Ann Coulter Is Wrong – LewRockwell

If you restrict your notion of speech to what is said over CNN or other branded sites, you may panic at not hearing the views you consider true; but they are by no means the universe of discourse. Anyone who wants to hear or locate opinions or analyses that satisfy them can find them, or can invent them.

Ann Coulter says

“We need to apply the First Amendment to social media companies like Twitter, Facebook, and Google, because it is a public square, and there is precedent for that and it’s gotta be done…”

I present arguments against her suggestion. I realize fully that these companies have important connections to government including contracts, data sharing and products being developed that further the surveillance state. My argument against Coulter’s suggestion is pertinent to speech, which was her concern, not these other links. Read the rest of this entry »

Ann Coulter: Sarah Jeong Better Drive Carefully!

But the federal “hate crimes” statute allows the feds to skirt the Constitution’s ban on double jeopardy — at least for certain kinds of “hate.”

“Hate crime” laws are nothing more than politicians trying to make you think they are doing something constructive. It’s either a crime or it hasn’t.

A prosecutors job hangs on getting convictions. Trying twice for the same crime can keep the conviction rate up.

To paraphrase Mae West on diamonds-guilt has nothing to do with it.

It turns out that hating the wrong people is a far graver crime than murder. (And hating the right people gets you a job at the Times!)

If you’re worried about the social media monopolies censoring speech, just be happy they can’t put you in prison.

Federal prosecutors are celebrating the one-year anniversary of the Charlottesville, Virginia, “Unite the Right” rally — isn’t this the “paper” anniversary? — by indicting James Fields for “hate.”

Fields has already been charged with murder in state court. (I would think that “hate” would be subsumed by a murder charge.) Read the rest of this entry »

The G.K. Chesterton of our time, Joe could deliver a knockout punch with a single line. Many of his aphorisms were so catchy that everyone repeats them now without realizing their provenance.

My friend Joe Sobran died last Thursday, and the world lost its greatest writer.

It was Joe who came up with the apocryphal New York Timesheadline: “New York Destroyed by Earthquake; Women and Minorities Hit Hardest.”

Waffling Ann Coulter Tells Trump Not to Waffle on the Wall

When she backed out of her speech at Berkeley, I realized that she really does not understand politics. This was a tremendous opportunity to embarrass the far-Left crazies. I wrote about this in March. The best possible tactic that a conservative can use against the Left today is to let these crazy people act just as crazy as they are willing to act. The public is fed up. The more we can show that these people are off-the-wall whining nut cases, the better it is for the conservative movement. She has not figured this out. If you can’t figure this out, you don’t understand politics. You surely don’t understand strategy.
I thought the same thing. Coulter should go to Berkeley just so the Soros funded violence mongers could show the world what their rainbow colors were really all about. 

It would take some courage to face possible harm. Coulter didn’t have it. I was disappointed.
