Due Process or Transgender Protection on Campus? | Mises Wire

Posted by M. C. on May 2, 2023

People who oppose due process are opposing common decency in the legal treatment of others. With bitter irony, they do so in the name of protecting the vulnerable—in this case, the gender identified. Anyone who needs protection against common decency and truth is not pursuing justice. They want privilege and power. If the voice of reason can still be heard, people need to hear it now.

College campuses have long been battlegrounds between due process for those accused of sexual misconduct (innocent until proven guilty) and legal privileges for alleged victims who many automatically believe (guilty until proven innocent).

The front line is Title IX, the 1972 federal law designed to curb sex discrimination in schools. President Joe Biden’s Department of Education (DOE) wants to add gender identity to the mix. The players in this renewed conflict are Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana, who has introduced a bill to champion due process rights on campus, and Biden’s DOE, who is expanding the definition of discrimination.

The specific issue addressed by the DOE is athletic eligibility. The issue is a political flash point that revolves around the question, “Should transgendered male-to-females compete in women’s sports or is their strength advantage unfair to biological females?” This article examines the competing and overlapping provisions of the draft Title IX regulation, the 2023 draft sports regulation, and Kennedy’s bill.

The Biden executive order 14021 (March 8, 2021) that sparked the current conflict is entitled “Guaranteeing an Educational Environment Free from Discrimination on the Basis of Sex, including Sexual Orientation or Gender Identity.” It is a statement of intent. On April 6, 2023, the DOE rolled out an implementation mechanism for the executive order “Proposed Change to its Title IX Regulations on Students’ Eligibility for Athletic Teams.”

The language in the 116-page document is confusing and vague, but the core of it redefines terms such as “discrimination” and favorably includes gender identity into the framework for athletic eligibility. The opening summary states that the DOE will “set out a standard that would govern a recipient’s adoption or application of sex-related criteria” that might “limit or deny a student’s eligibility to participate on a male or female athletic team consistent with their gender identity.” This regulation presumes transgendered athletes are able participate in their chosen categories unless the school identifies safety reasons to not allow this.

Backlash from progressives has been swift. The “Proposed Change” is insufficiently protrans, they claim. “These regulations specify methods schools may employ to determine a student’s sex, including invasive physical examinations,” complains the transgender journalist Erin Reed.

Moreover, the DOE document would give school districts the final say on whether injecting gender identity into athletics is problematic. Progressives react with horror. Actually, this is no issue at all. As with past DOE recommendations, schools are likely to over comply not only due to the extreme liberal bias on most campuses but also to avoid a catastrophic loss of federal funds. The “Proposed Change” makes this threat explicitly.

WILLIAMS: Youth And Ignorance

Posted by M. C. on November 7, 2022

The students’ demand that Paglia be fired fell on deaf ears. Fortunately, there are a few college presidents with guts and common sense. President David Yager is one of them. He wrote in an open letter to students: “Artists over the centuries have suffered censorship, and even persecution, for the expression of their beliefs through their work. My answer is simple: not now, not at UArts.”

Camille Paglia is a professor of humanities and media studies at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, where she has been a faculty member since 1984. Paglia describes herself as transgender, but unlike so many other transgender people, she is pro-capitalism and hostile to those who’d restrict free speech. She’s a libertarian. As to modern ideas that include “gender-inclusive pronouns” such as zie, sie and zim, Paglia says it is lunacy. In a 2017 interview, Paglia was especially irritated by the thought police running college campuses today. In defending University of Toronto professor Jordan Peterson, who has become a pariah for his refusal to cave in to nonsensical gender-inclusive pronouns, Paglia said that the English language was created by great artists such as Chaucer and Shakespeare, Wordsworth and Joyce. She added: “How dare you, you sniveling little maniac, tell us how we’re gonna use pronouns! Go take a hike.”

On feminism, Paglia criticizes what she calls the “antisex and repressively doctrinaire side of feminism.” She calls it “victim feminism” and complains that “everything we’d won in the 1990s has been totally swept away. Now we have this endless privileging of victimhood, with a pathological vulnerability seen as the default human mode.” Everyone must yield to it “in the workplace, in universities, in the demand for safe spaces.” Paglia adds, “What I am saying throughout my work is that girls who are indoctrinated to see men not as equals but as oppressors and rapists are condemned to remain in a permanently juvenile condition for life.”

Paglia’s bold statements got her in a bit of hot water last April. University of the Arts students demanded that she be fired over public comments she’d made that were not wholly sympathetic to the #MeToo movement, as well as for an interview with the Weekly Standard that they called “transphobic.” That latter denunciation is particularly slapstick, since Paglia describes herself as “transgender,” writes Tunku Varadarajan, Hoover Institution’s institutional editor, in his Aug. 30 Wall Street Journal article “A Feminist Capitalist Professor Under Fire.”

There’s another part of this story that’s particularly interesting considering today’s young peoples’ love of socialism. Paglia says that children now “are raised in a far more affluent period. Even people without much money have cellphones, televisions, and access to cars. They’re raised in an air-conditioned environment. I can still remember when there was no air-conditioning.”

Paglia says: “Everything is so easy now. The stores are so plentifully supplied. You just go in and buy fruits and vegetables from all over the world.” Young people ignorant of history and economics “have a sense that this is the way life has always been. Because they’ve never been exposed to history, they have no idea that these are recent attainments that come from a very specific economic system.” Young people led by the likes of Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fail to realize that capitalism has “produced this cornucopia around us. But the young seem to believe in having the government run everything, and that the private companies that are doing things for profit around them, and supplying them with goods, will somehow exist forever.” For the feminists, Paglia says, “I insist that capitalism has produced the glorious emancipation of women.” Today, they can “support themselves and live on their own, and no longer must humiliatingly depend on father or husband.”

Reading Varadarajan’s article made my day knowing that there’s at least one intelligent radical feminist. But what else is to be expected from anyone who’s a libertarian capitalist?

Pennsylvania Education Department Claims 3-Year-Olds Can Identify as Transgender

Posted by M. C. on August 17, 2022

What is your 3 year old’s preferred pronoun?

BRECCAN F. THIES

2 Aug 2022

The Pennsylvania Department of Education claims children as young as three  can identify as transgender and lists “ne, ve, ze/zie and xe” as viable pronouns.

The website for the department also advises teachers to ask students before assuming what a student’s preferred pronouns might be.

“In addition to the traditional pronouns (he/him, she/her, they), some people prefer to use gender-neutral pronouns, such as ne, ve, ze/zie and xe,” the website says. “If you don’t know a student’s preferred personal pronoun, it’s always best to ask.”

According to the website, which is intended to be a guide for teachers, “binary gender” is the “faulty concept that there are only two genders: male and female” and “gender expression/gender presentation” is “how we show our gender to the world through external choices (e.g. dress, behavior, hairstyle).”

The department also advocates for teachers to celebrate a “gender-neutral day” in which students are asked to pick “two to three ways they will reject gender stereotypes for the day.”

Students and teachers should also “make specific commitments” to “challenge gender norms.”

“This is part of a national effort in schools to ‘break the binary’ by confusing young children about biological sex and indoctrinating them into believing that gender is a spectrum,” Parents Defending Education Director of Outreach Erika Sanzi told Fox News in a statement. “The Department of Education should delete these ideology based resources from their website and anyone teaching gender fluidity to three year olds does not belong in a classroom.”

Republicans Miss the Real Issue Regarding TSA Scanners

Posted by M. C. on April 18, 2022

The real issue here is the existence of the TSA in the first place. The nation’s airports are either owned by local government entities or are privately owned. They are not owned by the federal government. Therefore, the federal government has no more authority to provide airport security than it has to provide security at hotels and convenience stores.

by Laurence M. Vance

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is back in the news again, and, as usual, it is not because the agency did something noteworthy. The TSA shouldn’t have more inclusive scanners; it shouldn’t have any scanners at all. The agency should not exist in the first place.
[Click to Tweet]

The TSA was established by the Aviation and Transportation Security Act (S.1447) that was passed by the 107th Congress and signed into law by President George W. Bush on November 19, 2001. No Republicans in the Senate voted against the bill, and only nine Republicans in the House (including the heroic Ron Paul) voted no. Originally part of the Department of Transportation (DOT), the TSA was moved to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) when that department was created in 2003. The TSA is headquartered in Springfield, Virginia.

The official mission of the TSA is to “protect the nation’s transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce.” Although this mainly concerns security in airports, the TSA, with industry partners, also “safeguards all four general modes of land-based transportation: mass transit, freight rail, highway motor carrier and pipeline.” The TSA has about 65,000 employees, most of whom are transportation security officers, inspectors, specialists, administrators, or other security professionals. Its approximately $8 billion budget is partially funded by a $5.60 per-passenger fee for each one-way airplane flight originating in the United States. Although airports are allowed to opt-out of TSA screening and hire private companies, those companies must be approved by the TSA and follow TSA procedures.

For years, the TSA has been known for its ineptitude, baggage theft and other criminal activity, inefficiency, waste, sexual harassments and assaults, and abuses of airline passengers. At various times, the TSA has failed to detect explosives, knives, and guns, all the while treating Americans like—in the words of James Bovard—“cattle being chuted to a civil liberties slaughterhouse.”

The latest outrage perpetrated by the TSA is the spending of more than $18.6 million of taxpayer money “to update airport screening protocols and technology to be more inclusive of transgender, nonbinary and gender-nonconforming passengers.” The TSA “hopes the new technology will help reduce the pat-downs and other invasive screen procedures that are required when transgender individuals trigger body scanners ‘in a sensitive area.’”

The TSA issued a press release timed to coincide with the so-called Transgender Day of Visibility (March 31):

On this internationally recognized day for the transgender community, TSA is proud to announce significant initiatives as a direct result of close partnership with community stakeholders,” said TSA Administrator David Pekoske. “Over the coming months, TSA will move swiftly to implement more secure and efficient screening processes that are gender neutral, as well as technological updates that will enhance security and make TSA PreCheck® enrollment more inclusive. These combined efforts will greatly enhance airport security and screening procedures for all.”

“To transgender Americans of all ages, I want you to know that you are so brave,” President Biden said. “You belong. I have your back.”

Republicans charged the president with politicizing the TSA to appease the Democratic Party’s base. This is “outrageous” and “wokeness over national security,” said Sen. Steve Daines (R-Montana).

Why is it that Republicans only seem to criticize the TSA when the agency or one of its security screeners does something outrageous?

Probably for the same reason that Republicans criticize NPR, but only because it has a liberal bias. Probably for the same reason that Republicans criticize the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), but only when it funds pornographic art. Probably for the same reason that Republicans criticize Medicare, but only for waste, fraud, and abuse. Probably for the same reason that Republicans criticize federal funding of Planned Parenthood, but only because the organization performs abortions. Probably for the same reason that Republicans criticize federal regulations for being excessive, burdensome, or costly, but not because they should not be issued in the first place. And probably for the same reason that Republicans criticize the National Institutes of Health (NIH), but only when it awards grants for ridiculous things like the $33,037 grant to the University of South Florida “to study factors that can increase vaccination among gay men for the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) to prevent them from developing anal cancer.”

The real issue here is the existence of the TSA in the first place. The nation’s airports are either owned by local government entities or are privately owned. They are not owned by the federal government. Therefore, the federal government has no more authority to provide airport security than it has to provide security at hotels and convenience stores. The only security business the federal government should be in is national security. There is no reason why airports and airlines cannot use private screening services, just like many other countries do.

As law professor Glenn Harlan Reynolds has well said: “When, as was the case before 9/11, security screeners were contractors employed by airlines, they had every incentive to do a good job: Airlines don’t want their planes hijacked or blown up. And they also had every incentive to be speedy and pleasant: Airlines don’t want to irritate their customers, or to make flying an unpleasant experience in general.”

The TSA shouldn’t have more inclusive scanners; it shouldn’t have any scanners at all. The agency should not exist in the first place.

The Great Struggle of Our Time: The Battle for Reality – American Thinker

Posted by M. C. on October 20, 2021

Gaslighting is now an integral part of the left’s every move, and it is sowing confusion and wreaking havoc everywhere. The gaslighters have already managed to disorient many people and weaken their hold on reality. They correctly sense that if they can press sufficiently hard, they will be able to take advantage of the disarray and implement their godless, nihilistic, inhuman, love-deprived and freedom-negating agenda.

https://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2021/10/the_great_struggle_of_our_time_the_battle_for_reality.html

By Vasko Kohlmayer

With societal turbulence all around us, many people feel that we are locked in some great and portentous struggle. But because it is so pervasive and multifaced, the nature of this struggle is not readily obvious. There are many fronts on which this struggle is being fought: racial relations, education, healthcare, popular culture, financial system, and freedom of speech, among others. It is not easy to make sense of it all, especially since the battles are highly pitched and emotions are running very high.

What characterizes these battles, besides their intensity, is deep polarization. The possibility of the warring camps coming together and meeting on some common ground seems to be growing more distant by the day. There is even talk that the two sides will either come to blows, or they will each go their own way in some form of secession.

Many have observed that the contenders seem to be separated by an unbridgeable gap, and yet no one has been able to explain the nature of this gap, or what exactly it is that separates the mindsets of the opposing sides.

In our view the great struggle in the grip of which we find ourselves cuts much deeper than the immediate issues we argue over. The real fight extends beyond any particular point of public friction.

The great battle of our time is a battle about the very nature of reality. More precisely, what the two sides war over on the most fundamental level is what constitutes truth and how it should be determined.

To shed light on this dynamic, let us take one of the heated controversies of the present time. For this we choose transgenderism. This is an especially suitable example for two reasons: this issue is highly divisive and polarizing, and it delineates the opposing camps sharply and clearly.

As you may know, transgender advocates claim that biological males can become women and vice versa.

Understandably, many people find this claim rather far-fetched. For one thing, it does not feel true, given that the evidence of our senses seems to refute it. When, for example, people look at transgender “women” – i.e., biological men who say that they are women – most people immediately recognize that these are not real females. What most people see is men who pretend to be girls. This is how the human mind – in the vast majority of instances – interprets sensory input that it receives upon encountering such persons.

Rachel Levine, President Biden’s Assistant Secretary for Health. Few people would perceive Dr. Levine is a genuine woman. (YouTube screengrab)

And yet transgender advocates vehemently maintain that this is not the correct interpretation of visual data. They insist that what is in front of our eyes are not men who pose as girls but real girls.

Report: Therapy Is Often Successful at Treating Gender Dysphoria | The American Spectator | USA News and Politics

Posted by M. C. on July 26, 2021

This is part of a pattern: states are able to back up their bans on so-called “conversion therapy” because major medical organizations have denounced the use of the practice to treat gender dysphoria.

The American College of Pediatrician’s report offers hope for those who struggle with gender dysphoria. These persons may be able to find relief from their condition without subjecting themselves to a lifetime of major surgeries and life-altering drugs. But to do so, they’ll need to travel to one of 26 states where this treatment is still legal.

https://spectator.org/report-conversion-therapy-treating-gender-dysphoria/

by Ellie Gardey

Transgender activists repeatedly assert that the only way to help someone who experiences gender dysphoria (meaning a person feels they are the opposite sex) is for that person to medically “transition.”

Therapeutic efforts with a counselor or psychologist to help someone overcome his or her gender dysphoria are today classified under the umbrella of “conversion therapy” and are widely denounced as evil and abusive. For instance, the Human Rights Campaign describes conversion therapy as “a range of dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to change a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity or expression.”

Mainstream news outlets also uphold the position that psychotherapeutic efforts to help a person accept his or her biological sex are wrong. The New York Times, tax-payer funded NPR, and NBC News all uphold the Human Rights Campaign’s line and refer to conversion therapy a “discredited practice” that aims to change sexual orientation or gender identity.

Despite claims that it has been discredited, there has been no systematic study on the effectiveness of psychological therapy for treating gender dysphoria.

Twenty-four states have ignored this lack of data and have banned using “conversion therapy” to help someone accept his or her biological sex. This includes California, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, and Utah. Minnesota became the 24th state just last week. This means that it is illegal for a psychologist to help a person overcome his or her gender dysphoria.

A report published this week by the American College of Pediatricians, a conservative pediatric group, cuts against the belief that it is impossible for people who believe they are the opposite sex to overcome their gender dysphoria.

The report examined studies that looked at psychotherapeutic or behavioral approaches for treating gender dysphoria and found that these methods were often successful in alleviating a person’s identification with the opposite sex.

While the report found that there are no rigorous studies examining the effectiveness of psychotherapy for treating gender dysphoria, it was able to conclude that therapy with a counselor often, but not always, resulted in a person accepting his or her biological sex in the studies that are currently available.

“There is compelling evidence to suggest that psychotherapy may be efficacious in treating gender dysphoria,” the report concludes.

Of the 103 people for which the report found a definitive result regarding whether they accepted their biological sex or transitioned, 76 came to accept their biological sex after therapy and 27 medically transitioned. The report did not include pre-adolescent children.

The report is not a systematic look at the effectiveness of psychotherapy for treating gender dysphoria, and the studies were conducted in different settings. Again, there is no rigorous study available that finds how effective psychotherapy is at treating gender dysphoria. Rather, this report is a narrative look at available cases and can only provide evidence to suggest that the mainstream position that it is impossible for psychological therapy to treat gender dysphoria is not true.

The author of the report, an epidemiologist who published anonymously (as surely his or her career would be over if his or her name were attached to the report), says that the findings show the need for rigorous studies on psychological therapy as a treatment for gender dysphoria.

Most of the studies in the report used behavioral therapy or psychotherapy. The author found that only one study examined the success of cognitive-behavioral therapy for treating the condition. Cognitive-behavioral therapy, the author noted, is the standard today for treating much of mental illness. This method was successful, and the 25-year-old woman in the study came to accept her identity as a woman.

A new book reveals how harmful the gospel of affirmation amongst mental health therapists is to children who think they’re trans — RT Op-ed

Posted by M. C. on June 7, 2021

Clearly, it should be of interest to professionals working in the field. Whether their professional body – or even the law – allows them to follow the principles suggested in this book is debatable, but they owe it to their patients to push back on the restrictions to their practice. As Evans and Evans assert, “patients with gender dysphoria need services that are protected from political activism; the professionals involved need to be able to work in an environment that is protected from political intrusion.”

Parents and teachers of gender dysphoric children will recognise the behaviours that the authors describe and explain. If we are to help young people in distress, we need to know why they might be distressed. But this book is accessible to a lay readership and needs to be read by a lay readership. Society has a responsibility to children, and we all need to understand what is happening to young people who have been captured by this craze.

Debbie Hayton

Debbie Hayton is a high school teacher and trade union officer. She teaches science to 11-18-year-olds at a school in central England. As a transgender person, she has written extensively about what it means to be trans and how trans people can be included in society without compromising the rights of other vulnerable groups. Her work can be read in publications from across the political spectrum, where rational scientific debate is allowed and encouraged. Follow her on Twitter @DebbieHayton

Many youngsters who present as gender dysphoric have mental health issues or have suffered abuse or trauma. Yet instead of probing these causes of distress, therapists are expected to accept their patient’s self-diagnosis.

The transgender craze shows no sign of loosening its grip on society. The impact on children and adolescents was discussed empathetically by journalist Abigail Shrier in her superb book, ‘Irreversible Damage’. But what support is there for therapists who work with those young people, in particular those professionals who can see the dangers?

These are scary times. In the UK, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) against “conversion therapy” inhibits counsellors from probing their client’s self-diagnosis of transsexualism. Professionals who should be helping their clients explore and understand their psychological distress are instead expected to affirm whatever their client tells them. Worse, proposed legislation might lead to criminal action being taken against them.

In what is often a febrile environment, a new book by Susan and Marcus Evans examines the situation from a professional viewpoint – the perspective of therapists faced with young clients who have been convinced that they are somehow in the wrong body. ‘Gender Dysphoria: A Therapeutic Model for Working with Children, Adolescents and Young Adults’ is neither “pro” nor “anti” transition. The authors – both experienced practitioners in their field – are cautious, especially regarding young people. They are keen to understand what is happening, rather than merely react to circumstances,

We understand that to transition is, for some adults, the best way to lead their lives and present to the world,” they write. “Instead, this model concentrates on the individual concerned, to explore and understand what drives and motivates them.”

That is a refreshing approach to gender dysphoric patients, like me. But it was what I experienced 10 years ago; I transitioned before the MOU shackled counsellors to the affirmation model. My own counsellor forced me to consider alternative responses to my transsexualism. At the time I hated it – I wanted to transition and at all costs – but at least I had some idea why I might be doing it, beyond what I picked up on the internet.

At least I was an adult, and able to make informed decisions. The Evans are concerned principally with young people. After spending their working lives in Britain’s NHS, firstly as mental health nurses and latterly as psychoanalytic psychotherapists and clinical lecturers, they speak with expertise and experience,

The accuracy of mental-health diagnosis in children is notoriously unreliable prognostically, as children change during the course of their development,” they warn. “Children who are diagnosed with one thing at a particular age may turn out very differently when they reach maturity.”

Because nobody can cut and run from these sorts of problems, they come with us because they are us. The lie that it is any different has been told so many times that children believe it. Worse, adults who should know better also believe it. Evans and Evans painstakingly analysed Jane’s response to therapy and – with professional expertise – explained it clearly.

There is no simple solution for Jane’s difficulties with life, but human psychology is not simple. We are all complex individuals and each of us has a unique experience of what it means to be human. But together with the other case studies in the book, a picture develops of young people who are in need of being understood, not told that they are somehow born in the wrong body.

This book needs to be read.

Immolating Parental Rights and Overruling Truth – OffGuardian

Posted by M. C. on April 12, 2021

How the Jailing of a BC Father Shows the Extremes of Transgender Ideology and the Failure of the Media

https://off-guardian.org/2021/04/09/immolating-parental-rights-and-overruling-truth/

Jenn Smith

Abstract: There are important parallels between the 1963 case of the self-immolation of Vietnamese Buddhist monk Thích Quảng Đức and the recent case in British Columbia (2021) of a father who was forced against his will by the court and the state to facilitate the pharmaceutical “sex reassignment” of his teenage daughter. Both cases speak to the desperation of people whose rights were trampled by an invasive all-powerful state and who were ignored by an indifferent and corrupt establishment-beholden media.

A Strange and Distant Memory.

“[Civil Disobedience] seeks to create such a crisis and establish such creative tension that a community that has constantly refused to negotiate is forced to confront the issue. It seeks to so dramatize the issue that it can no longer be ignored.” Martin Luther King Jr.

The story of Thích Quảng Đức and the now infamous photograph taken by Malcolm Browne of his shocking act of self-immolation during the Vietnam War, has fascinated me from the first moment I saw it.

The photo (see below) shows Quảng Đức, a Vietnamese Mahayana Buddhist monk, who lit himself on fire as part of a planned political protest at a busy Saigon road intersection on June 11, 1963. It was truly one of the most visually and emotionally stunning media events of the 20th century. Then-President John F. Kennedy, who would only live another five months himself, said of the photo:

No news picture in history has generated so much emotion around the world.

Unfortunately, the Vietnam War would produce many other startling photographs before it was over.

Photo taken by Associated Press photographer Malcolm Browne, on June 11, 1963, Saigon, South Vietnam.

While many disturbing images came out of the Vietnam War, there was something unique and disturbingly surreal about the Quảng Đức image and what it represented. Unlike few other images in human history, the image of Quảng Đức sitting calmly in the middle of an inferno of his own creation caused much of the world to stop and look. Other now-famous images from that era, almost without exception, portrayed things being done to somebody, in this case it was somebody doing something terrible to himself.

The impact of this photo globally was overwhelming. For a moment people all around the world simultaneously put their hands on their mouths and went silent. What brings a man to do something so horrific to himself and yet with such apparent calm lucidity?

One of the few reporters that bothered to attend the event, David Halberstam of the New York Times, wrote

I was too shocked to cry, too confused to take notes or ask questions, too bewildered to even think … As he burned he never moved a muscle, never uttered a sound, his outward composure in sharp contrast to the wailing people around him.

Why would somebody light themselves on fire for a political cause? What could possibly justify such an extreme act of self-destruction? Who was this person and what motivated him?

In order to understand the case of Thich Quảng Đức and how it relates to the case I am involved with today in British Columbia, you must understand the political landscape upon which it transpired.

Quảng Đức and his fellow monks had been trying desperately for some time to get a corrupt and seemingly indifferent global media to focus on the religious oppression of Buddhists in Vietnam by the Catholic-dominated Diem government. A ban on the flying of religious flags led to a large protest by Buddhists in the city of Huế on May 8, 1963. Some nine thousand people attended the protest which was eventually rocked by an explosion of uncertain origin followed by police and military opening fire on the crowd, killing 9 and wounding many others, including two children who were crushed underneath the wheels of government armored personnel carriers.

Buddhist protestors in South Vietnam in 1963 during the so-called “Buddhist Crisis” that led to the self-immolation of Thích Quảng Đức.

The government blamed the Huế massacre on the Vietcong and the global media either ignored or failed to give the event the attention it deserved. The US ambassador to South Vietnam sided with the Diem government and called government explanations “objective, accurate, and fair,” which was repeated by much of the global media.

The dishonesty and indifference of the media and government became a very pressing and frustrating problem for the Buddhists of Vietnam. The government was now openly slaughtering Buddhist protestors and the media was either ignoring or spinning it in favor of the government.

Indeed, the aforementioned David Halberstam of the New York Times, who would be one of the few journalists to attend the press gathering in Saigon on June 11, had himself subtly implied that the Hue protest might be linked to Communists and that the casualties were caused by an agent provocateur in the crowd rather than government forces.

How could Buddhists get a largely indifferent media to give their situation the attention it deserved? The problem, of course, was solved quite dramatically, but it was not a spontaneous event and only a handful of international reporters were in attendance that day.

The self-immolation of Quảng Đức was part of a strategic plan to force the international media to pay attention. If you look at the photo closely you will see other monks with cameras walking around. This event was carefully staged.

The plan did work, the world media did pay attention, because it was hard to ignore something so dramatic as a man lighting himself on fire in order to protest injustice. Several copycats immolated themselves later that year as well but did not get the same level of attention and in fact led to one official in Vietnam saying that she would…

clap [my] hands at seeing another monk barbecue show.

The flippant attitude was not shared by the rest of the world, and Quảng Đức’s sacrifice ultimately set off a chain of events that led to the end of the Diem government, but one must understand the key to this event was that it forced the global media to pay attention, and that was what caused a shift in public opinion and ultimately helped bring about change.

The story of Thích Quảng Đức returns to me again today because, ironically, a case I have been a part of in British Columbia (BC), Canada, shares some of the same basic features — although not as extreme or visually startling in its outcome as the case of Quảng Đức, the case of a father that has become known by the pseudonym of “Clark Kent” and referred to in court documents under the anonymized initials of “CD”, and who was forced to facilitate the pharmaceutical “sex reassignment” of his daughter against his will and his reaction to that, raises many of the same questions and points to some of the very same motivations and answers.

The Rise of Transgender Ideology and Its Resistance.

“Never has our future been more unpredictable, never have we depended so much on political forces that cannot be trusted to follow the rules of common sense and self-interest – forces that look like sheer insanity, if judged by the standards of other centuries.” Hannah Arendt

On March 20, 2021, my phone rang and I was immediately greeted by a recorded message from a British Columbia (BC) remand correctional facility, essentially a jail that holds prisoners until they can face trial. A disclaimer was read to me that the call would be recorded and subject to review. I had to agree to the terms before the call would be connected. I did so and the voice of a man I had first met in December of 2018 said, “hello, Jenn?”

It was a surreal experience for me because I knew the man well and I knew he was no threat to anybody, and yet here he was calling me from inside a jail. While it had happened sooner than expected, I was in fact not entirely surprised that this tragic situation had finally come to pass, as I had seen it coming for some time. But to understand the travesty and tragedy that has occurred in British Columbia today — which should echo through the corridors of every legislature and courtroom in the world — I will need to take the reader back to the start for a brief summary of how the now-infamous case of AB v CD came to pass and my direct involvement in it.

Brief Background

First, for readers that may not be familiar with this case or myself, I should begin by providing some brief background information, not only on this case but on myself as well and the cause I have been fighting for, as I have been directly involved in this story since before it was in front of any judge, and I indeed wrote the very first story on this case in December of 2018. While I do not want to get too deep into all the complicated details, I believe this to be one of the most important legal and political cases in the world today and as such it deserves some due space and attention.

The case of AB v CD points not only to the most concerning elements of modern transgender ideology and politics, but to the complete failure of both the fourth and fifth estates (the media) in alerting the public to injustice and defending the truth. The act of desperation that ultimately transpired in the case of AB v CD can be shown to have been fueled by the same basic frustrations and forces that drove Thích Quảng Đức to his act of desperation almost six decades ago, but that will be illustrated in due time.

I am a 56-year-old transgender-identified activist. I am male. I present to the world in sometimes androgynous and sometimes feminine ways, but I have never claimed my presentation does or could ever change my sex. While it may be true that at one point I wanted to be a female, I was never able to get to the level of physical reality denial that is necessary to reject one’s biological sex, so I settled for playing the gender role without denying reality or insisting others do so. I am okay with just being male and being transgender, with “transgender” simply referring to a pattern of behavior. I believe this is the only healthy way to express transgender identity, not only for oneself, but for society as well, and the following story will illustrate for you the dangers of doing otherwise. We can play any part we want in this world but for the sake of everybody (including ourselves) we must always remain tethered to truth, particularly when it comes to law and the education of our youth.

I became involved in the political debate regarding transgender issues almost four years ago when I began using my academic background to research and write articles critical of what I call “the transgender agenda,” namely, this shift we have seen in society towards claiming males can be females (and visa versa), and the concerning indoctrination and confusion of our children in that process, not to mention the disturbing totalitarian undertones that seem to be driving it and which I discussed in my widely read essay Synanon, the Brainwashing “Game,” and Modern Transgender Activism.

Being transgender myself, I of course have never opposed the right for adults to dress or express as they like in the world, but I believe there are too many pressures and confusions associated with this behavior for minors to fully process and understand, as such I have always maintained that changing gender is something best reserved for adults. I further believe that particularly the medical or pharmaceutical transitioning (“sex reassignment”) of minors should be illegal because it has permanent life-altering consequences. I regard the mass chemical sterilization of our youth via the use of “gender affirming” drugs as a kind of medical crime, particularly when you understand the demographics of the youths identifying as transgender.

There has been a massive increase in the number of minors identifying as transgender over the last five or six years. This fact on its own is cause for serious concern, but it becomes even more alarming when you begin analyzing just what children are identifying as transgender. According to one study, 52% of “gender dysphoric” youths (minors identifying as the opposite sex) had one or more DSM-listed psychiatric conditions in addition to gender dysphoria. Numerous other studies have made the same basic findings, in other words, these are psychologically troubled youths.

Studies will vary, but researchers testing gender dysphoric youths have reported autism spectrum disorder prevalence at rates ranging from 8% at the low end to a staggering 54.2% at the high end. These numbers however do not become alarming until you realize that the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder in the general population is estimated by the CDC to be 1.7%. For autism rates in transgender youths to average around 30% or even 8% should be shocking to all thinking adults.

No serious person would suggest gender dysphoria causes autism, and the only reasonable answer is that these are psychologically vulnerable children that are falling victim to what is essentially a predatory ideology that turns them into life long pharmaceutical customers. But it gets even worse than this.

I was a foster child in the province of British Columbia (BC) during the 1970s and went through multiple different homes, and I was thus horrified to learn that BC’s leading gender specialist suggested that half of his 1000 minor patients came from the BC Ministry of Child and Family Development, in other words foster children and youths otherwise in the care of the Ministry. While we will not know how those numbers break down with certainty until we can get the subpoenaing power of a National Inquiry which I have been pushing for now for two years, I found this information highly alarming and it has made this subject extraordinarily personal for me.

Transgender: The Left’s Instrument of Ruin and Destruction – LewRockwell

Posted by M. C. on March 8, 2021

It is not necessary to go into great detail here. For a good reference we would recommend the scholarly survey titled The Black Book of Communism: Crimes, Terror, Repression which chronicles some the crimes perpetrated by leftists in the course of the last century. The authors estimate that in the span of less than eight decades the left managed to kill nearly one hundred million people. Mind-boggling as this figure is, it is likely an underestimate.

By Vasko Kohlmayer

In the last few years, we have seen an increasingly enthusiastic embracing of the transgender cause by the Democrat Party.

So much so, that on the very first day of his presidency, Joe Biden signed an extreme measure known as Executive Order 13988. Fully titled “Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation” the measure forces, among other things, schools to allow biological males to compete with girls in athletics.

The Human Rights Campaign, a radical far-left LGBT group that has been relentlessly pushing the transgender agenda on the American public, praised Biden’s executive order as “most substantive, wide-ranging executive order concerning sexual orientation and gender identity ever issued by a United States president.”

Transgender, as may know, is an ideology that contends that human beings who have been born as biological males – i.e., men – can become women and vice versa.

This is an impossibility which we have discussed previously in this space. This fact, however, does nothing to prevent the Democrats from trying to impose this insanity on American society.

Why would the Democrats pursue such an absurd and extreme agenda?

To understand this, we need to keep in mind the larger picture. Taking advantage of the crisis generated by the COVID scamdemic and the overdose death of George Floyd, the left’s radical elements managed to take over the Democrat Party. This takeover happened between June and August of last year. During this period, the Democrat Party establishment lurched sharply leftwards. The net result is that the Democrat Party is now the political vehicle of the hard left whose woke and progressive agendas it now represents.

The primordial psychological impulse that has always actuated the hard left is the desire to kill, ruin and destroy. To see that this is in fact so, all you need to do is to take a quick historic survey of the countries where the hard left managed to gain complete control. Some of these countries would include the Soviet Union, China, North Korea, Cuba, Cambodia, and Ethiopia, among others.

Given a free hand, the leftists in charge of these regimes managed to kill millions of people and completely ruin the societies over which they held sway.

Tellingly, this pattern of murder and destruction prevailed in every country where the left wielded unchecked power. Thus it is no accident, but an expression of the deep-seated impulse that actuates leftist psyche and behavior.

And this brings us to the seemingly inexplicable adoption of the transgender ideology by the Democrat Party. With the cognitively impaired Biden serving merely as a cover for the extremists in charge, the Democrats’ newly acquired enthusiasm for transgenderism is a result of the hard left’s recognition of the potential it offers to further the Democrats’ agenda of destruction.

The unique advantage of this ideology is that it destroys both the individual and society under the auspices of a single worldview. One of the problems faced by leftists of the past was that they had to use different – and often contradictory – ideas to realize their goals. To devastate their national economies, they had to impose centrally planned systems through which they could implement their ruinous economic measures. To destroy individuals, on the other hand, they had to employ altogether different ideological means which were often unrelated to their project of societal ruination. For example, they might accuse their victims of being collaborators with Western powers, of being sexual perverts, or enemies of the people, traitors and so forth.

The beauty of transgenderism is – as far as the hard left is concerned – that it accomplishes both under an umbrella of a unified ideology.

For individuals, gender constitutes the most basic form of human identity. On the most fundamental level, we identify with our physical bodies which are either male or female. It is through our gender that we make sense of our existence. It is our gender that determines how we relate to and behave vis-à-vis other human beings and how we handle life in general. Our gender serves as the basic guide by which we orientate ourselves in society and by which we navigate the complexity of human experience.

It is gender that guides our behavior from the earliest years. The gender paradigm is quintessentially binary in nature and its broad outlines are delineated by the following pairs of opposites:

Boy / girl
Son / daughter
Man / woman
Husband / wife
Father / mother

Our gender – whether we are a man or a woman – is irreversibly determined by our physiology, i.e., by our biological sex. As we have noted previously:

“In humans the nucleus of each cell normally contains forty-six chromosomes, arranged into twenty-three distinct pairs. In both males and females twenty-two of these pairs look the same. These chromosomes are called autosomes. The twenty-third pair, however, is quite different. It contains the so-called sex chromosomes. These chromosomes differ between males and females. Females have two copies of the so-called X chromosome, while males have one X and one Y chromosome. Thus, the twenty-third chromosomal pair takes the form of XY in males and XX in females.”

Because our gender – whether one is a man or a woman – is hardwired into biology on the physical level through our DNA, it is simply not possible to “transition” from one gender to another. In other words, someone who has been born a biological male can never become a real woman and vice versa.

No matter how hard we may try, we can never succeed in crossing from one gender to the other, because biological reality cannot be negated. Trying to traverse the gender divide is like running with your head against a ten-feet thick stone wall while hoping to break through to the other side. Those who attempt to do such a thing will hurt themselves seriously in the process. Similarly, those who attempt to “transition” from one gender to another are bound to sustain severe injuries without any realistic possibility of ever attaining their desired goal. Their injuries are grievous and extensive, encompassing the full spectrum of their person: psychological, emotional and physical.

So battered and traumatized, many transgender people simply cannot bear their pain. Unable to withstand their suffering, large numbers of them choose to die by their own hand. The statistics are brutal: the suicide rate of transgender people is more than twenty times the rate of their normal peers. Please mark this well. Transgender people are not two times more likely, or five times more likely or even ten times more likely to take their own lives than the general population. They are more than two thousand percent more likely to do so! This fact alone should spur governments to immediately put an end to this terrible person-destroying practice.

Depressed and mutilated, most transgender individuals are human beings who live in a grip of great pain. Many choose to die by their own hand, others die prematurely from the numerous health issues that arise as an inevitable consequence of the misguided “transitioning” process, and most of the rest lead lives of deep despondency and confusion.

These people are victims whose lives have been ruined by the ideology of transgenderism. What these unfortunates need is compassion and wise help from their environment and society. They need counseling to correct the misconceptions that have been planted in their minds and they need support so they can settle in their natural gender. This, however, is not what the hard leftists who have seized control of the Democrat Party wish to do. Instead, they are pushing this pernicious ideology on American society through executive orders and other extra-legislative means. These radicals are clearly happy with the destruction that transgenderism visits upon those who fall prey to it. This willingness to facilitate the ruination of human beings should not surprise anyone who is aware of the dark impulse that has always informed the hard left psyche. Tragically, humanity has had the misfortune to suffer amply from the manifestation of this impulse in the course of the last century.

In a future installment we will discuss how the left uses transgenderism as a ploy to attack and undermine the foundations of society as a whole.
