What Would Christopher Hitchens Say? | The American Conservative

Posted by M. C. on March 26, 2019

A lefty atheist that always presented a compelling argument that would make you think.

Forecasts of societal demise, if for no reason other than their consistency throughout history, always run the risk of making critics appear hysterical and melodramatic. Even so, one can’t help but wonder whether America has lost the infrastructure necessary to support intellectual greatness.

Christopher Hitchens was born, raised, and educated in England, but as an author and polemicist he acquired his most persuasive power and propulsion in the United States. He wrote his most controversial and skillful essays for American publications, authored biographies of Thomas Jefferson and Thomas Paine, and became an American citizen at the Jefferson Memorial just a few years before he died of esophageal cancer.

In the introduction to his fifth essay collection, Arguably, he wrote that “the people who must never have power are the humorless. To impossible certainties of rectitude they ally tedium and uniformity.” Under the banner of intellectual exploration, he presented essays on topics as seemingly disparate as the United States Constitution, the literature of Saul Bellow, and oral sex. “An essential element of the American idea,” he noted, “is variety.”

His humbly stated but deeply held conviction on the necessity of argument broadens into a mission statement for aspiring writers: “Still, I like to believe that these small-scale ventures make some contribution to a conversation without limits of proscriptions: the sin qua non of the sort of society that knows to keep the solemn and the pious at bay.”…

Top 10 Propagandists Who Pushed Russia Collusion Hoax

Posted by M. C. on March 25, 2019

Hillary number 1 with me.

Fake news mystery wrapped in a coup d’etat enigma. CNN, WaPo, & NYT were the leaders.

https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/03/22/top-10-propagandists-who-pushed-russia-collusion-hoax/

by Joshua Caplan

…Here are ten of the top promoters of the narrative:

    1. CNN — CNN first reported that President Trump was briefed on the “pee dossier,” which prompted BuzzFeed to publish the dossier in full. CNN has also given vast amounts of airtime to analysts, former officials, and Democrat lawmakers pushing the Russia collusion narrative. It has also published a number of stories that advanced the narrative, including several that turned out to be false.
    2. BuzzFeed — BuzzFeed first published the “pee dossier” in full — which released to the public unfounded accusations against President Trump, including the unverified claim that he hired prostitutes to urinate on a bed during a visit to Moscow in 2013. At the time of publish, the dossier remained “salacious and unverified,” in then-FBI Director James Comey’s own words.
    3. The Washington Post — The Washington Post was on the forefront of publishing anonymously-sourced stories suggesting collusion between Russia and Trump campaign officials. It published the intelligence leak that former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn discussed sanctions with Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak that led to his firing later. Flynn ended up pleading guilty to one count of lying. There were no collusion charges.
    4. The New York Times — The New York Times published a front-page, top-of-the-page story on Inauguration Day suggesting that President-elect Trump’s associates had been “wiretapped.” Though the report admitted, “It is not clear whether the intercepted communications had anything to do with Mr. Trump’s campaign, or Mr. Trump himself,” it set the very inauguration of President Trump as part of a Russian conspiracy.
    5. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) — Schiff, now the House Intelligence Committee chairman, has been the No. 1 pusher of the Russia collusion hoax in Congress. Absent any direct evidence of collusion, Schiff has argued for months that the evidence is “hiding in plain sight.” Schiff has also tried to fundraise off of the hoax.
    6. Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) — Lieu has been a close second to Schiff’s promotion of the Russia hoax in Congress. He once called for a pause in the “entire Trump agenda” until an investigation into the collusion ties was completed.
    7. Benjamin Wittes — Wittes, a journalist who is close to former FBI Director James Comey, was a lead inciter on Twitter of the Russia hoax, infamously tweeting cannon gifs every time a new sensational report came out that advanced the Russia collusion narrative.
    8. Louise Mensch — Mensch, a former British parliamentarian, has become a household name among the anti-Trump resistance in the U.S., with her fantastical tweets about “sealed indictments” and grand juries.
    9. Hillary Clinton — Clinton, the day after losing the election to Trump, wanted to promote the idea that Comey’s reopening of the investigation into her emails and Russia led to her defeat, according to the book Shattered. “She wants to make sure all these narratives get spun the right way,” a Clinton ally told the book’s authors.
    10. Robby Mook — Mook was the first Clinton campaign official to go on record suggesting there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, during an ABC News interview at the Democratic National Convention in July 2016, shortly after stolen DNC emails were released.

Breitbart News’ Joel Pollak contributed to this report.

TIME’S UP, THERESA Theresa May has shown courage — but to seal her deal and deliver Brexit, she needs to resign

Posted by M. C. on March 25, 2019

..and show she is not just another craven politician determined to cling to power…

But that is just what she is. It has been obvious to anyone paying attention she is Anti-Brexit. Her Brexit plan is drag this out until no one remembers nor cares anymore.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/8710473/theresa-may-resign-brexit-deal/

THERESA May must announce today that she will stand down as soon as her Brexit deal is approved and Britain is out of the EU.

The Sun says this with regret, having supported her since before she became Prime Minister. But she has lost the backing of much of the country and now her party.

Her deal has only one, slim chance of achieving a majority in the Commons.

That is if she pledges immediately to resign and set in motion the election of her successor as Tory leader and PM after we leave the EU on the new deadline of May 22.

If she does so, Tory Brexiteers and the DUP must back the deal. Because if it fails again this week we are heading for a much softer Brexit — or none.

That will be a catastrophe for the country, the Tories and Parliament.

Mrs May deserves huge credit. She is a dedicated public servant with an unshakeable sense of duty, who in 2016 took on the greatest challenge of any PM since World War Two.

DEFENDED DEMOCRACY

She has stuck to it through thick and thin, showing remarkable resilience in the face of repeated humiliations, rebellions and a relentless barrage of vitriol from almost all-comers.

Unlike so many she has determinedly respected the will of the Leave majority. The very concept of democracy has been degraded in many other countries, yet she has resolutely defended ours.

She must now take the next principled step — and show she is not just another craven politician determined to cling to power…

Why Would the US – LewRockwell

Posted by M. C. on March 25, 2019

Just consider the “War on Terror.” There is no stated enemy, there can be no surrender, and the CIA and other government and military sources can insure continuous conflict by manufacturing terrorists at will.

“War serves only the warlords and the graveyards!”
― Mehmet Murat ildan

The term “unwinnable war” is a strange and ambiguous notion used most often to describe fake reasoning for not winning a war. This seems absurd to me, and at the same time insincere. Lately, I have heard this term used often in personal correspondence sent to me, and in the published writings of others concerning past wars. Mainly ex-soldiers, politicians, and other purveyors of war use this term in order to shield themselves from the shame of losing. But was the real intent ever to win?

After the fact, the unwinnable war theory always seems to surface, as if war should not be fought if it is unwinnable.  Does this mean that war is just a game? Do the U.S. and its military enter each aggression with the question, is this winnable? If so, is this the criteria considered, or is the opposite effect actually pursued?

No war should ever be fought except for actual self-defense of people and country due to an aggressive invasion. In addition, once any threat is squelched, all force should immediately cease. This proper defense does not allow for foreign invasion by the U.S., but foreign invasion has been the mainstay of American policy throughout its history. This aggression has happened without any initial attack against the U.S. mainland ever taking place. In other words, U.S. wars in most of history have never been justified.

When talking about past, present, or future wars, it is imperative to understand that being “unwinnable” or “winnable” is never a valid reason to justify going to war. To say that the country should not be in a war because it is unwinnable is to imply that if it were winnable, war would be warranted. How difficult is it to see the insanity of this thinking?

Much of the correspondence I have received and articles I have read lately that mention war being unwinnable, have been concerning Vietnam. This is a perfect case in point. There was never any reason for the U.S. to be involved in the Vietnam War. There was never any attack against this country or its military by anyone in that country. The U.S. had committed acts of war against Vietnam for years, so it should have been obvious even when the war started that all reasons for that war were political in nature, and never for national defense.

But then, no wars, with the exceptions of the Revolutionary War and the South’s War for Independence, have ever been fought in order to protect this nation from tyranny or aggression. In other words, every U.S. war including Lincoln’s war on his own country and people was unnecessary and unwarranted…

Nothing but Phonies – Taki’s Magazine – Taki’s Magazine

Posted by M. C. on March 25, 2019

https://www.takimag.com/article/nothing-but-phonies/print

by Taki Theodoracopulos

Goodbye, snowcapped peaks; hello, swampy brown East River. So long, fresh alpine air; greetings, choking diesel fumes. Adios, cows and cuckoo clocks; welcome, filthy island packed to the gills with angry, mean, squat Trump haters who live in decrepit buildings they share with rats. Yes, back to the city that never sleeps, and whose residents are perennially offended.

This is the bad news, the good being that the word “Brexit” means nothing over here, nada, as our Hispanic cousins crawling all over the place say. Instead of the B-word we have the S one, as in the college admissions scheme that turned into a scandal. More than fifty people were busted last week for paying lotsa moola to get underqualified students fraudulently accepted into some of the country’s top universities. Lots of hedge funders and Hollywood wives, so what’s so surprising about that? And why is it news now? George W. Bush was a C student in high school and would never have gotten into Yale but for…well, we all need a bit of help from Papa once in a while. JFK Jr. was so thick, even Brown U—Brown was on the take more than any other school back then—hesitated but finally took him. The worst was Jared Kushner, whose old man, a convicted felon, paid $2.5 million for his son to be accepted to Harvard. It sounds cynical, and it is. But then who said that life was fair? If it were, Michael Jackson, the most flagrant pedophile ever, would have been jailed very early on, but being black—although he later turned white—kept him out of the pokey and into little boys’ pants.

The reason this college scandal hardly registers is because it’s nothing compared with schools that operate as corrupt big-money fronts for pro basketball and football. Student athletes in those two major pro sports are 90 percent black, and many graduate without the ability to read or write but are called college grads. When they fail to make the big time, a life in crime is preordained. Now, that’s what I call a scandal…

With RussiaGate Over Where’s Hillary? – Gold Goats ‘n Guns

Posted by M. C. on March 25, 2019

Hillary is the epitome of envy. Envy is the destructive sin of coveting someone else’s life so much they are obsessed with destroying it. It’s the sin of Cain.

https://tomluongo.me/2019/03/23/with-russiagate-over-wheres-hillary/

During most of the RussiaGate investigation against Donald Trump I kept saying that all roads lead to Hillary Clinton.

Anyone with three working brain cells knew this, including ‘Miss’ Maddow, whose tears of disappointment are particularly delicious.

Robert Mueller’s investigation was designed from the beginning to create something out of nothing. It did this admirably.

It was so effective it paralyzed the country for more than two years, just like Europe has been held hostage by Brexit. And all of this because, in the end, the elites I call The Davos Crowd refused to accept that the people no longer believed their lies about the benefits of their neoliberal, globalist agenda.

Hillary Clinton’s ascension to the Presidency was to be their apotheosis along with the Brexit vote. These were meant to lay to rest, once and for all time, the vaguely libertarian notion that people should rule themselves and not be ruled by philosopher kings in some distant land.

Hillary’s failure was enormous. And the RussiaGate gambit to destroy Trump served a laundry list of purposes to cover it:

  1. Undermine his legitimacy before he even takes office.
  2. Accuse him of what Hillary actually did: collude with Russians and Ukrainians to effect the outcome of the election
  3. Paralyze Trump on his foreign policy desires to scale back the Empire
  4. Give aid and comfort to hurting progressives and radicalize them further undermining our political system
  5. Polarize the electorate over the false choice of Trump’s guilt.
  6. Paralyze the Dept. of Justice and Congress so that they would not uncover the massive corruption in the intelligence agencies in the U.S. and the U.K.
  7. Isolate Trump and take away every ally or potential ally he could have by turning them against him through prosecutor overreach.

Hillary should have been thrown to the wolves after she failed. When you fail the people she failed and cost them the money she cost them, you lose more than just your funding. What this tells you is that she has so much dirt on everyone involved, once this thing started everyone went along with it lest she burn them down as well.

Burnin’ Down da House…

Meddling-Forest/Trees. Show Trial Epic Fail.

Posted by M. C. on March 24, 2019

Two years and likely half a billion dollars later-no Russia collusion indictments.

You would have thought the FIB, NSA, CIA would have said something to someone. Unless they were part of the oh so obvious coup attempt.

If Russia hacked

What indictments that were issued were for lying to congress and other common as dirt Washington activities.

Governments have been meddling with other government as long as there have been governments. Hillary admitted Russian election interference. Hillary had Libya’s Qaddafi overthrown and assassinated turning Libya into a human trafficking depot. She “meddled” in Ukraine government turning it into a neo-Nazi fatherland.

Bubba turned Kosovo into Christian free drug and human organ trade center.

Bush II – Iraq II

Bush I – Iraq I and was CIA chief

Reagan in Central America and Iran

Johnson in Vietnam

Ad nauseum

Now the US is trying to depose an elected president and bragging about regime change in Venezuela with US military help.

Yet Mueller can’t find any meddlers! Former head of the FIB!

FDR’s Uncle Joe. He knew how to find meddlers and put on a show trial.
