Again, the distinction here is purely arbitrary, and relies on convenient fictions such as claims that a farmer in Idaho and a lawyer at the Supreme Court are “all Americans” and thus the former must submit to the political power of the latter. These pretensions toward American solidarity only apply in one direction, of course, and are never employed to actually limit federal power. Such ideas endure, however, because they conform to the ideological whims of those who successfully mold and propagate public opinion.
https://mises.org/wire/myth-behind-federal-power-strike-down-state-laws
For more than a century, the process of political centralization and state building in the United States has entailed convincing a large portion of the population that the federal government must be the final arbiter of the moral righteousness of every law and policy adopted in every state. The idea began as a novel concept in the nineteenth century when federal policy makers began to use it as a tool of asserting federal control over states. If federal institutions regard a state policy as conforming to federal notions of “rights,” then the policy is allowed to stand. If, not, then the federal government deems the law to be null and void. This negation of state and local policies, of course, is backed with real or threatened coercive force applied by federal institutions.
Over more than two centuries, the regime’s written constitution has been repeatedly reinterpreted to create powers of “judicial review” and enhance federal veto powers over state and local laws. Today, this power is accepted without question by the overwhelming majority of Americans.
Moreover, the idea permeates all corners of the political spectrum, so that conservatives and progressives alike can routinely be heard calling for the federal government to step in and overturn local laws by force when those local laws are not to the liking of activists. The modern Left, of course, has long called for federal intervention in every state and local government right down to the local school board. Through this process, for example, even school prayer at a high school sports game has been turned into a federal issue. Conservatives, meanwhile, demand that the federal government void state and local gun laws where conservatives regard these laws as overly restrictive.
This is even a common notion among self-described libertarians, many of whom insist that it is entirely proper for one government—i.e., the federal government—to impose certain laws on another government—namely, the state and local governments.
Among advocates of this sort of thing, whether progressive, conservative, or libertarian, it is justified on the grounds that federal intervention must be allowed to “protect rights”—with the federal government also defining rights to fit federal preferences. Moreover, the central government in these cases is to be the sole judge of its own laws and policies, and not subject to any intervention from any other government for purposes of protecting rights, or anything else.

The US wants to launch attacks from Poland and the Baltic states, military intelligence chief claimed
We did so well starting wars with other advanced countries such as Vietnam, Iraq and Afghaistan – what could go wrong?
https://www.rt.com/russia/558573-belarus-intelligence-war-poland/
The US is making plans for a direct war against Russia and its ally Belarus, the head of Belarusian military intelligence warned on Thursday. The scenario is becoming more likely as the proxy war in Ukraine and other ways to hurt the two nations are failing, he claimed.
“The territory of Poland as well as the Baltic states is being turned into a staging ground, from which the US plans to unleash a new bloody conflict in Europe, targeting the Russian Federation and its allies,” Major General Ruslan Kosygin said.
He cited NATO training troops for rapid deployment in Eastern Europe and the development of anti-ballistic missile systems in the region as evidence of the looming crisis. Further proof, he claimed, is the “dangerous attempts by some Polish politicians to initiate a return of so-called historically Polish regions” in western Ukraine and Belarus.
The general said his agency believed that Western nations were preparing for an attack against Belarus and Russia under the guise of deterring Russia from launching an invasion, which is how NATO justifies its military build up in Eastern Europe. Belarus “does not favor” the scenario of a war, but will act decisively, if it comes true, Kosygin said.
He said an escalation was becoming increasingly possible because “the West is coming to the realization that traditional methods of hybrid aggression against Russia and Belarus are not producing the results it wants.”
Direct confrontation with Poland and Baltic nations, if it starts, would be similar to the hostilities in Ukraine in terms of principal origin, Kosygin said. Ukraine “was deliberately pumped with weapons since 2014. It was trained to fight, and fight particularly against the Russians,” he said.
“Unfortunately, similar anti-Russian, and lately anti-Belarussian sentiments have been injected in the same way into the minds of people of Poland and the Baltic states,” he added.
Russia sent troops into Ukraine on February 24, citing Kiev’s failure to implement the Minsk agreements, designed to give the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk special status within the Ukrainian state. The protocols, brokered by Germany and France, were first signed in 2014. Former Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has since admitted that Kiev’s main goal was to use the ceasefire to buy time and “create powerful armed forces.”
In February 2022, the Kremlin recognized the Donbass republics as independent states and demanded that Ukraine officially declare itself a neutral country that will never join any Western military bloc. Kiev insists the Russian offensive was completely unprovoked.

Gateway Pundit
Farmers‘ protests in the Netherlands have reached the royal palace at Dam Square in Amsterdam. 16-year old Jouke, who was shot at by a police officer on Tuesday, was released without charges.
Opposition leader Geert Wilders released a bombshell letter showing the globalist Dutch government wants to use expropriated agricultural land for asylum centers.
Around 40,000 Dutch farmer paralyzed traffic in the Netherlands and blocked around 20 food distribution centers over the weekend with trucks and tractors. Yesterday the protests reached Dam Square in Amsterdam and the seat of government in The Hague. The airport in Groningen was blockaded by demonstrators on Wednesday, German farmers joined the protests in Heerenberg near the Dutch-German border.
In an incident near the blockaded food distribution center at Heerenveen in Friesland, police officers shot at 16-year-old Jouke’s tractor, which was already turning away from the roadblock, missing the boy’s head by an inch (Gateway Pundit reported). Jouke and two other protestors were arrested on suspicion of “attempted manslaughter” after which an angry crowd gathered in front of the police station in Leeuwarden. All three have now been released without charges.
A farmer in Leeuwarden told Canadian journalist Keean Bexte that the Rutte government had “created a climate where the police think they can shoot.” Dutch farmers are being dispossessed and committing suicide, the protester said, while China, for example, fails to meet any environmental regulations.
Protestors charged that undercover police officers from so-called ROMEO units are infiltrating demonstrations and fueling violence, as videos on Twitter document, similar to the Jan. 6 Ray Epps operation:
Opposition leader Geert Wilders published a letter from the provincial government of Flevoland, stating that the government will set up “a registration center for asylum seekers” on agricultural land expropriated by nitrogen laws.

| I was just telling one of my daughters about my college days, when one of my professors expected us to buy our books at a store called Revolution Books. That place had portraits of Mao and the usual list of mass murderers hanging on the walls. Oh, those deaths weren’t the communists’ fault! Those people died because of bad weather! (Ain’t it funny how much bad weather there is in communist countries?) A few years ago I was delighted to read a column by Pierre Yared, a professor at — of all places — Columbia Business School, who had studied the agricultural and demographic record of the period of mass death in Maoist China, and who said we should pay no attention to leftist excuse-making. First, chuck the “bad weather” excuse. China’s food production was three times what would have been necessary to feed everyone. And second, China did not lack an effective food-distribution network, as has been claimed. Could the famine have been avoided? Yared answered: Perhaps — if the Communists hadn’t outlawed agricultural markets. In a market system, any local food shortage would result in higher food prices, inducing those with a surplus to direct resources toward those with a deficit. Indeed, according to historical accounts, Communist Party members, who could engage in black-market transactions with impunity, escaped the worst hunger. As for people who celebrated communism one the one hundredth anniversary of the Russian Revolution, they “should be honest about its deadly track record, rooted in a set of failed ideas — such as abandoning free markets and relying on government bureaucrats to distribute resources, thus making entire societies vulnerable to the effects of even small human errors.” As I’ve mentioned over the past few days, the next course we’ll be adding to our collection of on-demand courses (we have 28 so far) at Liberty Classroom, my dashboard university, will be on the crimes of communism. Talk about history they didn’t teach you! As with all our other courses, you’ll be able to consume it any time of day or night. If you’re like me, you were a victim of educational malpractice. Here’s your chance to put things right. In honor of that upcoming course, I’m having a flash sale: take a full 50% off our master (lifetime) membership when you use coupon code communism (but the offer expires at midnight tonight): http://www.LibertyClassroom.com Tom Woods |
