So What? – LewRockwell LewRockwell.com

Posted by M. C. on December 16, 2021

Until a cure for the true ‘pandemic’ of Aggressive Ignorance and its ‘variants’: Contagious Apathy, Instant Gratification, and Technologically Induced Narcissism, the continued erosion of the remainder of Freedom and Liberty will continue, leaving “So What?” unanswered.

By Brian Wilson

According to the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989:7

“Whoever knowingly develops, produces, stockpiles, transfers, acquires, retains, or possesses any biological agent, toxin, or delivery system for use as a weapon, or knowingly assists a foreign state or any organization to do so, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned for life or any term of years, or both. There is extraterritorial Federal jurisdiction over an offense under this section committed by or against a national of the United States.”

So what?

“Acts”, Laws, regulations, restrictions all come with penalties. But without enforcement mechanisms and the will/power/authority to use them, any “Act” is just an arrangement of words on paper to make politicians look righteous.

Consider: If the Government – and the Public – knew for undeniable, irrefutable Fact the dreaded ‘COVID virus’ was developed and released in Wu Han with the explicit intention of devastating the United States and the rest of the ‘Free World’, what precisely would any entity effectively *do* about it? Bomb Bejing? Impose Severe Financial Sanctions? Condemn China On The World Stage With A Sternly Worded State Dept. Press Release? Demand Reparations? Express “Outrage!”? The political status of America indicates the answer is None of the Above.

Consider: According to the Act “Whoever knowingly develops…or knowingly assists…shall be fined or imprisoned for life…”.

So what?

Does any sentient being capable of walking upright believe China’s Chairman Xi Jinping would willingly surrender to such an indictment? That China would pay a fine of any amount? Or be forced to admit its guilt on the World stage for violating the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989, being responsible for the death of millions’? Only the recently lobotomized would check the “Yes” box.

In my last LRC scribbling, I posed two challenges:

Name the 2 things you come in contact with every day that are not taxed, regulated, embargoed, licensed, restricted, or prohibited by the Government;

Name the 2 issues impacting your life on a daily basis that have not originated from Government.

 Answers: None and All

With such an unambiguous universal indictment of Government, how are we to understand – and accept – its continued existence? What “Government Service” could not be more economically, more effectively performed by Private Citizens working in voluntary cooperation to their mutual benefit and, subsequently, the benefit of others? Aside from ‘National Defense”, what human endeavors would be hobbled by the elimination of Government taxation, confiscation, regulation, economic restrictions, personal as well as commercial prohibitions, and the agencies that enforce them?

The 535 ‘elected officials” – and thousands of unelected bureaucrats – in Washington, in addition to the several thousand who comprise the elected, appointed, and assumed State ‘leaders’ total a tiny fraction of the 330 million people whose lives they presume to run without authority or mutual agreement; the ‘social contract’ is a dirty joke. Which begs the question: Why? With such an overwhelming number of acts, laws, orders, regulations negatively impacting the lives of literally every person, why is Government even permitted to exist? Anyone can write a Declaration, a Constitution, an Act or Law, and with enough guns, command compliance. That’s not Freedom; that’s not Liberty. By any logic, reason, or objective analysis, Government is a criminal operation of intimidation, the immoral imposition of Force yielding Tyranny camouflaged by the fiction of Tradition, the designed ineptitude of ‘public education’ and the principled failure of the Press acting as the citizen’s “Watchdog at the Gate”, guarding against the overreach of Government intrusion.

Consider: what was the last act of Government that advanced Freedom, protected Liberty; that ‘secured’ your unalienable rights? When did you give your ‘consent’ to be governed by sociopaths, psychopaths, narcissists, pedophiles, liars, thieves, and incompetents? Where is your signed copy of the “social contract”?

So what?

Until a cure for the true ‘pandemic’ of Aggressive Ignorance and its ‘variants’: Contagious Apathy, Instant Gratification, and Technologically Induced Narcissism, the continued erosion of the remainder of Freedom and Liberty will continue, leaving “So What?” unanswered.

Brian Wilson [send him mail], nationally ignored talk show host and occasional LRC un-indicted co-contributor having recently released his fourth book, is now busily scribbling an unlikely screenplay for #3. With his spare hour, he is focused on splitting the atom and pursuing the elusive Whirled Peas, all from his technically challenged studios on the formerly pristine shores of the Great Unnamed Lake, allegedly in the Southeast

Afghanistan is not about you – spiked

Posted by M. C. on August 21, 2021

Tom Tugendhat and Johnny Mercer remind us of the narcissism of Western intervention.

The war in Afghanistan was a futile exercise in Western meddling. There are no positives to draw from it. Tugendhat and Mercer do their fellow ex-servicemen no favours in pretending otherwise.

Conservative MPs Johnny Mercer and Tom Tugendhat set Twitter alight with applause yesterday, after speaking in the House of Commons debate on Afghanistan. As women in Kabul were being forced into burqas, children were trying to escape on overcrowded planes, and shots were being fired on protesters in Jalalabad, these MPs were tearing up over the real victims: British veterans of the war.

For ex-soldiers Mercer and Tugendhat, the withdrawal from Afghanistan is a betrayal of their own hard work. These MPs tended to focus less on the conflict than on the ‘civilising’ aspect of the mission. Tugendhat, for instance, recounted his joy at opening a girls’ school. Mercer suggested that Afghan youngsters would be grateful for the brief window of non-Taliban rule – when Western armies patrolled the streets instead. ‘For a period of time… they would have experienced the freedom and privileges we enjoy here and no one will ever take that away from them’, Mercer said. I’m sure there are many teenage Afghans dreaming of better times – like back in 2006, when the sounds of British tanks filled the streets of Musa Qala.

But now that this ‘nation-building’ project has started to fall apart, Tugendhat’s main worry seems to be the effect this could have on veterans like himself. ‘This last week has seen me struggle through anger, grief and rage’, he said. It ‘has torn open some of those wounds, has left them raw and left us all hurting’.

Tugendhat slammed the government for not having the ‘patience’ to keep troops in Afghanistan for longer. Responding to those who recognised reality – that the West’s nation-building efforts had failed spectacularly – Tugendhat invoked his own form of army identity politics. ‘Those who have never fought for the colours they fly should be careful about criticising those who have’, he warned.

There is nothing surprising about politicians or ex-army officers trying to shape the narrative of Britain’s involvement in a war overseas. But the idea that we should shy away from criticising the war effort to protect the feelings of the soldiers who served in it reveals the narcissism of the interventionist mindset. Mercer spoke about the inspiration veterans drew from their ‘forefathers’, who fought ‘in the same amphitheatre’ in centuries past. ‘And you can be forever proud of what you did when the nation called’, he added. His description of Afghanistan as an ‘amphitheatre’ is revealing. But we shouldn’t all have to applaud at the end of the show. Podcast Afghanistan: a disaster made in the West spiked

The emotive displays put on by Tugendhat, Mercer and other ex-soldiers like Tobias Ellwood also reveal a great deal about the changing nature of the British Army. The army now puts out recruitment adverts calling for ‘snowflakes’, ‘me me me millennials’ and ‘phone zombies’. These are explicitly aimed at young people in ‘boring’ jobs in search of fulfillment. You could be forgiven for thinking that people trained to fight and kill at the command of the state were really being engaged in some kind of self-help programme. It is no wonder, then, that politicians talk about the destructive decades of Western involvement in Afghanistan as something to be ‘proud of’. The actual mission and its failure are irrelevant. What matters is whether it was fulfilling for the Western actors in the war.

Tugendhat argued that ‘forever peace is bought, not cheaply, but hard, through determination and the will to endure’. But how much longer should Afghans, Iraqis or Syrians expect to endure the West’s campaign for ‘forever peace’? Another 20 years? The mission of ‘nation-building’ has lasted from Tony Blair to Boris Johnson, and from George Bush to Joe Biden. It has led to thousands of deaths in Central Asia and the Middle East. All these efforts have failed to prevent the return of the barbarous Taliban. Heart-rending speeches by British politicians are not going to change that.

The war in Afghanistan was a futile exercise in Western meddling. There are no positives to draw from it. Tugendhat and Mercer do their fellow ex-servicemen no favours in pretending otherwise.

Woke in the City That Never Sleeps – Taki’s Magazine – Taki’s Magazine

Posted by M. C. on May 31, 2021

Narcissism is now as American as apple pie, with the media and Hollywood feeding it and genuflecting to violent criminals while blaming society and white supremacy for the condition.

Reading Daniel McCarthy in the Spectator U.S. about Sohrab Ahmari, I was struck by the subject’s introduction to Americans “of the spiritual patrimony of which they have been deprived.” Yes, again and again, “Americans have been deprived of their moral and philosophical inheritance by a shallow educational establishment.” Woke does not only dominate the press, television, and Hollywood, its supreme mandate is where education is concerned.

Taki

NEW YORK—The Big Bagel is getting so bad, even the baddies are demanding the fuzz do something. As the body count rises, it is obvious that the victims of violence are predominantly poor and minority. Last week, a woman killed in a drive-by shooting had been attending a vigil for a friend who was shot dead after stepping on a gunman’s shoe. A man mortally slashed on a Manhattan subway platform had recently been paroled for an attack on a Jewish woman and her mother. Brazen gunslingers are shooting the daylights out of each other in the Bagel, and there was a shooting spree in the middle of Times Square that left three innocents, including a 4-year-old girl, among the victims.

And yet, up here where I live, it could be Giuliani time, when crime disappeared and the numbers plunged like never before. One hears and reads about the daily gunplay, and compares the statistics to those of forty years ago. Robbery is up close to 30%, grand larceny 66%, and shootings 166.1%. Murder is up 32% from 2019. One wonders when the useless mayor will declare an emergency as the place is starting to resemble a war zone, and after the Covid crisis more and more New Yorkers believe the city is ungovernable and unlivable. Still, two of the numerous candidates running for mayor rant in their speeches about defunding the police. Violent criminals no longer have any fears, according to Pat Lynch, president of the Police Benevolent Association, and having done away with bail laws, criminals get booked and walk, free to continue shooting and robbing people. Cuomo and de Blasio, architects of these new laws, shamelessly go about their business, which is appearing on television and patting themselves on the back. “Every message one hears nowadays is geared to one’s ego, how great, how beautiful, how wonderful everyone is.”

It all began, methinks, with the spiritual and moral bankruptcy of woke, an idea that establishes bad as good, legal as illegal, and unfair as fair. A false consciousness that sees criminals as good and cops as criminals prevails, especially among minorities, the trouble being minorities are now the majority in cities like New York, Chicago, Detroit, and Minneapolis. Narcissism is now as American as apple pie, with the media and Hollywood feeding it and genuflecting to violent criminals while blaming society and white supremacy for the condition. Every message one hears nowadays, either in advertisements or by politicians, is geared to one’s ego, how great, how beautiful, how wonderful everyone is. Adverts on TV show extremely obese people announcing how happy they are in their skin while swallowing triple-decker hamburgers. And yet everything one reads or listens to nowadays is a complaint—life has become a battlefield; everything, especially work, leads to burnout; the government needs to step in and stop the slaughter. If one read or listened to online complaints—which I don’t, and wouldn’t even if I knew how to—one would be confronted only with despair, unfairness, and grief.

But I’m getting away from my main subject: the present dystopia of what used to be the fun Bagel. Pro- and anti-Israel demos were taking place last week, with BLM and anti-cop mobs on the side of the Palestinians, as if the latter didn’t have enough problems being blasted by Israeli jets. On Saturday morning I went for my exercises in the park and on my way home stopped for the papers. On 68th Street between Park and Lexington, a street that is one-way and goes east, a young black thug on a motorcycle was going west at full speed and on the sidewalk to boot. I yelled at him to get off as he missed me by a foot or two. He sort of stopped and pointed at a knife in his belt. I’m no hero but I do have a temper. So I pretended to have something of my own in my rear pocket. He then gunned his motor and left. I spotted a cop car on the corner of Park and told the cops what had transpired. They almost laughed at me, then drove off. Since the mayor and his police commissioner dismantled the city’s successful anti-gun street-crime units, the fuzz refuses to get involved with anything but the most blatant of crimes.

I don’t blame them. Any witness against the cops is given the kind of trust Princess Di gave Martin Bashir. And the fuzz has given up on petty crime, the benchmark of Giuliani’s anti-crime success of forty years ago. Bikers who race up the wrong streets and on the sidewalks are an everyday and constant occurrence, and the cops are totally indifferent to the public’s complaints. As well they should be. The anti-cop zeitgeist by the media and BLM has succeeded in turning the police into the bad guys, and those who flaunt the law into the good ones. See what I mean about what woke has done? And no one is more woke than media people. What Bashir did to Diana, his kind, the majority of journalists are doing to the rest of us. I’m off to London soon, and won’t miss the Bagel one bit.

Peak Wokeness – LewRockwell

Posted by M. C. on October 17, 2019

“No, I had a sense of [how] what I said felt for me,” James said after the Los Angeles Lakers’ practice. “And like I said yesterday, when I speak upon things, I speak from a very logical standpoint on things that hit home for me. Yesterday, obviously, I gave thoughts on what I felt and how I saw things that transpired from that week that we were [in China].”

The narcissism is cute, isn’t it?

This is really a gift that just keeps on giving….

As a reminder, Daryl Morey – general manager of the NBA’s Houston Rockets – tweeted a few days ago: “Fight for Freedom, Stand with Hong Kong.”

All hell broke loose: the NBA makes a lot of money in China, NBA teams were playing in China, the Chinese government cancelled various promotional events and tore down banners.  It may be the most expensive tweet in history.

Then we had the most outspoken woke leaders of the NBA either silent or wishy-washy: Steve Kerr, Gregg Popovich, and the many over-sized personalities to be found amongst the ranks of the players.  None of them ever shy to criticize something of America or Trump – but never the important stuff like war, empire, or all spying all the time (in fact, these same people are found praising one or more of these).

No one from the contingent of the woke said anything of substance…until now.  Following is from an interview with Lebron James; his team – the Los Angeles Lakers – was one of the teams in China when all hell broke loose.

LeBron said Morey was ‘misinformed’ about the ramifications of his tweet, and not ‘educated’ about the situation.

He then said ‘so many people could have been harmed, not only financially, but physically, emotionally, and spiritually.’

If that wasn’t enough, he went to twitter to clarify things:

My team and this league just went through a difficult week.  I think people need to understand what a tweet or statement can do to others.  And I believe nobody stopped and considered what would happen.  Could have waited a week to send it.

It is interesting that counsel for considering what a tweet or statement can do is offered only when Lebron’s personal safety or wealth are at stake.

Let me clear up the confusion. I do not believe there was any consideration for the consequences and ramifications of the tweet.  I’m not discussing the substance.  Others can talk About that.

Consequences and ramifications…rarely stopped the woke thought leaders before.  And when has Lebron not discussed the substance on any social issue?  I guess only when his personal safety or wealth are at stake.

Regarding his comments, the hypocrisy is overwhelming.  As was the reaction.  You really should go to the link to read the many powerful reactions – from some pretty well-known people.  A few samples:

Isaac Stone Fish: This is just stunning. The Lakers LeBron James, one of the most influential people in basketball and an outspoken voice in support of rights issues in the United States — sides with the Chinese Communist Party and criticizes the Houston Rockets GM.

Derek Hunter: There was no confusion, LeBron. You care more about making more millions than you do human rights. You are also happy to attack the country that enabled you to make millions, but not the one paying your league billions. You have your priorities and freedom isn’t one of them.

Clay Travis: Ultimately @KingJames, the woke media’s star athlete, is a hypocritical sell out. If you pay him enough money, he won’t just shut up and dribble, he’ll also kneel before his Chinese masters

You get the idea.  Meanwhile, in Hong Kong:

Protestors in Hong Kong cheered when a ball dropped into the basket after smashing into a photo of LeBron James’ face that was placed above the hoop.

They also trampled on jerseys bearing his name and gathered in a semicircle to watch one burn.

And now today:

…James was asked whether he had a sense of how his own comments would be felt in Hong Kong among protesters.

Kind of makes you feel all warm and cuddly inside.  Daryl Morey should care about how his statements impact other people, but not Lebron James.  “It’s all about me and how I feel.”

If we haven’t yet reached peak wokeness, we aren’t far off.  I suspect every time James or any of the woke NBA players and executives speak out on some woke social justice cause from now on, they will get this episode shoved back in their faces.

Wokeness will consume itself, as it must.  This is a very obvious example, but it is true from top to bottom.  Taking individualism to an extreme, intersectionality is an ongoing and never-ending process.  Women vs. men; minorities vs. whites; gays vs. straight.

Then what? Minority women vs. minority men; minority women vs. white women; minority lesbians vs. minority straight women.  But what about the white lesbian vs. the minority straight woman?  Who wins?

Now, start adding five or six of the newly privileged labels and then figure out the priority order of social power.  The list is endless, what with Facebook offering 71 (and growing) gender options, multiplied by a long list of nationalities / races, raised to the power of body shape and body shaming.

It will be a war of all woke-ees against all woke-ees.  They will consume themselves, while normal human beings stand back and watch.  Meanwhile, the search for meaning by many young people points to some hope for sanity in the coming years.

Conclusion

We have reached peak wokeness; this episode marks the event.  I don’t know if Daryl Morey made his now-controversial statement with this end in mind, but this is where we are.

All I can say is thank you, Daryl.

In America Emotion Rules Reason – PaulCraigRoberts.org

Posted by M. C. on August 29, 2019

…we live in an orchestrated world with controlled explanations designed to keep us adhering to the ruling agendas.

https://www.paulcraigroberts.org/2019/08/28/in-america-emotion-rules-reason/

Paul Craig Roberts

For many years I have observed and commented from time to time on the rise in American narcissism and decline in cognitive ability. American narcissism has an emotional coloration. Utterly ignorant Americans have no problem believing that they know more than experts they belittle, demonstrating all the while that they have no understanding of what the expert has written.

Emotional responses are gradually crowding out fact and evidence based reason. Truth is losing its connection to objectivity and is becoming agenda based. If it serves the agenda, and agendas are increasingly emotion based, it is truth. Many can no longer comprehend the content of what they read. Words become like a bullfighter’s red cape. They set off emotions, not thought. Depending on how people have been programmed by their education, indoctrination, and value inculcation, they have emotive responses. One consequence is that discussion is replaced by denunciation.

Yet even I was stunned by the instantaneous universal demonization of Trump and the American people who elected him as “racist white supremacists” by the entirety of the US media, Democratic Party, and American liberal/progressive left. The catalyst for this launching of hate speech against the American white population was a mass shooting in El Paso. As the shooter had shot immigrants, Trump and those who elected him, were blamed because Trump’s attempt to control US borders in accordance with US law, which is his duty, alledgely inspired the shooter even though the shooter stated in his explanation that Trump had nothing to do with it.

I was struck by how primed were those who control explanations to lay the blame on Trump and the American electorate for a shooting incident. It reminded me of how primed Germans were in the 1930s by Jewish financial and economic control, real or alleged, to Nationalist Socialists’ attacks on Jews. A long period of demonization of Jews ended in massacres.

It made me wonder what the future of white Americans and Europeans would be in the long run if they are continually demonized as they shrink as a percentage of the population. If people are so powerless that they lose their countries, how do they retain their lives?

It also made me wonder how it could be that it was white people who were accused of hating non-white people when the most violet expressions of hate were against white people…

Like Russiagate, Saddam Hussian’s weapons of mass destruction, Iranian nukes, Russian invasion of Ukraine, Gulf of Tonkin, 9/11, and so on, we live in an orchestrated world with controlled explanations designed to keep us adhering to the ruling agendas.

Americans, indeed the entirety of Europe, live in The Matrix. I am getting tired of trying to get you out of the controlled explanations that control your mind. I am no Morpheus, and I can’t find Neo. As far as I can tell, the Western world is lost. The place of understanding is taken by inchoate emotions that the Zionists call “self-hating.” How can a culture that hates itself—hate that will be reinforced by the New York Times 1619 Project—survive?

Here is Pear’s denunciation of me and white people:
