Berlin To Vote On Confiscating Rental Properties From Corporations | ZeroHedge

Posted by M. C. on August 11, 2021

Perhaps not too surprising since Berlin was long the capital of the communist version of Germany, it is still a striking observation that half of the population in one of Europe’s most influential cities is planning to do away with private property – maybe not entirely at first, but once you start expropriating apartments under the pretext of “the greater good” you will never stop.

In a time when ultra-left progressives, socialists and liberals across the US are quietly gathering in corners and testing the public mood with suggestions that the next logical step in the US transformation to a socialist utopia is expropriation of assets, Germany is actively moving toward seizing (read confiscating) rental properties from corporate landlords to provide housing to provide cheap (or free) housing to the masses, and it has Lorena Jonas to thank for this sharp turn to the left.

Jonas – a generously tattooed “goth” resident of Germany’s capital  – has spent the past eight years fighting landlord rent rises in her trendy Berlin district but as the FT reports, her latest battle will affect not just her neighbors but hundreds of thousands of tenants across the city, and potentially impact landlord-tenant relationships across the globe.

Jonas has been involved in a radical campaign urging Berlin’s city government to expropriate 240,000 properties from Germany’s biggest publicly listed residential landlords, accusing them of squeezing out lower income, long-term residents through shoddy maintenance and jacked-up rents.

She is hardly alone: having collected more than 350,000 petition signatures, their proposal which targets corporate landlords with more than 3,000 apartments each, will be voted on in a local referendum in September. Amazingly, polls suggest nearly half of Berliners support expropriation, which would force the companies to sell their properties to the city government at a “fair” price.

“What does it mean that my flat is now a commodity on the stock market, where the goal is to draw as much profit as possible for shareholders?” said Jonas, who lives in a property in Kreuzberg owned by Berlin’s biggest listed landlord Deutsche Wohnen, the main target of the campaign. “These questions are now resonating across Berlin, and beyond.”

Well, what it means is that apartments exist. If developers knew ahead of time that assets which they invested billions to develop would be taken away on a whim – i.e., socialism – they would never have been built leading to a far more dire result.

Alas, having learned nothing from the tragic lessons of the past, Berliners are pushing on and bracing for a fight with Germany biggest corporate landlords. Although small compared with the vast US publicly listed residential sector, corporate landlords such as DW are on the rise across Europe, as the world’s biggest property investors hunt for the stable income which the rental business can provide. As a result, the market capitalization of Europe’s publicly listed residential property sector has grown from €3.5bn in 2006 to nearly €85bn at the end of July this year, according to the European Public Real Estate Association.

Maybe – just maybe – all these disgruntled renters should take a detour to Frankfurt where the ECB has enabled this unprecedented housing bubble across Europe. But alas, when it comes to figuring out cause and effect, central banks are somehow completely untouchable, as if the broader population has some allergy to conceptualizing what printing money as a business model entails.

In any case, back to Germany where more than half of Germans rent their homes – the second highest rate among OECD countries – and as house prices rise around the world courtesy of central bank bubble-blowing making home ownership less affordable, the ranks of renters are swelling elsewhere too. Across the EU nearly a quarter of households lived in market-priced rented accommodation in 2019, the latest figures available, according to Eurostat.

And so, unable to overhaul a monetary system that is broken at its core, the local are taking the easy if suicidal way out:

“Unless we find some mechanism of continuing to transfer property from landlords to tenants [via home ownership] . . . you get a more unequal society split between the people with equity in housing and those without,” said Yolande Barnes, a professor at University College London’s Bartlett Real Estate Institute.

She is of course describing a core tenet of Marxism. If only she could tell us how every single Marxist experiment in human history has ended.

The good news it so far few cities have proposed measures as radical as those in Berlin’s September ballot. But many face similar problems: companies and entrepreneurs buying up and renovating old properties, then selling off units at lucrative mark-ups.

Then again, that the latest socialist revolution is starting in Berlin is probably not a surprise: once known for anarchist squatters’ communes and freewheeling techno clubs, the city has become an attractive investment. Existing buildings’ rents have shot up by as much as 43% over the past five years, making it increasingly unaffordable for the 86% of Berliners who rent.

Furthermore, nearly 125,000 of the city’s rental units were converted into owner-occupied homes between 2011 and 2020, according to recently published estimates by Berlin’s senate, further shrinking the market, as buyers – their bank accounts swollen thanks to central bank generosity – went on a buying spree. Last year was the biggest yet: 19,310 units vanished from the rental market.

But how is this Marxist proposition even possible in a “western” city? Simple: as the FT explains, the expropriation initiative is based on Article 15 of the German constitution, which says “land, natural resources, and means of production” can be reclaimed for public ownership, in exchange for compensation; of course, it has never before been tested in practice.

Media Blackout: Massive Gathering In Germany As RFK Jr. Exposes Bill Gates & Big Pharma – Collective Evolution

Posted by M. C. on September 2, 2020

Why This Is Important: The number of activists from all walks of life, from all professions, including thousands of doctors and scientists who have been questioning actions that have been and are being taken by governments around the world for a long time is quite large and continues to grow.

I must have missed the Erie Times-News coverage.

https://www.collective-evolution.com/2020/08/31/media-blackout-massive-gathering-in-germany-as-rfk-jr-exposes-bill-gates-big-pharma/

In Brief

  • The Facts:Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently spoke in Berlin, Germany, where a total of more than 1 million people, according to him, gathered at multiple venues over the duration of the event. He spoke about digital and medical government totalitarianism.
  • Reflect On:Do we really live in a democracy when so many people across the world are being censored and completely ignored by mainstream media for sharing legitimate concerns about what’s happening on our planet?

What Happened: Children’s Health Defense Director and renowned lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. recently spoke to a very large crowd in Berlin, Germany in what was a gathering of of tens of thousands of people who came together to create awareness and protest against what Kennedy referred to as Bill Gates’ “bio-security agenda, the rise of the authoritarian surveillance state and the Big Pharma sponsored coup d’etat against liberal democracy.”  According to Kennedy, and many others around the globe, “the pandemic is a crisis of convenience for the elite who are dictating these policies…Fifty years ago, my uncle John F. Kennedy came to this city. He came to this land, because Berlin was the frontline against global totalitarianism. And today again, Berlin is the frontline against global totalitarianism.” We also published an article written by Kennedy a couple of years ago that also provides more about Gates’ relationship with big pharma.

It’s hard to really know how many people showed up, but judging by the pictures it seems like a lot were in attendance. Mainstream media completely ignored the gathering. According to Kennedy, “This was one of 40 sites scattered around Berlin where where some 1.5 million people gathered around separate stages to evade police harassment and peacefully protest the alarming global rise of Medical & Digital Totalitarianism.”

If mainstream media covered a gathering of one thousand, they could make it a big spectacle and make it seem as the “majority” feel a certain way. When they don’t cover something that threatens their and their partners interests, which in this case is big pharma, they can make it seem like it never happened, no matter how big the gathering is. Mainstream media can make it seem as if the majority is the minority, and the minority is the majority.

Bill Gates has also recently been dubbed the ‘journalism gatekeeper.’ Not only does he practically own the WHO and Big Pharma, the same goes for mainstream media.

A recent Instagram post made by Kennedy expresses his feelings about the event, and the resistance the gatherings faced:

Beneath the Siegesäule Monument where I spoke. This was one of 40 sites scattered around Berlin where where some 1.5 million people gathered around separate stages to evade police harassment and peacefully protest the alarming global rise of Medical & Digital Totalitarianism. As I said in my speech, the government strategy is to portray the protestors as right wing extremists or “Covid Deniers”(a euphemism, in the official narrative for Holocaust deniers) none of which is true. The government issued three proclamations declaring the protest illegal. Our Rapid Response team of lawyers successfully appealed each of these declarations in court. The Pharma-controlled main stream media blacked out all coverage the main event altogether-ignoring what were perhaps the largest crowds in German history. No main stream media covered this momentous gathering. The only media reports claimed only 38,000 people & showed clips of a staged incident where 100 riot police colluded in a false flag show with some 50 agents provocateurs in Nazi regalia near the Reichtag miles from our protest. The obsequious Pharmedia dutifully conflated that phony fascist Kabuki play with our peaceful democratic event to claim we were allied with violent far right extremists 6)World Futbol champion (1990)Thomas Bartholdi and his wife Britta Protest 7)German National Team Basketball Star Joshiko Saibou and Olympic long jump champion Alexandra Westore. 8)Organizer Attorney Marcus Haintz and program moderator Nana from Ghana. KP

Below is a brief clip of him speaking I found on YouTube.

Why This Is Important: The number of activists from all walks of life, from all professions, including thousands of doctors and scientists who have been questioning actions that have been and are being taken by governments around the world for a long time is quite large and continues to grow. Speaking of Germany, for example, More than 500 German doctors & scientists have signed on as representatives of an organization called the “Corona Extra-Parliamentary Inquiry Committee” to investigate what’s happening on our planet with regards to COVID-19. They also believe that the measures and actions being taken by governments worldwide represent a draconian totalitarian agenda that’s continuing to play out under the guise of goodwill. These are actions that are completely unnecessary, unscientific and even harmful according to them and many others.

“The medical profession is being bought by the pharmaceutical industry, not only in terms of the practice of medicine, but also in terms of teaching and research. The academic institutions of this country are allowing themselves to be the paid agents of the pharmaceutical industry. I think it’s disgraceful.”

– Arnold Seymour Relman (1923-2014), Harvard professor of medicine and former Editor-in-Chief of The New England Medical Journal  (source)

A couple of years ago, Kennedy explained the power big pharma has in the United States, let alone the world:

Those of you who have been involved in the past in the battle to protect our children from poorly made vaccines or toxic chemicals in our food or in our water know the power of these industries and how they’ve undermined every institution in our democracy that is supposed to protect little children from powerful, greedy corporations. Even the pharmaceutical companies have been able to purchase congress. They’re the largest lobbying entity in Washington D.C.. They have more lobbyists in Washington D.C. than there are congressman and senators combined. They give twice to congress what the next largest lobbying entity is, which is oil and gas… Imagine the power they exercise over both republicans and democrats. They’ve captured them (our regulatory agencies) and turned them into sock puppets. They’ve compromised the press… and they destroy the publications that publish real science. (source)

The question is, why are so many people who share these opinions completely censored? Even when there are thousands of them, when it comes to covid the list of renowned doctors and scientists is quite long.

As authoritarianism spreads, as emergency laws proliferate, as we sacrifice our rights, we also sacrifice our capability to arrest the slide into a less liberal and less free world. Do you truly believe that when the first wave, this second wave, the 16th wave of the coronavirus is a long forgotten memory, that these capabilities will not be kept? – Edward Snowden (source)

I’ve written numerous articles expressing the feelings, opinions, research and data of many explaining why lockdown measures and more for covid seem quite ridiculous. Here’s one of many that goes into the infection fatality rate, for example, the article linked above with regards to the more than 500 German doctors and scientist is another example. To read more of our coverage throughout this pandemic, you can click here.

The Takeaway: Why is there a digital authoritarian Orwellian “fact-checker” going around the internet that is censoring information that’s clearly not false? Why are they censoring information that doesn’t fit the narrative of the World Health Organization (WHO). Why are the leaked documents from Wikileaks showing the influence that Big Pharma has within the WHO completely ignored? Why does mainstream media constantly use ridicule, character assassination and words like “conspiracy theory” instead of actually addressing and countering the points being made by so many doctors, scientists and activists? Why can’t we have these discussions openly and transparently? What is going on here?

Our world is going through a massive shift in consciousness, and the COVID-19 pandemic has and is serving as a catalyst for more and more people to start questioning exactly what is going on here instead of simply believing what they are hearing and seeing on their television screens. This questioning and critical inquiry results in a perception shift, and the world people once thought was becomes something completely different. Not everything is as we’ve been told and taught, and in order to change things for the better we have to be able to identify and see the problem. This is exactly the process we are going through, and the more we ‘wake up’ the more effort there is from those who are threatened by our ‘awakening’ to silence and control us.

We are living in exciting times! It’s great to see an event like covid spark such a massive gathering of people who desire a better and more transparent world for all. We saw similar things after 9/11.

How U.S. Foreign Policy Can Help Defeat Coronavirus | The National Interest

Posted by M. C. on March 27, 2020

U.S. foreign policy can help defeat the novel coronavirus if our government is willing to foster positive international relations and abandon pointless conflicts that sap our strength.

by Bonnie Kristian

Sen. Tom Cotton’s statement on the novel coronavirus pandemic started with the standard encouragement we expect from public officials in times of crisis. “I have every confidence America will once again marshal the resolve, toughness, and genius of our people to overcome [this] serious threat to our health and well-being,” he said. But then the Arkansas senator continued, saying “we will hold accountable those who inflicted it on the world.” Shortly thereafter, responding to a tweet which interpreted the line to mean “China will pay for this,” Cotton simply wrote, “Correct.”

What sort of retaliation Cotton has in mind isn’t clear—though his reckless, military-first foreign policy record suggests troubling possibilities. But whatever Cotton’s agenda, a posture of international antagonism is exactly the wrong idea in a moment like this. U.S. foreign policy can help us face and overcome COVID-19 if our government is willing to engage in productive, realistic diplomacy instead of aggression and to stop wasting limited resources on useless overseas adventurism which fosters chaos abroad and does nothing for our security at home. Now is the time for cooperation and peace.

Voices across the political spectrum have urged an end to partisan blaming and shaming in our domestic coronavirus response, but Washington should stop trying to score political points over the crisis in foreign policy, too. Trump administration officials and congressional leaders who insist on adding criticism of China to every public comment on COVID-19 are not benefiting public health. A defensive and angry Beijing is less likely to share literally vital information with us and more likely to pump out anti-American propaganda. Escalating U.S.-Chinese tension is dangerous for ordinary people in both countries, even if it never reaches the point of military conflict.

“A lot of these emotional and punishment policies will over time come back to bite us,” Paul Haenle, who worked with China as a former National Security Council official in the George W. Bush and Barack Obama administrations, told Politico. “It is in the United States’ interests to prevent the epidemic from becoming a global pandemic,” Haenle argued in a recent essay. “Especially during this uncertain and challenging time for the bilateral relationship, it is vital that channels of communication stay wide open and that the United States puts its best foot forward.”

That’s certainly the case with China, but it’s also important where our European allies are concerned. Strong historic ties can fray or even break if good diplomatic relationships are not maintained under such duress. President Trump’s reported attempt—confirmed by Berlin—to buy exclusive access to a German company’s developing COVID-19 vaccine for American use only was a ghastly and unethical misstep. Germans are predictably furious that Trump would try to exclude them from vaccine access, particularly as the company in question intends to produce the vaccine “for the whole world, not for individual countries.” This is the kind of unforced error that can and must be avoided going forward.

Just as crucial as these diplomatic measures are re-prioritizing our use of limited resources. Nearly two decades of war in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and elsewhere in the Middle East and North Africa have been costly, counterproductive, and deadly for American troops and innocent local populations alike. It was unwise to continue fighting these endless wars before the novel coronavirus appeared. Now, this interventionist foreign policy is a “luxury” we cannot afford. Washington must exit these conflicts immediately and allow local political processes to negotiate sustainable resolutions that account for the unique cultural and religious factors in play. Wasting precious resources on needless wars in a time of pandemic is truly indefensible.

Fears about the effects of COVID-19 may prompt some in Washington to want to lash out at other nations, whether through rhetorical, economic, or military means. An emotional reaction in such a troubling time is understandable, yet it will only make matters worse. U.S. foreign policy can help defeat the novel coronavirus if our government is willing to foster positive international relations and abandon pointless conflicts that sap our strength.
