Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) used a congressional hearing on Wednesday to air criticisms of Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg‘s response to the Norfolk Southern train derailment disaster in East Palestine, Ohio, early last month.

The Texas Republican argued how a “delayed and disjointed response by the Biden administration” has not allayed the concerns of local residents terrified by the health and environmental threats posed by the so-called controlled burn of toxic chemicals that spilled out of tanker cars.

“It took Secretary Buttigieg 10 days to even acknowledge the derailment,” Cruz said. “After he was called out, he did a 180 and tried to sell a slew of big government regulatory proposals, desperate to disguise the failure of the administration to act sooner.”

Blunders followed, according to Cruz, who cited the secretary’s mention of a particular withdrawn brake rule as an example of why the Transportation Department faced “constraints.” Illustrating the problem with that comment, Cruz pointed out, was that the Biden administration’s own chairwoman of the National Transportation Safety Board, Jennifer Homendy, had to then go and explain how it was “FALSE” to say it would have prevented the East Palestine derailment.

“Undeterred, Secretary Buttigieg then released a laundry list of regulatory proposals, many of which had little to no connection to the East Palestine derailment,” Cruz added.

“In an effort to further distract from his own failed response, Secretary Buttigieg has suggested that President Trump was responsible for the derailment in East Palestine,” the senator said.

The aftermath of the freight train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, persists, with residents and rail workers reporting illnesses and the Biden administration facing criticism regarding an inadequate federal response. The 38-car derailment occurred one month ago and resulted in the release of vinyl chloride into the air via a controlled burn, and questions swirl about why testing for dioxins wasn’t conducted immediately after the derailment.

Earlier this week, EPA Administrator Michael Regan visited East Palestine. He addressed reporters about the ongoing situation. Journalist Nick Sorter asked the commissioner:

“Mr. Commissioner, let me ask you really quick, would you allow your children to touch the water? We’ve seen the rainbow sheen, we’ve seen all of these chemicals popping up from the bottom of the streams that these kids used to play in. Would you allow your kids anywhere close to these streams right now?”

Regan’s response:

“I would not. I’m a father of a 9-year-old. I think we have to all agree we wish this accident didn’t occur, but the accident occurred and as a result some of our creeks and streams have pollution in them.”

Biden finally visits East Palestine, asks, “Where is Hamas? Where is Yasser Arafat?”

Politico called it as disaster. The Washington Post hinted that Democratic Party leaders were setting the President up, in order to show he shouldn’t seek a second term.

The DNC’s non-reelection problem, Joe is good with promising free stuff. Who will Ze/Zer be?

38 days after the train disaster in Ohio, President Biden finally made a brief visit to East Palestine.

He immediately asked where Hamas was, and indicated he was supposed to sit down and talk with the late Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat.

Aides tried to usher the President back into his limo, but Biden refused. “I’ve got to show my guts,” he said. “This is dangerous territory and I’m not going to run away. I’m not scared. I grew up as a boy around many Palestinians, and they took me into their homes.”

The small press group accompanying the President asked him questions, hoping to steer him back on track:

“What do you think about the train derailment, sir?”

“The EPA says the water is safe to drink. Are you going to take a sip?”

“Should freight trains be allowed to carry hazardous materials through small towns?”

Biden said, “You’re not going to rope me into a discussion of hazmat terrorist attacks. The whole point of my conference with Hamas is de-escalating violence in the region. We still have friends in Israel, you know.”

An awkward silence followed.

Mary Moffet (formerly Mark Mason), a reporter for the New York Times, said, “Mr. President, a train spilled vinyl chloride here in OHIO, and a few of the residents are still concerned.”

“I know that,” Mr. Biden snapped. “The State Department told them to leave the country and come back to the US, but they refused. It’s not our fault.”

An aide grabbed the President by the shoulder and led him away from the reporters. After a brief conversation, Biden walked back to the group.

“You know,” he said, “I visit many countries, and sometimes my briefers supply me with the wrong schedule. Of course I know there was a train accident here, and people who were commuting from work were injured. It’s possible the safety latches on the train doors malfunctioned, and people were thrown clear when the brakes were applied. We’re going to look into that.”

Another awkward silence.

Biden continued: “Pete, my transportation secretary, was here. He assures me guidelines for equity, diversity, and inclusion will be followed in hiring people to do train repairs and clean-up. So there are job opportunities for local residents. I’m always asked, ‘What if the local population is basically white?’ And I always answer, ‘That’s what immigration is for.’”

Jill Biden, wearing what looked like a curtain from a hotel conference room, stepped forward and put her arm around the President. She said, “During my medical training, I studied these chemicals. They disperse rapidly, but they can cause temporary disorientation, particularly if a person hasn’t been getting enough sleep. The President has been on a whirlwind tour. His trip to the Ukraine was very emotional. No more questions, please.”

And that was Mr. Biden’s visit to East Palestine.

Famed activist Erin Brockovich has joined the throng of people investigating the train derailment-turned environmental disaster in East Palestine, Ohio, and she said she believes President Joe Biden’s administration is hiding something from the American people.

Brockovich, who has also spoken to CNN and MSNBC about her experience interviewing the people who were directly affected by the derailment and subsequent fires and explosion, told Fox News host Tucker Carlson on Friday that Biden’s response to the disaster has fallen far short of what it should be. And to make matters worse, she said, the people there believe that the president has left them to fend for themselves.

“We’re pushing a month now and they still don’t have any answers. It’s very obvious something’s really gone wrong out here,” Brockovich began. “And I’ve been out here down on the ground and they’re really frustrated, why they don’t feel that their agencies or their administration cares about what’s happened to the community. So it is very apparent they are, are concerned and not being seen or heard.”

Carlson pressed Brockovich to elaborate, asking whether she believed there was specific information that the Biden administration was hiding from the people — and she seemed to confirm that she did.

“Yeah, there is. And I mean, it’s like, Oh my gosh, come on. Oh, we’re out here. What, 44,000 fish are dead? We’ve seen them. We’ve seen them out here today aerating the creeks. They’re removing stuff. That, the wellheads are locked. What’s up?” Brockovich continued, arguing that it was no different than coal miners keeping a “canary in the mine shaft” to determine whether the air was safe to breathe.

“Send the canary down there, it dies: Might not be good for humans. You have dead fish: might not be good for humans. You have dead animals: might not be good for humans. You’ve sent a horrible mixed message to this community. Drink the water. Don’t drink the water. Safe. Not safe,” she added. “It’s — It’s horribly confusing and extremely frustrating to them. And something actually has gone wrong here. And there’s information that has yet to come forward, and the story will continue to unfold.”

CDC Alters Webpage Days after Ohio Train Derailment

Made Vinyl Chloride Look Less Toxic

Archives of a CDC webpage show that for the first time in 9 years, the agency edited toxicity information on vinyl chloride just days after Ohio train derailment—but HHS and the EPA are in on it too.

Reports are circulating on Twitter with claims the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) changed its guidelines on vinyl chloride days before the toxic release of chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio. But the reality is that the CDC was not the only agency involved, and the timing of the changes is in question.

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and CDC worked together in a coordinated effort to alter vinyl chloride’s toxicity guidelines shortly before and after the train derailment in Ohio that released 1.1 million pounds of toxic chemicals into the air, soil and water to make the chemical look less harmful.

In addition, just three months ago, East Palestine adopted a pilot program to respond to emergency events where digital IDs were given to residents to track long-term health problems like “difficulty breathing.”

Timeline: (1) HHS and the CDC, in coordination with the EPA, publish an update to the vinyl chloride toxicity profile in January 2023 for the first time in 17 years. (2) Digital IDs on Jan. 26 are rolled out to East Palestine and a nearby township. (3) Train derails on Feb. 3 in East Palestine, Ohio, and a million pounds of highly toxic and potentially lethal vinyl chloride are released into the environment. (4) CDC alters its webpage on or around Feb. 6, 2023, on vinyl chloride, omitting key sections on toxicity. This webpage had not been reviewed for nine years. (5) Health and environmental officials deem the area safe. (6) Lawsuits are filed.

HHS, in January 2023, published a 293-page document called “Toxicological Profile of Vinyl Chloride,” which was prepared in accordance with guidelines developed by the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR) and the EPA.

The original guidelines on vinyl chloride were published in the Federal Register in August 1989 and were (prior to Jan. 2023) most recently updated in 2006. So for 17 years, the toxicological profile of vinyl chloride had not been altered.

According to HHS, the ATSDR peer-reviewed toxicological profile of vinyl chloride “succinctly characterizes” its toxicologic and adverse health effects—and identifies available toxicological information, epidemiologic evaluations and the level of exposure that presents a significant risk to human health.

ATSDR toxicological guidelines are published by the CDC under the auspices of HHS and drafted in coordination with the EPA.

The CDC’s FAQ webpage for vinyl chloride was recently modified as well. An archived version captured three days after the East Palestine train derailment shows a longer, more detailed FAQ section on vinyl chloride that included a section on the dangers of the chemical in children, recommendations made by the federal government to protect human health and a lower level of lethal exposure.

A current version of the same webpage omits this information, expands the level of human exposure (meaning you can suddenly be exposed to more of a highly toxic substance before you experience detrimental effects and includes a laughable new section on how to protect yourself and your family from vinyl chloride.

Here is a screenshot of the Feb. 6, 2023, archived version of the CDC’s FAQ webpage on vinyl chloride captured three days after the East Palestine train derailment. Notice on the right-hand side of the page it includes the sections “How can vinyl chloride affect children?” and “Has the federal government made recommendations to protect human health?”

The Largest Environmental Disaster in US History? – LewRockwell

Not Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, who made an appearance on Monday and blamed the country’s infrastructure problems on COVID and didn’t say a word about the derailments. He preferred to complain that there were too many white men in the construction business.

With all of the Chyna balloons and UFOs going around, unless you live in East Palestine, Ohio or if you consume a lot of independent news, you probably don’t know that the US is currently experiencing what may be the largest ecological disaster in its history.

And I’m not talking about the fake Climate Change catastrophism promoted by the World Economic Forum, I’m talking about the ~100,000 gallons or 1,000,000 pounds of vinyl chloride leaked, spilled and burned, due to a train derailment in this rural town of 5,000 people, where acid rain and phosgene is expected to decimate a wide swathe of the region’s ecology. The devastation will likely force migrations of people, many of whom will get cancer later on. This is an American Chernobyl.

Dioxins result whenever chlorinated organics like vinyl chloride are burned. Dioxins are degraded slowly in the environment, with a half-life of 25-100 years in the soil. They cause cancers, reproductive harm, damage the immune system and they disrupt hormones.

The toxic plume of airborne hydrochloric acid and dioxin from the East Palestine “controlled burn” has a radius of over 200 miles encompassing Pittsburgh, Detroit, Cleveland and Toronto. For the past week, it’s been raining down over some of the most fertile farmland in the United States, killing farm animals and aquatic life.

The entire Ohio River Basin is affected, where over 30 million people or 10% of the US population lives, including the metropolitan areas of Louisville KY, Cincinnati OH, Indianapolis, IN and Nashville, TN. The Ohio River, alone provides drinking water to over 5 million people. And it drains into the Mississippi, affecting all those downstream.

It’s not known what caused the derailment but security camera footage taken 20 miles away from the scene of the accident in Salem, OH shows sparks and flames shooting beneath one of the cars. Hot box detectors should have triggered the emergency brake but that doesn’t appear to have happened. The NTSB is investigating the trains data and audio recordings and the hot box detectors along the route.

The national news is not covering this event and there is a major cover-up in progress. Last week, Evan Lambert, an independent news reporter was arrested for simply and unobtrusively reporting on the derailment.
