in the “news”—the daily information regarding the world’s political leaders and their struggles with one another to obtain, retain, and expand their power. When the history is written about the era we are passing through, it will reflect, in large measure, a rehash of the news. As the media of the day tend to overlook the fact that present events are merely symptoms of an overall decline, so historians tend to focus on major events, rather than the “slow operations” that have been the underlying causes.

The Persian Empire

When, as a boy, I was “educated” about the decline and fall of the Persian Empire, I learned of the final takeover by Alexander the Great but was never told that, in its decline, Persian taxes became heavier and more oppressive, leading to economic depression and revolts, which, in turn led to even heavier taxes and increased repression. Increasingly, kings hoarded gold and silver, keeping it out of circulation from the community. This hamstrung the market, as monetary circulation was insufficient to conduct business. By the time Alexander came along, Persia, weakened by warfare and internal economic strife, was a shell of an empire and was relatively easy to defeat.

The Tang Dynasty

Back then, I also learned that the Tang Dynasty ended as a result of the increased power amongst the eunuchs, battles with fanzhen separatists, and finally, peasants’ revolts. True enough, but I was not taught that the dynasty’s expansion-based warfare demanded increases in taxation, which led to the revolts. Continued warfare necessitated increasing monetary and land extortion by the eunuchs, resulting in an abrupt decrease in food output and further taxes. Finally, as economic deterioration and oppression of the citizenry worsened, citizens left the area entirely for more promise elsewhere.

Is there a pattern here? Let’s have a more detailed look—at another empire.

The Spanish Empire

In 1556, Philip II of Spain inherited what was regarded as Europe’s most wealthy nation, with no apparent economic problems. Yet, by 1598, Spain was bankrupt. How was this possible?

Spain was doing well but sought to become a major power. To achieve this, Philip needed more tax dollars. Beginning in 1561, the existing servicio tax was regularised, and the crusada tax, the excusado tax, and the millones tax were all added by 1590.

Over a period of 39 years (between 1559 and 1598) taxes increased by 430%. Although the elite of the day were exempt from taxation (the elite of today are not officially exempt), the average citizen was taxed to the point that both business expansion and public purchasing diminished dramatically. Wages did not keep pace with the resultant inflation. The price of goods rose 400%, causing a price revolution and a tax revolution.

Although Spain enjoyed a flood of gold and silver from the Americas at this time, the increased wealth went straight into Philip’s war efforts. However, the 100,000 troops were soon failing to return sufficient spoils to Philip to pay for their forays abroad.

In a final effort to float the doomed empire, Philip issued government bonds, which provided immediate cash but created tremendous debt that, presumably, would need to be repaid one day. (The debt grew to 8.8 times GDP.)

Spain declared bankruptcy. Trade slipped to other countries. The military, fighting on three fronts, went unpaid, and military aspirations collapsed.

It is important to note that, even as the empire was collapsing, Philip did not suspend warfare. He did not back off on taxation. Like leaders before and since, he instead stubbornly increased his autocracy as the empire slid into collapse.

Present-Day Empires

Again, the events above are not taught to schoolchildren as being of key importance in the decline of empires, even though they are remarkably consistent with the decline of other empires and what we are seeing today. The very same events occur, falling like dominoes, more or less in order, in any empire, in any age:

  1. The reach of government leaders habitually exceeds their grasp.
  2. Dramatic expansion (generally through warfare) is undertaken without a clear plan as to how that expansion is to be financed.
  3. The population is overtaxed as the bills for expansion become due, without consideration as to whether the population can afford increased taxation.
  4. Heavy taxation causes investment by the private sector to diminish, and the economy begins to decline.
  5. Costs of goods rise, without wages keeping pace.
  6. Tax revenue declines as the economy declines (due to excessive taxation). Taxes are increased again, in order to top up government revenues.
  7. In spite of all the above, government leaders personally hoard as much as they can, further limiting the circulation of wealth in the business community.
  8. Governments issue bonds and otherwise borrow to continue expansion, with no plan as to repayment.
  9. Dramatic authoritarian control is instituted to assure that the public continues to comply with demands, even if those demands cannot be met by the public.
  10. Economic and social collapse occurs, often marked by unrest and riots, the collapse of the economy, and the exit of those who are productive.
  11. In this final period, the empire turns on itself, treating its people as the enemy.

The above review suggests that if our schoolbooks stressed the underlying causes of empire collapse, rather than the names of famous generals and the dates of famous battles, we might be better educated and be less likely to repeat the same mistakes.

Unfortunately, this is unlikely. Chances are, future leaders will be just as uninterested in learning from history as past leaders. They will create empires, then destroy them.

Even the most informative histories of empire decline, such as The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, by Edward Gibbon, will not be of interest to the leaders of empires. They will believe that they are above history and that they, uniquely, will succeed.

If there is any value in learning from the above, it is the understanding that leaders will not be dissuaded from their aspirations. They will continue to charge ahead, both literally and figuratively, regardless of objections and revolts from the citizenry.

Once an empire has reached stage eight above, it never reverses. It is a “dead empire walking” and only awaits the painful playing-out of the final three stages. At that point, it is foolhardy in the extreme to remain and “wait it out” in the hope that the decline will somehow reverse. At that point, the wiser choice might be to follow the cue of the Chinese, the Romans, and others, who instead chose to quietly exit for greener pastures elsewhere.

Editor’s Note: The US government is overextending itself by interfering in every corner of the globe. It’s all financed by massive amounts of money printing. However, the next financial crisis could end the whole charade soon.

The truth is, we’re on the cusp of a global economic crisis that could eclipse anything we’ve seen before. That’s exactly why New York Times best-selling author Doug Casey and his team just released a guide that explains what could come next and what you can do about it.. A Left Turn Toward Biased Ignorance – Issues & Insights

Posted by M. C. on April 20, 2021

“In other words, voters were twice as likely to believe certain progressive myths than conservative ones,” according to the report. No doubt that’s a residual effect from our left-leaning media, which now spews socialist “narratives” instead of facts.

https://issuesinsights.com/2021/04/19/a-left-turn-toward-biased-ignorance/

I & I Editorial Board

With the extreme left culturally ascendant, many of our most treasured and valuable national institutions have become houses of progressive Groupthink. Meanwhile, our nation’s founding principles, basic morality, values and even science have come under sustained hostile ideological assault by both the media and academia. Bias and ignorance have been institutionalized. Sadly, according to a new report, voters bear much of the blame for this.

No question, America is a mess. But how did it get that way? The simple answer, the poll of voters suggests, is ignorance, along with pervasive media and political bias.

The study is based on a survey of voters taken shortly after the 2020 presidential election by Just Facts, which describes itself as “a non-profit institute dedicated to publishing comprehensive, straightforward, and rigorously documented facts about public policy issues.”

The group’s most recent study is eye-opening.

It shows, Just Facts says, “that the vast bulk of voters have embraced false and harmful dogmas that accord with their political views.” This, it adds, is largely due to what’s called confirmation bias, “the human tendency to reflexively accept anything that accords with one’s preexisting beliefs and ignore or twist everything that defies them.”

It’s true that both sides of the political debates have their biases.

For instance, among Trump voters, some 76% believe that incomes for the middle class fell during the Obama years. In fact, on average they rose by $5,300.

No group is perfect. But those on the left show themselves to be, well, delusional about what they know and don’t know.

For instance, among Biden voters, 88% believe police are more likely to use deadly force when arresting black Americans than white ones. Wrong. In fact, they’re 42% less likely to use deadly force against blacks.

This, as much as anything, might illustrate why cities around the nation now are wracked by race riots and political violence by far-left extremists like BLM and Antifa. Ignorant voters decry the violence and property destruction, but then excuse it and vote for those who propagate it.

As for the impacts of climate change, only about 38% of Trump voters but 86% of Biden voters believe that the number of powerful, destructive tornadoes has increased since the 1950s. This, by the way, is part of the left’s narrative that global warming has created far-reaching climatic changes, among them violent tornadoes.

Not true. In fact, the average number of violent hurricanes has fallen somewhat.

We could go on. Just Facts asked 21 such questions of 1,000 randomly selected people in their survey, enough for a 3% margin of error.

The average voter correctly answered just 38% of the questions, were wrong 51% of the time, and unsure 10% of the time. A majority could only answer four of the 21 questions correctly.

Think of that when an HR1 supporter says we need more uninformed people voting to “perfect our democracy.”

Perhaps showing the effects of a pervasively left-biased mainstream media, wrong answers strongly correlated to partisan agendas. The data clearly showed this: An average of 57% of the incorrect answers were liberally misinformed, while just 28% were conservatively misinformed.

“In other words, voters were twice as likely to believe certain progressive myths than conservative ones,” according to the report. No doubt that’s a residual effect from our left-leaning media, which now spews socialist “narratives” instead of facts.

And therein lies the rub.

Because, as it turns out, the left are far more likely to believe things and propagate ideas that are factually false than are people on the right. That’s of course completely contrary to the media’s repeated claims that leftists and progressives are more attuned to “science” and “fact-based” reality than conservatives are.

“For all 10 of the questions in which the electorate was most deluded, the wrong answers they gave concurred with progressive narratives propagated by the media,” the voter study showed. “Moreover, the false answers they gave were often far removed from reality, not just slightly mistaken.”

As an example, Just Facts noted, some 66% of voters thought that by doubling the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour, poor families would see their average incomes rise by 25% or more. The real number, as estimated by the Congressional Budget Office from actual labor market and income data, is about 1%.

One final point. Here’s the breakdown for the rate of wrong answers given to the survey’s questions, by demographic and voting group. The numbers speak for themselves.

  • 61% for Biden voters
  • 56% for 18- to 34-year olds
  • 53% for females
  • 51% for 35- to 64-year olds
  • 51% for 65+ year olds
  • 49% for males
  • 42% for Trump voters

Please remember this the next time some leftist in the media tries to convince you how bright, humane and enlightened the sinistral side of the political spectrum is. And you can expect this delusion to get even worse as the Democratic Party continues its very own political gender “transition” to becoming a straight-up, no-apologies Socialist Party.

As President Reagan said, oh-so politely, years ago, “The trouble with our Liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so.”

Straight From the Horse’s Mouth: The Vaccines Are Ineffective – LewRockwell

Posted by M. C. on April 20, 2021

In fact, it now appears that the very vaccines that were supposed to protect you from Covid may make you more vulnerable to it. This is from another study conducted in Israel, one of the world’s most vaccinated nations:

“Israeli researchers found people who received two doses of the Pfizer vaccine were eight times more likely to be infected with the South African variant, and people who received one dose of the vaccine were more likely to get the UK variant.”

It is time to rise up against this gargantuan healthcare fraud and hold the perpetrators and their accomplices responsible.

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2021/04/vasko-kohlmayer/straight-from-the-horses-mouth-the-vaccines-are-ineffective/

By Vasko Kohlmayer

“Pfizer CEO says third Covid vaccine dose likely needed within 12 months,” reads a recent CNBC headline. “Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla said people will ‘likely’ need a third dose of a Covid-19 vaccine within 12 months of getting fully vaccinated,” we are told.

“Moderna hopes to have Covid booster shot for its vaccine ready by the fall, CEO says,” announces another CNBC report. “Moderna hopes to have a Covid booster shot available for Americans by the fall, according to CEO Stephane Bancel,” the article reassures concerned readers.

The hidden lead in these reports is that one of history’s greatest frauds is being perpetrated right before our eyes. This should be obvious to anyone capable of making a logical deduction.

The inescapable implication of these reports is that the vaccines being currently administered will not give you sufficient protection against Covid-19 going forward. In other words, these injections are ineffective.

If these vaccines were effective, the CEOs of these companies would not speak about the necessity of receiving another shot in a few months’ time.

Let us spell it out again: come this fall, the vaccine that you have taken or are about to take will not protect you from Covid.

Why, then, are governments still going ahead with these massive vaccination programs that inject ineffective pharmaceuticals into the arms of millions every day?

For not only are these hastily cooked up concoctions ineffective, they are outright dangerous. Thousands of people have been needlessly killed by them and hundreds of thousands have suffered serious injuries.

“10,000+ deaths after COVID shots reported by U.S., European agencies,” we read in a report that compiled data collected by various government bodies. “More than 7,000 deaths have occurred in Europe, and more than 200,000 injuries worldwide have been reported,” we learn.

The question is this: why are these vaccination programs – which are causing widespread death and injury – and which are ineffective vis-à-vis their stated purpose, i.e., protecting against Covid, allowed to continue?

This is nothing less than a crime against humanity, which is being carried out by pharma companies and their enablers in government and the scientific community with the help of the media shills.

Real scientists have always known that due to the mutating nature of the virus, it will not be possible to come up with an effective vaccine against Covid-19. This, however, did not stop pharma executives and their scientific sidekicks from cooking up ineffective and dangerous concoctions and then injecting them into the bodies of hundreds of millions of human beings.

Why would they do this? Because of money, of course. The value of Moderna’s CEO shares, for example, has now shot up to about five billion dollars. Not a bad payoff for other peoples’ pain.

Tellingly, the CEO, Stephane Bancel, has refused to reveal his own vaccination status.

But the fraud runs even deeper. Not only will the presently offered vaccines be ineffective against variants that will emerge in the fall, but they are already ineffective against some of the variants in circulation right now.

Just consider this headline from CNBC: “Covid variant from South Africa was able to ‘break through’ Pfizer vaccine in Israeli study.” The piece’s opening sentence informs us that “[t]he coronavirus variant first discovered in South Africa is able to evade some of the protection of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.” This should make everyone pause, since the South African variant is a widespread mutation that has been detected in dozens of countries around the world and has already become the dominant strain in some of them.

Finally, Germany is talking about ‘Dexit’ – spiked

Posted by M. C. on April 20, 2021

The AfD has taken its most Eurosceptic line yet. That’s good news for democracy.

https://www.spiked-online.com/2021/04/19/finally-germany-is-talking-about-dexit/

Sabine Beppler-Spahl
Germany Correspondent

Could the AfD (Alternative für Deutschland) be about to make history? Before the AfD’s party conference had even ended last Sunday, the term ‘Dexit’ – short for a German exit from the EU – was circulating in the press. The reason is the AfD’s programme for September’s elections: ‘We consider a withdrawal of Germany from the European Union and the establishment of a new European Economic and Interest Community necessary’, it says – a demand which has caused more than a little stir.

This is the furthest the AfD has ever gone in its opposition to the EU. Of course, its programme has other demands, but it is in the Dexit policy that many commentators see proof of an increasing influence of the far-right within the party’s ranks. The AfD is now ‘openly radical’, said Der Spiegel. Deutschlandfunk, Germany’s state radio station, reminded its listeners that before the 2019 European elections, AfD delegates had still been willing to follow the leadership’s milder Euroscepticism, only calling for Germany to leave the Euro.

Pro-EU commentators in Germany have long tried to dismiss any EU scepticism as right-wing extremism – the fact that the AfD is now campaigning for Dexit seems to confirm their point. But most are also anxiously asking themselves how many voters the AfD might win over with its new anti-EU programme. Time and again, the AfD has demonstrated a good sense of the mood in large parts of the population. And even though pundits like to pretend that party delegates were manipulated by the right-wing Björn Höcke (the leader of the notorious Flügel wing of the party), they know this is wrong.

The real reason the AfD has embraced Dexit, after long debates at the party congress, is simply that delegates believe it can help the party reach more voters. Dexit has given the AfD an important and unique selling point for the upcoming elections.

The EU is more unpopular in Germany than ever – and it isn’t just the AfD that knows it. There are many reasons: Ursula von der Leyen’s undemocratic appointment as EC president, the unresolved refugee crisis, the coronavirus vaccination disaster, and the way in which the Next Generation EU Recovery Fund is being waved through parliaments, despite its risks and uncertainties (a lawsuit against it is currently pending before the German constitutional court).

Only the most arrogant or naive Europhile could expect the electorate not to notice any of this. And it would be absurd to believe that no party would try to capitalise on voters’ rising sense of frustration. And since the Left Party (Die Linke) abandoned Euroscepticism several years ago, the field has been left to the AfD.

So is it good or bad that the AfD is calling for Dexit? Of course it would be good if others, perhaps even some new parties, could develop a serious critique of the EU and offer an alternative to German voters. But it is good that Dexit has at least been brought into the election campaign. The very possibility of a critical debate emerging will put pressure on our already defensive establishment to find better arguments for the EU than ‘it’s a nice idea’ or ‘it’s good for our exports’.

Of course, only the election itself will show how successful the AfD’s campaign will be – but the party might find that it is pushing against an open door.

Be seeing you

The Ron Paul Institute-Why Can’t We ‘Just March Out’ Of Afghanistan

Posted by M. C. on April 20, 2021

A recent article in the Military Times lays out the massive disaster of the US two-decade war on Afghanistan: more than two trillion dollars spent – much of it going to fund crooked practices in Afghanistan and here at home. And even worse, the Cost of War Project has estimated that a quarter of a million people have been killed in the war.

Why Can’t We ‘Just March Out’ Of Afghanistan

Apr 19 – Last week President Biden announced a “full” US withdrawal from Afghanistan – the longest war in US history – by the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attack on the United States. While this announcement is to be welcomed, the delayed US withdrawal may result in Americans and Afghans dying needlessly for good PR optics back home. We all remember how many Americans died after President Bush’s “Mission Accomplished” stunt in Iraq.

The war has been a disaster from day one. So why wait to end it?

The previous Trump Administration had negotiated an agreement for the US to be out of Afghanistan by the first of May, but in its obsession with tossing out anything associated with Trump, President Biden will continue to keep US troops in harm’s way in this pointless war.

The Taliban have kept their end of the “Doha Agreement” signed under then-President Trump: no Americans have been killed in Afghanistan for more than a year. However, the US side under President Biden will formally violate the Agreement by keeping US troops in-country after May 1st. The Taliban has announced that it will hold the US “liable” for remaining in-country after the agreed-upon departure date. That means more Americans may be killed.

The outcome of the war will not be altered in the slightest by keeping US troops in Afghanistan four additional months. The withdrawal is already announced and no one paying attention expects the corrupt US-backed Kabul government to survive. It is another Saigon moment, proving that the intellectually bankrupt US foreign policy and military established has learned absolutely nothing from history. So if another American is killed, who is going to explain to the grieving family why their loved one had to remain in harm’s way for a good 9/11 photo-op?

A recent article in the Military Times lays out the massive disaster of the US two-decade war on Afghanistan: more than two trillion dollars spent – much of it going to fund crooked practices in Afghanistan and here at home. And even worse, the Cost of War Project has estimated that a quarter of a million people have been killed in the war.

We do applaud President Biden’s decision to ignore the demands of all the neocons who have flocked to support his Administration, but as is most often the case, when it comes to Washington you have to really read the fine print when something sounds too good to be true. In this case, the fine print is that the US will not actually be leaving Afghanistan at all. As a recent article in The Grayzone points out, the Afghan war will continue with US special forces, CIA paramilitaries, and guns-for-hire taking the place of US soldiers. The war is not going to end, it’s just going to be “privatized.”

My philosophy has always been simple: we just marched in, so we can just march out. As we have learned recently, that is exactly what President Trump tried to do in the final days of his presidency, only to get cold feed after his military and national security “experts” told him it was a terrible idea. When the history of the Trump Administration is written, it will sadly be filled with stories of Trumps’ excellent instincts tossed aside by his inability to demand that those working for him follow his orders. It’s tragic.

We need to be completely out of Afghanistan. Yesterday.
