Global Elite Use 3 Giant Financial Companies To Control 88% Of The Corporations Listed On The S&P 500 – Activist Post

Posted by M. C. on June 4, 2021

For example, last month BlackRock and Vanguard were instrumental in installing two new members on ExxonMobil’s board of directors…

ExxonMobil did not want these new board members, but now they have been forced to take them.

And these new board members will help to ensure that ExxonMobil becomes more fully aligned with the climate agenda of the global elite.

https://www.activistpost.com/2021/06/global-elite-use-3-giant-financial-companies-to-control-88-of-the-corporations-listed-on-the-sp-500.html

By Michael Snyder

There is no question that large corporations absolutely dominate our society today.  They control what we eat, they control what we watch on television, they own most of the stores that we shop at, they provide the energy that our nation depends upon, and they make almost all of the products that we use.  Tens of millions of Americans make a living by serving these colossal firms, and at this point some of the biggest corporations are larger than many small countries.  But of course the corporations aren’t the top of the food chain.  They have owners, and there are 3 giant financial companies that the global elite use to control 88 percent of the corporations that are currently listed on the S&P 500.

The three financial companies that I am talking about are BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street.

According to CNN, those companies have a combined 15 trillion dollars in combined assets under management…

BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street manage a stunning $15 trillion in combined assets, equivalent to more than three-quarters the size of the US economy.

But that is actually an old number.

I wanted to come up with a newer number, and so I started digging.

According to Wikipedia, BlackRock had $8.67 trillion in assets under management as of January 2021…

BlackRock, Inc. is an American multinational investment management corporation based in New York City. Founded in 1988, initially as a risk management and fixed income institutional asset manager, BlackRock is the world’s largest asset manager, with $8.67 trillion in assets under management as of January 2021.[citation needed][6] BlackRock operates globally with 70 offices in 30 countries and clients in 100 countries.[7]

Vanguard is nearly as big.  According to Wikipedia, Vanguard had $6.2 trillion in assets under management as of January 2021…

The Vanguard Group, Inc. is an American registered investment advisor based in Malvern, Pennsylvania with about $6.2 trillion in global assets under management, as of January 31, 2020.[5] It is the largest provider of mutual funds and the second-largest provider of exchange-traded funds (ETFs) in the world after BlackRock’s iShares.[6] In addition to mutual funds and ETFs, Vanguard offers brokerage services, variable and fixed annuities, educational account services, financial planning, asset management, and trust services. Several mutual funds managed by Vanguard are ranked at the top of the list of US mutual funds by assets under management.[7]

While not as large as the other two, State Street had $3.1 trillion in assets under management as of the first month of this year.

Myths of the Mixed Economy | Mises Institute

Posted by M. C. on June 3, 2021

Today, no part of the economy is left untouched by the President’s budget and the swarm of regulatory agencies. Buttressed by most of the economics profession, the regulatory state today rules and ruins America. Communism lost, but social democracy won.

https://mises.org/library/myths-mixed-economy

Llewellyn H. Rockwell Jr.

The planned economy was all the rage in 1937, when Prentice-Hall published a 1,000-page tome on The Planned Society: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow: A Symposium by Thirty-Five Economists, Sociologists, and Statesmen. The “question that confronts us today is not if we shall plan, but how we shall plan,” wrote Lewis Mumford in the Foreword. All the contributors—Keynesian, socialist, communist, and fascist—agreed with that point, including such luminaries as Sidney Hook, Benito Mussolini, and Joseph Stalin.

But the book was honest. It linked Stalin and Keynes, fascism and the New Deal. The plans were not identical, of course, but all agreed on government “rationality” as versus the “chaos” of the free market.

Most of the authors advocated the “mixed economy,” Mises’s name for an admixture of capitalism and socialism. Such a combination, he showed, is necessarily unstable, and our own mixed economy is tilting towards statism, with such regulatory disasters in the last few years as the Clean Air Act, the Americans With Disabilities Act, and the Civil Rights Act.

Today, no part of the economy is left untouched by the President’s budget and the swarm of regulatory agencies. Buttressed by most of the economics profession, the regulatory state today rules and ruins America. Communism lost, but social democracy won.

In the American mixed economy, it is the job of the planner to: ensure “full employment” (as federal policies create joblessness); encourage technological innovation (not through markets, but through subsidies); ensure a “fair” distribution of wealth (rewarding parasites and punishing the productive); manage international trade (though it needs no more management than domestic trade); and keep “public goods” out of private hands (even though public ownership must always be less efficient than private).

The planner has taboos as well. He must never mention private property, praise the coordinative function of prices, criticize pressure groups unless they’re anti-big-government, be cynical about the uses of power, call for a tax cut, or identify the real source of prosperity as the free market.

Charles Schultze, President Carter’s chairman of the Council of Economic Advisers, adheres to these rules and taboos in his book and “guide to macroeconomics” Memos to the President. He sets out these rules for every policymaker to follow in the future.

In the entire work, he has not one good word to say about the market, private property, or the price system. His central assumption is that the government must manage the economy to prosperity. According to Schultze, we should believe that: the Federal Reserve protects the dollar, when our money has lost 94% of its value since the Fed was established;

Democrat Pilot And Republican Co-Pilot Argue Over How Fast They Should Fly Plane Into Ground | The Babylon Bee

Posted by M. C. on June 3, 2021

https://babylonbee.com/news/democrat-pilot-wants-to-crash-plane-at-high-speed-republican-co-pilot-recommends-crashing-at-lower-speed-instead

U.S.—According to alerts from the FAA, the flight crew of a Boeing 747 flying somewhere over the United States is locked in a dispute over how fast they should crash their plane into the ground.

Witnesses say the pilot, a Democrat, wants to fly the plane into the ground at 700 MPH.

The Republican co-pilot, however, has proposed crashing at a much more reasonable speed of 600 MPH.

“We need to be responsible here!” said First Officer Dan McTan, who prides himself in his Conservative values. “700 MPH is reckless and irresponsible! Crashing at 600 MPH will allow the crew and passengers a full 1.3 seconds of additional life before they are incinerated in a massive fireball! Let’s be reasonable!”

Pilot In Command Xanderillo Cruggsteen disagrees. “700 MPH is the way to go and you’re a racist!!!!” he responded with a loud and terrible shriek.

In the end, the crew members elected to dive into the earth below at 695 MPH. Thankfully, the Democrat pilot and Republican Co-Pilot each had very expensive parachutes and were able to bail out safely before everyone else went down.

US Troops Die For World Domination, Not Freedom – Caitlin’s Newsletter

Posted by M. C. on June 3, 2021

https://caitlinjohnstone.substack.com/p/us-troops-die-for-world-domination

Caitlin Johnstone

Vice President Kamala Harris spent the weekend under fire from Republicans, which of course means that Kamala Harris spent the weekend being criticized for the most silly, vapid reason you could possibly criticize Kamala Harris for.

Apparently the likely future president tweeted “Enjoy the long weekend,” a reference to the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, instead of gushing about fallen troops and sacrifice.

That’s it, that’s the whole entire story. That silly, irrelevant offense by one of the sleaziest people in the single most corrupt and murderous government on earth is the whole entire basis for histrionic headlines from conservative media outlets like this:Fox News @FoxNews’DISGUSTING’ DISRESPECT: Vice President Kamala Harris ignites outrage over ‘misfire’ Memorial Day tweet Vice President Kamala Harris under fire for ‘disrespectful’ tweetVice President Kamala Harris came under fire Saturday for posting a tweet about Memorial Weekend, but without mentioning the significance of the weekend.foxnews.com

Harris, the born politician, was quick to course correct.

“Throughout our history our service men and women have risked everything to defend our freedoms and our country,” the veep tweeted. “As we prepare to honor them on Memorial Day, we remember their service and their sacrifice.”

Which is of course complete bullshit. It has been generations since any member of the US military could be said to have served or sacrificed defending America or its freedoms, and that has been the case throughout almost the entirety of its history. If you are reading this it is statistically unlikely that you are of an age where any US military personnel died for any other reason than corporate profit and global domination, and if you are it’s almost certain you weren’t old enough to have had mature thoughts about it at the time.

Whenever you criticize the US war machine online within earshot of anyone who’s sufficiently propagandized, you will invariably be lectured about the second World War and how we’d all be speaking German or Japanese without the brave men who died for our freedom. This makes my point for me: the fact that apologists for US imperialism always need to reach all the way back through history to the cusp of living memory to find even one single example of the American military being used for purposes that weren’t evil proves that it most certainly is evil.

But this is one of the main reasons there are so very many movies and history documentaries made about World War Two: it’s an opportunity to portray US servicemen bravely fighting and dying for a noble cause without having to bend the truth beyond recognition. The other major reason is that focusing on the second World War allows members of the US empire to escape into a time when the Big Bad Guy on the world stage was someone else.

From the end of World War Two to the fall of the USSR, the US military was used to smash the spread of communism and secure geostrategic interests toward the ultimate end of engineering the collapse of the Soviet Union. After this was accomplished in 1991, US foreign policy officially shifted to preserving a unipolar world order by preventing the rise of any other superpower which could rival its might.

A 1992 article by The New York Times titled  “U.S. Strategy Plan Calls For Insuring No Rivals Develop“, reporting on a leaked document which describes a policy known as the Wolfowitz Doctrine after then-Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Paul Wolfowitz, reads as follows:

In a broad new policy statement that is in its final drafting stage, the Defense Department asserts that America’s political and military mission in the post-cold-war era will be to insure that no rival superpower is allowed to emerge in Western Europe, Asia or the territory of the former Soviet Union.

A 46-page document that has been circulating at the highest levels of the Pentagon for weeks, and which Defense Secretary Dick Cheney expects to release later this month, states that part of the American mission will be “convincing potential competitors that they need not aspire to a greater role or pursue a more aggressive posture to protect their legitimate interests.”

The classified document makes the case for a world dominated by one superpower whose position can be perpetuated by constructive behavior and sufficient military might to deter any nation or group of nations from challenging American primacy.

This is all US troops have been fighting and dying for since the Berlin Wall came down. Not “freedom”, not “democracy”, and certainly not the American people. Just continual uncontested domination of this planet at all cost: domination of its resources, its trade routes, its seas, its air, and its humans, no matter how many lives need to risked and snuffed out in order to achieve it. The US has killed millions and displaced tens of millions just since the turn of this century in the reckless pursuit of that goal.

And, as Smedley Butler spelled out 86 years ago in his still-relevant book War is a Racket, US military personnel have been dying for profit. Nothing gets the gears of industry turning like war, and nothing better creates chaotic wild west environments of shock and confusion during which more wealth and power can be grabbed. War profiteers pour immense resources into lobbying, think tanks and campaign donations to manipulate and bribe policy makers into making decisions which promote war and military expansionism, with astounding success. This is all entirely legal.

It’s important to spread awareness that this is all US troops have been dying for, because the fairy tale that they fight for freedom and for their countrymen is a major propaganda narrative used in military recruitment. While poverty plays a significant role in driving up enlistments as predatory recruiters target poor and middle class youth promising them a future in the nation with the worst income inequality in the industrialized world, the fact that the aggressively propagandized glorification of military “service” makes it a more esteemed career path than working at a restaurant or a grocery store means people are more likely to enlist.

Without all that propaganda deceiving people into believing that military work is something virtuous, military service would be the most shameful job anyone could possibly have; other stigmatized jobs like sex work would be regarded as far more noble. You’d be less reluctant to tell your extended family over Christmas that you’re a janitor at a seedy massage parlor than that you’ve enlisted in the US military, because instead of congratulating and praising you, your Uncle Murray would look at you and say, “So you’re gonna be killing kids for crude oil?”

And that’s exactly how it should be. Continuing to uphold the lie that US troops fight and die for a good cause is helping to ensure a steady supply of teenagers to feed into the gears of the imperial war machine. Stop feeding into the lie that the war machine is worth killing and being killed for. Not out of disrespect for the dead, but out of reverence for the living.

Bernie Sanders’s case for raising the minimum wage falls apart – American Thinker

Posted by M. C. on June 3, 2021

Bernie doesn’t seem to realize that before the advent of this vicious legislation, in the 1930s, the unemployment rate of whites and blacks, youngsters and the middle-aged was about equal; all were within a few points of each other.  But due to the minimum wage law, the unemployment rate of teens is double that of adults, and blacks suffer twice the rate of unemployment of whites.  Black young people suffer from quadruple the unemployment rate of middle-aged whites!

Why is this?  It is due to the fact that wages are not determined by employer generosity, as socialists like Bernie seem to believe.  Rather, these levels are predicated upon productivity.  LeBron James earns a large remuneration not because the Lakers are nice guys.  The person who pushes a broom or washes dishes is at the bottom of the economic pyramid not due to skinflint bosses.  Those just starting out in the labor force have lower productivity than others with more experience.  The point is that black teens are priced out of the market by this malicious legislation Sanders is supporting.

https://www.americanthinker.com/blog/2021/04/bernie_sanderss_case_for_raising_the_minimum_wage_falls_apart.html

By Walter E. Block

“[I]n my view, it all comes down to this.  Are you on the side of the working people in America who desperately need a raise?  Or are you on the side of the wealthy and the powerful who want to continue exploiting their workers and paying starvation wages?  It ain’t more complicated than that.”

This is a comment from my high school fellow track team buddy, the junior senator from Vermont.

Bernie Sanders is wrong; it is quite a bit more complicated than that.  If it were that simple, why, oh, why do advocates of this pernicious legislation merely call for a stinking, lousy, cheap-skatey $15 per hour?  Wouldn’t an hourly $25, or $50, or $150 show even more support for the working class?  The senator from Vermont is forever waxing eloquent about a “living wage.”  Surely these other figures are more “livable” than his $15!

But even with regard to that niggardly $15, Bernie says this: “I am offering an amendment today with Majority Leader Schumer, Senator Patty Murray, Senator Ron Wyden, and many others in this Chamber to gradually increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2025.”

But why gradually?  According to his lights, the poor are suffering, grievously, by presently being underpaid.  Why, oh, why do they have to wait until 2025 to be completely rescued?

Senator Sanders says: “Nobody in America can survive on $7.25 an hour, $9 an hour, or $12 an hour.  We need an economy in which all of our workers earn at least a living wage.”  How does he square this with his espoused gradualism?

If there were someone in need of a full dose of penicillin, Dr. B. Sanders would administer it to him right away, this minute.  He would not do it gradually, bit by bit, more each year until the full dose finally reached the patient in, of all years, 2025.  Enquiring minds want to know about this present postponement.

In Bernie’s recent Senate speech, he also said this: “For too long, Congress has responded to the needs of the wealthy and the powerful.  Now it is time to respond to the needs of working families — black and white, Latino, Native American[.]”

Suppose I were to pass a law saying black kids had to be paid at least $10,000 per hour.  Would I be doing them a favor?  Surely, people with even a modicum of common sense can see that none of them, ever, would be added to any payroll.

Bernie favors foreign aid to poor countries, right?  Why not end this on humane grounds and just tell them to institute, or raise, their minimum wage levels?  Evidently, he does not have all that much confidence in this nostrum of his.

All men of goodwill should use their best efforts not to raise the level of the federal minimum wage from its present $7.25, nor even to stand pat on this, nor even to lower it.  Instead, they should call for its total elimination.  At present, it ensures that those with productivity levels of less than that are forever unemployable.  Why would anyone pay this amount to someone with a productivity level of $5?  He’d lose $2.25!

Bernie has shown courage in not backing away from socialism when this policy was far less popular than at present and at calling for voting rights not only for ex-cons, but for those presently incarcerated.  He should show some moxie now!  His voice on this issue is so powerful that he alone can turn the tide and end the permanent unemployment of the least skillful in our society.

The Rutherford Institute :: Make Way for the Snitch State: The All-Seeing Fourth Branch of Government | By John W. Whitehead & Nisha Whitehead |

Posted by M. C. on June 3, 2021

https://www.rutherford.org/publications_resources/john_whiteheads_commentary/make_way_for_the_snitch_state_the_all_seeing_fourth_branch_of_government

By John W. Whitehead & Nisha Whitehead

“It is just when people are all engaged in snooping on themselves and one another that they become anesthetized to the whole process. As information itself becomes the largest business in the world, data banks know more about individual people than the people do themselves. The more the data banks record about each one of us, the less we exist.”—Marshall McLuhan, From Cliche To Archetype

We’re being spied on by a domestic army of government snitches, spies and techno-warriors.

This government of Peeping Toms is watching everything we do, reading everything we write, listening to everything we say, and monitoring everything we spend.

Beware of what you say, what you read, what you write, where you go, and with whom you communicate, because it is all being recorded, stored, and catalogued, and will be used against you eventually, at a time and place of the government’s choosing.

This far-reaching surveillance has paved the way for an omnipresent, militarized fourth branch of government—the Surveillance State—that came into being without any electoral mandate or constitutional referendum.

Indeed, long before the National Security Agency (NSA) became the agency we loved to hate, the Justice Department, the FBI, and the Drug Enforcement Administration were carrying out their own secret mass surveillance on an unsuspecting populace.

Even agencies not traditionally associated with the intelligence community are part of the government’s growing network of snitches and spies.

Just about every branch of the government—from the Postal Service to the Treasury Department and every agency in between—now has its own surveillance sector, authorized to spy on the American people. For instance, the U.S. Postal Service, which has been photographing the exterior of every piece of paper mail for the past 20 years, is also spying on Americans’ texts, emails and social media posts. Headed up by the Postal Service’s law enforcement division, the Internet Covert Operations Program (iCOP) is reportedly using facial recognition technology, combined with fake online identities, to ferret out potential troublemakers with “inflammatory” posts. The agency claims the online surveillance, which falls outside its conventional job scope of processing and delivering paper mail, is necessary to help postal workers avoid “potentially volatile situations.”

Then there are the fusion and counterterrorism centers that gather all of the data from the smaller government spies—the police, public health officials, transportation, etc.—and make it accessible for all those in power. And that doesn’t even begin to touch on the complicity of the corporate sector, which buys and sells us from cradle to grave, until we have no more data left to mine.

It’s not just what we say, where we go and what we buy that is being tracked.

We’re being surveilled right down to our genes,

What To Say When Someone Asks You To Provide a Doctor’s Note For a Face Mask Exemption – LewRockwell

Posted by M. C. on June 3, 2021

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2021/06/allan-stevo/what-to-say-when-someone-asks-you-to-provide-a-doctors-note-for-a-face-mask-exemption/

By Allan Stevo

A reader writes:

Hi Allan,

My daughter’s school’s written mask policy only permits a “physician note” exception.

My wife & I don’t have regular physicians. We haven’t had to visit one for 3~4 years (thank God).

Do we lie? Forge a note? Do we spend $150 on doctor visits that may or may not result in permission slips?

Curious how you’d handle this.

Thank you for your incredible service to the cause of liberty,

-A Caring Father

—

Thank you for sending this policy and more importantly, thank you for reading this policy. You may have been the first person to have read it. Keeping that detail in mind, I’d take a deep breath, remind yourself that everyone is trying to feed you a narrative. Just start here:

1.) Presume the other is ignorant of their own policy.

I really mean this. Don’t negotiate against yourself. It’s good that you are fully aware of the policy. Now make sure that you are clear about what you want and don’t for a second make assumptions that cause you to negotiate against yourself (and your daughter).

I think a phone conversation is far more effective than an email. This email, which you can also copy and paste, contains approximately what you need to say by phone:

Dear Principal Skinner,

I’d like to attend Wednesday’s graduation. I see you have a face mask policy. I’m unable to wear a face mask safely, so I want to give you advanced notice that I not be wearing one at my daughter’s graduation. Please confirm that you have received this.

Respectfully,

Allan Stevo

2.) If asked “Do you have a doctor’s note?” say “What exactly do you need on the doctor’s note?”

Whether or not you have a doctor’s note, don’t be quick to give up that territory. Draw firm boundaries and make the other person explain themselves rather than you being put in a situation where you have to explain yourself.

3.) Liberally state “That doesn’t work for me,” and then be silent. I really mean that.

The more you say this phrase, the more people tend to become subservient. When you are given an ultimatum or have a road block put in front of you, being able to kindly, gently, and sincerely say “That doesn’t work for me,” can be very effective.

4.) Spend as little time as possible with those who can’t bend the policy for you. Ideally, you will only ever talk to the decision maker, but that is easier said than done.

If that approach described above doesn’t work, once you get the decision maker on the phone, try that again.

5.) Gentle ridicule may work, with the right person.

With the decision maker, and only with the decision maker, it may be effective to gently ridicule the policy to get a little leeway. This can be done with sincere questions. It must be gentle.

Why do you require a doctors note?

The CDC, state, and county policy don’t require doctors note.

Where did you get the idea that a doctors note was a legitimate requirement to put on someone?

What was the motivation to require a doctors note?

What does the doctor’s note have to say in order for it to be acceptable?

Who determines if a doctor’s note is acceptable?

Can I please have a copy of the written policy on what is acceptable in a doctors note?

What does the school define as a doctor?

Don’t read down this list like a machine gun, but pepper them in to honest dialogue. This can really help soften a rigid policy.

The above list is an example of questions that will be both a sincere attempt at understanding the policy and effective at poking holes in the policy.

6.) Don’t see yourself as a pariah, recognize the benevolent work you are doing.

What’s so good about this approach is that you are just shedding light on what is a very poorly thought out policy that they want you to believe is sound. It’s not sound. It’s poorly thought out and untested. Pressure often makes policies better. The face mask policies have largely been protected from all resistance and will all remain awful until pressure is exerted against them.

Someone along the food chain will think in their head “they caught us, the policy is bogus, we just hoped no one would question it, and it would be allowed to stand.”

That’s what you’re doing with questions like this.

A good face mask policy is the face mask policy that largely existed among free people before April 3, 2020: wear whatever you want on your face anytime you want and don’t ever put anything on your face that you don’t want on it. Given the fact that face masks don’t work to prevent the spread of a respiratory virus and also given the fact that many in the USA seek for it to be a free country, that’s the right face mask policy for fighting Covid-19. Your strategic resistance is helping to craft better policy more befitting the free and logical.

7.) Don’t argue the science with someone who doesn’t even understand the scientific method, which is basically every person involved in enforcing these policies, regardless of what fancy credentials they possess.

IF YOUR CHOOSE TO TRY THIS METHOD, DO NOT SAY THAT FACE MASKS DON’T WORK. You are likely speaking to a mental midget trained to follow a flow chart. Just use his flow chart to your advantage. When you go off the flowchart, you cause him cognitive dissonance and internal strife. No matter how cool he seems, deal with the issue using his flowchart and have that resolved before you go down the route of evangelizing about how much better your version of the science is than the trillion dollar media machine and the cadre of establishment experts who have spent the last 14 months prepping this man for exactly this conversation about what a discredited wing-nut you must be for holding any of these ideas.

8.) If you really need to get legalistic, this is a direction that could work.

There are lots of legal arguments to make against face masks. I don’t consider any of them better than the material above.

I would almost never write a letter like this, but if pressed, I would have a conversation in which I communicate this.

Dear Principal Skinner,

I’m writing to inform you that your face mask exemption creates an unlawful burden for me.

I am unable to wear a face mask safely.  I do not see a doctor regularly and don’t even know what doctor would at this point write a note for a condition that he has not been treating for years.

I seek to use your services and to do so unmasked.

Respectfully,

Allan Stevo

This statement is really looking for trouble and opening a can of worms if sent by email. It is unlikely to get this matter any closer to resolution any more quickly. It’s possible that it could work by phone.

9.) What if they elevate “the policy” as some sort of deity that is not to be challenged?

The above I sometimes use. This below is the technique that I almost always pursue and which almost always works whenever anyone is trying to elevate a policy as if it is some sort of deity.

Speak to another human, but do so directly and with authority.

Ask questions like this. (This is useful, by the way, for every policy on any topic):

Who created this policy?

When was it created?

Who agreed to it ?

Who is able to change the policy?

A summary of useful tools

If you are communicating with someone on the phone and are at a loss, these are really useful tools:

1.) “I’m unable to wear a face mask safely.”

2.) “I’m coming Wednesday.”

3.) “That doesn’t work for me.”

4.) “What can you do for me?”

This is a good excuse to find a good doctor.

A doctor’s note can provide confidence. I don’t recommend you show anyone your doctor’s note. There’s almost no time that it would actually be required. However, this policy is a great opportunity for you to find a doctor who will go to bat for you. The medical tyranny is not over. Your family may one day need an upstanding, brave doctor who rejects the brainwashing.

Be ready to reject the face mask. Allan Stevo’s bestselling “Face Masks in One Lesson” prepares you for that, as does his LewRockwell.com writing and his newsletter of videos, classes, and activism opportunities at RealStevo.com.

The BBC reports the comments by Sir John Bell, a Chair of Medicine at the University of Oxford, member of the Office for Strategic Coordination of Health Research (OSCHR), and a leading member of the government’s vaccine taskforce.

In an interview with BBC Radio Four, Bell urged that “If we scamper down a rabbit hole every time we see a new variant, we’re going to spend a long time huddled away.”

Bell further asserted that the virus “is here to stay probably forever”, adding that there is a “need to get a bit of balance in the discussion.”

Bell said the government needs to focus on reducing “hospitalisations, serious disease and deaths” rather than the fruitless task of reducing cases through lockdowns and other restrictions.

The immunologist urged that the focus needs to be on the suppression of the virus “around the world because otherwise we’re just going to sit here and get slammed by repeated variants that come in the door.”

Bell noted that the UK’s “numbers don’t look too intimidating” and that he is “encouraged” by the fact that no new deaths were recorded Tuesday for the first time in over a year.

His comments come amid a rash of government advisors suggesting that the slated June 21 reopening of society should be delayed.

EconomicPolicyJournal.com: Defending the Shopper Who Leaves the Shopping Cart in the Parking Lot

Posted by M. C. on June 3, 2021

https://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2021/05/defending-shopper-who-leaves-shopping.html

See Dr. Block’s discussion of litter in the private sector in Defending the Undefendable. Maybe people want their carts retrieved as a convenience—which may increase the number employed by a grocery store.

To return the cart might cause a cart retriever to have to seek other employment, which would be less desirable because he chose the cart retriever job in the first place.
