Maddow Meltdown: In Defense To OAN Lawsuit, Host Argues Her Words Are Not Facts | Zero Hedge

Posted by M. C. on December 29, 2019

Except Maddow, likely still upset from spending 3 years trying to promulgate a Russian hoax that didn’t exist, didn’t quite get her facts straight. Big surprise.

Maddow is tops in cable news ratings. Tells you why the sheeple are in the state they are in.

Just another liar in a giant nest of liars.

https://www.zerohedge.com/commodities/maddow-meltdown-defense-oan-lawsuit-host-argues-her-words-are-not-facts

Back in September, we reported that TV network OAN had filed a lawsuit against Rachel Maddow for the time the host said that OAN “really, literally is paid Russian propaganda.”

Now, Maddow finds herself having to come up with a defense for her statement in court. And she has also apparently hired Lionel Hutz as her legal adviser.

According to Culttture, her lawyers argued in a recent motion that “…the liberal host was clearly offering up her ‘own unique expression’ of her views to capture what she saw as the ‘ridiculous’ nature of the undisputed facts. Her comment, therefore, is a quintessential statement ‘of rhetorical hyperbole, incapable of being proved true or false.”

Oh, it’s capable of being proved false, alright. Maddow had previously claimed, on air, about one of OAN’s reporters:

“In this case, the most obsequiously pro-Trump right wing news outlet in America is really literally is paid Russian propaganda,” and added, “Their on-air politics reporter (Kristian Rouz) is paid by the Russian government to produce propaganda for that government.”

The testimony of UC Santa Barbara linguistics professor Stefan Thomas Gries, however, stands at odds with Maddow’s defense. Gries said: “It is very unlikely that an average or reasonable/ordinary viewer would consider the sentence in question to be a statement of opinion.”

Gries continued:  “I am the second most widely-cited cognitive linguist and sixth most widely-cited living corpus linguist. The field of cognitive linguistics draws from both linguistics and psychology and studies how language interacts with cognition.”

OAN had filed the defamation suit in federal court in San Diego, according to AP. OAN is a small, family owned conservative network that is based in San Diego and has received favorable Tweets from the President. It is seen as a competitor to Fox News.

OAN’s lawsuit claims that Maddow’s comments were retaliation after OAN President Charles Herring accused Comcast of censorship. The suit said that Comcast refuses to carry its channel because “counters the liberal politics of Comcast’s own news channel, MSNBC.”

It was about a week after Herring e-mailed a Comcast executive when Maddow opened her show by referring to a Daily Beast report that claimed an OAN employee also worked for Sputnik News, which has ties to the Russian government.

Maddow said: “In this case, the most obsequiously pro-Trump right-wing news outlet in America really literally is paid Russian propaganda. Their on-air U.S. politics reporter is paid by the Russian government to produce propaganda for that government.”

Except Maddow, likely still upset from spending 3 years trying to promulgate a Russian hoax that didn’t exist, didn’t quite get her facts straight. Big surprise.

‘Former Trump Voter’ Spotlighted In Democratic Ad Campaign Caught Lying; Didn’t Actually Vote In 2016 | Zero Hedge

Posted by M. C. on December 29, 2019

My Town – The Liar’s Lair

https://www.zerohedge.com/political/former-trump-voter-spotlighted-democratic-ad-campaign-caught-lying-didnt-actually-vote

A Pennsylvania man featured in a $3 million advertising campaign by Democratic ‘nerd virgin‘ commander David Brock’s Super PAC was found to be a total liar, after he feigned regret over voting for Donald Trump in 2016.

“I voted for Donald Trump in 2016 because I thought he would make a change,” claimed Mark Graham, a registered Republican who lives in Erie, PA.

“Did he make a change?” asks Brock’s virgin, off camera.

“Not for the good!” Graham replied.

“If I could go back in time, I would tell myself to beware the changes that President Trump has made.”

“Voting for Donald Trump in 2020 would be like putting gasoline on a fire.”

Except Mark was full of shit. An investigation by local news outlet JET 24 action’s Chelsey Withers (as she reports in YourEerie) revealed that Mark didn’t vote at all in 2016, much less for Donald Trump.

And according to PennLive, Mark’s lie caused the New York Times to issue corrections in two stories about swing voters and disaffected Trump supporters…

Graham told Eerie News that he became involved with American Bridge through a 2018 focus group by Democratic Congressional Candidate Ron DiNicola.

Graham said the focus group was comprised of local Republicans who supported DiNicola’s run for Congress. Former Erie County Director of Administration [G]erry Mifsud was working with DiNicola.

“I sat through this focus group and a New York Times reporter had sought out [G]erry. How he got Jerry I don’t know.  Maybe it was DiNicola.  Maybe it was the Democratic Party,” Graham said.

The reporter wanted to do a story on President Trump’s popularity in Erie.  He asked the focus group how they felt about the president. –Eerie News Now

“That’s when I told him ‘It’s like if you re-elect this guy it’s like throwing gasoline on a fire.’ I just made it up.  He said, ‘I like that.  I’m going to use that,’ Graham told the outlet.

Venezuela’s currency: Worth more as craft paper than as money | News | Al Jazeera

Posted by M. C. on December 29, 2019

Where does all that pretty paper come from? Printing presses.

You know, like what the Fed does.

Santa Marta, Colombia – Along the cobblestoned streets of the coastal city of Santa Marta, demand for bolivares from Venezuela is skyrocketing, but not for the bills’ monetary value.

Instead of using his homeland’s money to pay for daily essentials in his native country, Venezuelan immigrant Hector Cordero weaves the currency into wallets and purses, which he sells to tourists in Colombia. His artful crafts underscore the creative methods that Venezuelans are using to extract value from a currency that – amid skyrocketing inflation – many consider worthless.

“These bolivares soberanos notes are worth nothing,” Cordero, who is from Caracas, told Al Jazeera. “The notes I use are not circulating any more since last year.”

Cordero uses about 70 notes of 100 bolivares each to handcraft a small coin purse, or 100 of the notes to make a larger wallet. A handbag can take up to 1,200 notes to produce. All in all, the artist incorporates 16 different denominations of Venezuelan currency into his crafts, many of them the discontinued bolivares soberanos.

Cordero sells wallets made from hundreds or even thousands of bills of the now valueless currency for about $8; the handbags go for about $12. He says most of his clients are European and North American tourists – people who want to take home a piece of what was once one of the strongest economies in South America.

He learned his technique by watching others in the streets of Caracas and by studying dozens of YouTube tutorials uploaded by fellow Venezuelans to teach people how to make what has become known as origami venezolano.

“When I run out of bolivares, my brother goes to Venezuela and brings more notes,” Cordero said. “People have a lot of these notes and we buy them. We give them what they ask for.” He explained that people in Venezuela exchange unworthy bolivares by the weight for other forms of currency – usually United States dollars – or for food. People also make the swap for high-denomination bolivares – bills that still hold some dwindling value. The crafts help Cordero and his family get by in their temporary home in Colombia, but he dreams of returning to Venezuela some day…

EconomicPolicyJournal.com: Washington Post: “The economists are right: Rent control is bad”

Posted by M. C. on December 29, 2019

“In many cases, rent control appears to be the most efficient technique presently known to destroy a city—except for bombing.”–Swedish economist Assar Lindbeck.

https://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2019/12/washington-post-economists-are-right.html

Wow, as the year ends, some serious progress in the form of sound basic economics out of the Washington Post:

From the Editorial Board:

RENT CONTROL is back. Economists have long criticized government price controls on apartments, a concept that had its first moment in the 1920s and that some cities reintroduced in a modified form in the 1970s. Now, decades later, California and Oregon are moving forward with statewide rent-control laws. Meanwhile, presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) has made a national rent-control standard the centerpiece of his sprawling new housing plan.

The economists are right, and the populists are wrong. Rent-control laws can be good for some privileged beneficiaries, who are often not the people who really need help. But they are bad for many others…

Research also indicates that landlords have less incentive to maintain their properties in a rent-controlled environment. Governments can impose maintenance requirements on landlords — but they are tough to enforce. Depending on how the policy is designed, stiff rent-control policies with few exceptions could also discourage investors from building new homes, which would also constrain rental unit supply. And since rent-stabilization policies often tend to discourage people from moving, they harm worker mobility and the economic dynamism associated with it.

I mean they sound like F.A. Hayek and Walter Block  (See: Rent Control: Myths and Realities–International Evidence of the Effects of Rent Control in Six Countries).

“In many cases, rent control appears to be the most efficient technique presently known to destroy a city—except for bombing.”–Swedish economist Assar Lindbeck.

Why Should Serious People Take Such Reporting Seriously? – Cafe Hayek

Posted by M. C. on December 29, 2019

https://cafehayek.com/2019/12/why-should-serious-people-take-such-reporting-seriously.html

by Don Boudreaux

Here’s a letter to the Program Director of NPR’s Here & Now:

Sir or Madam:

Your segment today on climate change unwittingly offers reasons why so many people not on the political left remain skeptical of entrusting governments with more power to regulate in the name of protecting the environment. Almost every second of this segment’s nine-plus minutes portrayed life today as ghastly, treacherous, and destined only to get more hellish. Yet reality is very different.

Your reporting would be more credible if you at least acknowledged such facts as these – facts that uninformed members of your audience would be shocked to learn:

– Global death-rates from natural disasters have fallen dramatically. This rate is today 1/14th what it was a century ago and ½ what it was a half-century ago.

– The proportion of the world’s population with access to clean water is at an all-time high.

– The risk of dying from air pollution is at an all-time low. (Ditto the risk of dying of famine.)

– Life expectancy today continues to rise and is at an all-time high; today it’s much more than twice what it was before the industrial revolution. This happy trend is due in part to the fact that…

– Child mortality is at an all-time low. (Ditto for the maternal mortality rate.)

– People worldwide are better educated.

These and many other positive trends in human well-being are the direct consequence of economic growth – most of which is spawned by free markets and powered by carbon fuels. Your apparent blindness to this reality casts doubt, if not on your objectivity, certainly on your sense of historical perspective. (I laughed out loud when host Jeremy Hobson – talking about Europeans who today suffer from heat waves – said that “Many people don’t have air-conditioning because, over the course of centuries, they haven’t needed it.” In reality, of course, pre-20th-century Europeans didn’t have air-conditioning because innovative free markets hadn’t yet made it possible.)

The general public would surely pay more attention to climate reporting if programs such as yours were to substitute realism for incessant apocalypticism.

Sincerely,

Ivanka to Talk Lefty Labor and Education Points in Keynote at Vegas Consumer Electronics Convention

Ivanka Trump

Ivanka Trump will be on the CES 2020 keynote stage next month in Las Vegas.

She will join a keynote discussion on jobs and the future of work with Gary Shapiro, president and CEO of the Consumer Technology Assn., which produces CES. The talk is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. PT in the Venetian’s Palazzo Ballroom.

Of course, it is going to be all about putting restrictions on business-employee relationships by having the government dictate some of the terms and expand government spending on various education programs.

Trump and Shapiro will discuss “employer-led strategies to reskill workers, create apprenticeships and develop K-12 STEM education programs,” according to the CTA.

She is about power, not free markets.

She is worse than her father.

Media Elites to Assange: Fight for Your Own Hide

Posted by M. C. on December 28, 2019

Who is betraying who?

https://www.theamericanconservative.com/articles/media-elites-to-assange-fight-for-your-own-hide/

The Committee to Protect Journalists mimics the government and drops the jailed Wikileaks founder like a hot potato.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange languishes in a British prison awaiting probable extradition to the United States to stand trial for violating the Espionage Act of 1917. Ironically, he is serving jail time for jumping bail on trumped-up sex crime charges in Sweden that even the Swedish government has now abandoned. Most Western, especially American, mainstream journalists, though, have expressed at most tepid opposition to the persecution of Assange, even as reports mount that his health has deteriorated to an alarming extent.

This is shameful and jeopardizes the news media’s own long-term interests.

The worst thing about such conduct is that so many reporters have bought into the Justice Department’s insistence that Assange is not a “legitimate” journalist. John Demers, the DOJ’s assistant attorney general for national security, bluntly stated the government’s thesis earlier this year. “Julian Assange,” Demers said, “is no journalist,” since he engaged in “explicit solicitation of classified information.”…

Government prosecutors are going after Assange because he is an especially controversial figure and therefore a more vulnerable target. But prosecuting him and WikiLeaks for espionage poses a mortal threat to a free and independent press in the United States. It is extraordinarily dangerous to the health of the First Amendment to allow the government to decide who is or is not a “legitimate” journalist. Only legacy publications friendly to the national security bureaucracy could then count on restraint—and, as the Rosen and Risen cases indicate, even that expectation would be quite fragile. The CPJ and other media institutions that choose to abandon Assange are playing the role of the government’s useful idiots and imperiling their own best interests.

Despite Media Hype, No ‘Surprise’ From North Korea – News From Antiwar.com

Posted by M. C. on December 28, 2019

Despite never happening, the expectation of North Korean action was so great that media outlets are still referring to it as the “North Korean threat” days after nothing happened, seemingly unable to accept that there was no missile launch or anything else.

Carpal Tunnel threat: Working the media sock puppet.

https://news.antiwar.com/2019/12/27/despite-media-hype-no-surprise-from-north-korea/

US media outlets spent well over a week hyping up a “Christmas gift” from North Korea to the point that it was considered a foregone conclusion that they were going to do something provocative.

Those reports got to such a frenzy that the US military was talked into taking direct action, sending four surveillance planes over the Korean Peninsula. This was described by sources as an unusual action, and a “response” to the putative threat.

From North Korea’s perspective, however, these additional planes in the air look an awful lot like provocation. Instead of North Korea provoking anything, it was ultimately the US risking the calm on the peninsula.

The lesson here would be to not overreact to speculation that North Korea might do something, which was based on off-hand comments in state media. Optimally, the US would not preemptively react to things that may or may not happen with risky operations of their own.

Despite never happening, the expectation of North Korean action was so great that media outlets are still referring to it as the “North Korean threat” days after nothing happened, seemingly unable to accept that there was no missile launch or anything else.

Profile of a CIA-funded vaccine propagandist: Lena Sun at the Washington Post attacks natural health pioneers while pimping deadly vaccines – NaturalNews.com

Posted by M. C. on December 28, 2019

Will Amazon’s Alexa give you a(n expensive) drug recommendation? It should. It listens to everything you say.

Democracy Dies in Darkness – Washington Post motto.  Thanks to WaPo you will too.

https://www.naturalnews.com/2019-12-27-cia-funded-vaccine-propagandist-lena-sun-at-the-washington-post-pimping-deadly-vaccines.html

(Natural News) The Washington Post is a CIA front, owned by Jeff Bezos, founder of Amazon.com, who also built much of the CIA’s “private cloud” data processing infrastructure after winning a $600 million contract from the agency in 2013. In the years since, the Washington Post has functioned as pure propaganda, pushing fake “Russia hoax” news, smearing Trump administration officials and promoting the lies of deep state criminals like John Brennan and James Comey who are still trying to pull off an illegal political coup.

“The corporate media serve the function of manufacturing consent for government policy by systematically lying to the public about what science tells us about the safety and effectiveness of vaccines,” writes health policy analyst Jeremy R. Hammond on his website.

CIA-funded Amazon.com is quietly turning into a pharmaceutical retailer

But the Washington Post’s malicious propaganda and lies don’t end with geopolitics: They’re also in bed with Big Pharma, pushing the vaccine industry’s talking points while smearing all the pioneers of natural health and health freedom. That’s because Jeff Bezos is quietly turning Amazon.com into a pharmaceutical company, having already purchased one online pharmacy company for $1 billion while rapidly expanding its state pharmacy licenses to be able to retail prescription drugs across America.

According to media reports, Amazon believes it could earn $50 billion a year selling prescription drugs, and it has hired a team of drug industry experts in preparation for launching nationwide prescription medication retail operations.

100% organic essential oil sets now available for your home and personal care, including Rosemary, Oregano, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Clary Sage and more, all 100% organic and laboratory tested for safety. A multitude of uses, from stress reduction to topical first aid. See the complete listing here, and help support this news site.

But to maximize its drug profits, Jeff Bezos needed a way to suppress the sales of nutritional supplements and natural health products that keep people healthy. After all, healthy people don’t need prescription drugs, and Amazon’s Big Pharma profit model relies on keeping people popping medication pills every day for the rest of their (miserable) lives.

Jeff Bezos uses the Washington Post as a weapon to attack the natural health industry

The Bezos solution? Unleash propagandists like Lena Sun at the Washington Post to smear natural health pioneers like Dr. Mercola, claiming natural health supplements are “un-approved by the FDA.” (Because they’re not drugs, so of course they’re not approved as drugs.)

Lena Sun is, essentially, the “vaccine deep state” propagandist for the CIA front known as the Washington Post, a malicious, anti-America, anti-health, anti-human disinformation rag run by spooks and truly evil people who want the worst for America. These people not only want to see America overrun by illegal immigrants via open borders policies, they want all Americans to stay sick enough to need prescription medications from Amazon.com, which will be announcing a nationwide drug retail operation very soon.

To keep people sick, malicious anti-journalists like Lena Sun have to lie about the safety of vaccines as a way to convince people to keep taking the very shots that spread infectious disease and contaminate their bodies with aluminum, mercury, squalene and other toxic chemicals that are deliberately formulated into vaccines. So Lena Sun, obviously under orders from the vaccine deep state, falsely writes that all vaccines are safety tested against the entire childhood vaccination schedule before being released. It’s an outright lie, of course, and she refuses to retract it, but that’s how the CIA rolls: just gaslight everybody while demanding anyone who questioned your lies be silenced or discredited.

If you see this woman on the street near D.C., hide your children because she wants them to be maimed with medical violence in the form of vaccines:
