A Preemptive Strike Against an Orwellian Future

Posted by M. C. on December 20, 2023

by Nick Giambruno

That’s precisely why the US government stopped the publication of this information. They threatened the MIT researchers with federal prison if they proceeded under the pretext that the US government considered cryptography a military munition. Those who distributed it would be treated no differently than arms traffickers.

Orwellian Future

“If I disappear, make sure this gets out.”

That’s what Mark Miller, a young student at Yale, told his closest friends.

He knew what he was sitting on had revolutionary potential and that powerful people had disappeared others for much less.

Miller was steadfast. He wanted to get this information out, even if it was over his dead body.

In 1977, a group of brilliant researchers at MIT made an astonishing discovery—public-key cryptography.

It was a mathematical system for encrypting information so that only the intended recipient could read it. It would otherwise take millions of years for the world’s most powerful supercomputers to crack.

Cryptography, or the practice of encoding information, is as old as civilization.

One of the oldest known cryptography uses dates back to around 600 BC when the ancient Spartans would pass encrypted messages on thin papyrus sheets. To decrypt the message, the recipient could wrap the papyrus around a scytale (a cylinder of varying dimensions).

The words written on the papyrus itself were gibberish. But you could decrypt the message if you had the right scytale. This is how the Spartans sent and received secret military plans.

Today, computers allow for radically more sophisticated cryptography.

That’s why the discovery of public-key cryptography was a development of historical significance.

Never before had unbreakable cryptography been available to the average person. It had always been a government monopoly, and they didn’t want to give it up.

The MIT researchers broke that monopoly in 1977.

The average person could now use public-key cryptography to preserve the privacy of their communications from anyone, including the world’s most powerful governments.

Public-key cryptography altered the status quo between the rulers and the ruled. It was similar to the invention of gunpowder or the printing press.

Hungary PM Orbán: Brussels Is Creating An Orwellian World In Front Of Our Eyes

Posted by M. C. on October 6, 2023

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán took to platform X to point out what he says is the “Orwellian world” the European Union is creating, including promoting war via a facility meant for peace and attempting to curtail media as a form of freedom.

“Brussels is creating an Orwellian world in front of our eyes. They buy and supply weapons through the #EuropeanPeaceFacility. They want to control the media through the #MediaFreedomAct. We didn’t fight the communists to end up in 1984!” wrote Orban.

Orbán is referring to the European Peace Facility, which is responsible for transferring billions in weapons to Ukrainian forces, a move that Orbán argues has only prolonged the war and cost thousands of Ukrainian lives.

According to the European Peace Facility’s own website (bold text added by original authors),

“On 26 June 2023, the Council adopted a decision to increase the overall financial ceiling of the European Peace Facility (EPFby €4.061 billion (in current prices, or €3.5 billion in 2018 prices). The overall financial ceiling now totals more than €12 billion (in current prices).

On 20 March 2023, in a joint session gathering EU foreign affairs and defense ministers, the Council agreed on the three-track proposal put forward by the High Representative and Commissioner Breton. This proposal outlines how to urgently provide Ukraine with artillery ammunition, either coming from existing stocks or jointly procured.

Orbán is referring to specific terms developed by Orwell in his most famous novel, “1984,” which describes how a fictional dystopian regime uses words to mislead the people into accepting the power of the party.

Democrats Once Opposed the Post-September 11th Expansion of the Surveillance State

Posted by M. C. on September 12, 2023

The Dept. of Homeland Security, once viewed as an Orwellian power grab, is now championed by Democrats to police “dangerous” political speech.

https://www.leefang.com/p/democrats-once-opposed-the-post-september?utm_campaign=email-post&r=iw8dv&utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

Lee Fang

In the wake of the September 11th terror attacks, President George W. Bush created the Department of Homeland Security, a new sprawling federal agency with over 170,000 employees and new intelligence powers dedicated to domestic national security.

At the inception of this agency, Democratic lawmakers challenged its authority and raised concerns that this consolidation of government power would jeopardize civil liberties.

Senator Russ Feingold, D-Wisc., led the opposition. Feingold criticized the formation of DHS, stating it came “at the expense of unnecessarily undermining our privacy rights” and “weakening protections against unwarranted government intrusion into the lives of ordinary Americans.”

Representative Chris Bell, D-Tex., fumed at the agency and warned against the creation of an “Orwellian surveillance state” that would be used to settle “partisan political” disputes.

Civil libertarian opposition once held sway within the party. Democrats worked closely with the ACLU and other privacy groups to question DHS powers, particularly around data mining, surveillance, and interference into domestic politics.

The fear that the newly created agency would weaponize homeland security concerns to advance partisan politics quickly materialized in the 2004 elections. Tom Ridge, after serving as the head of the agency, wrote that the Bush administration officials pressured him to raise the DHS terror threat level just before voting got underway in a bid to influence the electoral outcome.

Even as recently as 2012, House Democrats raised concerns in Congress about DHS violating American civil rights and privacy rights by inappropriately monitoring First Amendment-protected speech on social media. “I am looking forward to learning from the witnesses exactly how DHS uses social media and what DHS is doing to make sure that in its use of social media, it is not being perceived as being a Big Brother,” said Representative Jackie Speier, D-Calif., during an oversight hearing over the Department of Homeland Security’s social media surveillance efforts.

But as the threat of Islamic terror attacks has diminished, the Department of Homeland Security has pivoted and recalibrated its reach, finding new political support for its growth.

Schiff: GDP Spin Is Orwellian Doublespeak

Posted by M. C. on May 4, 2022

Nothing to do with upcoming elections

Via SchiffGold.com,

https://www.zerohedge.com/economics/schiff-gdp-spin-orwellian-doublespeak

Despite all the talk about a “strong economy,” nobody was expecting a blistering hot GDP for the first quarter. The consensus was for around a 1% gain. As it turned out, it was even worse than expected. GDP shrank in Q1, contracting by 1.4%.

Despite the awful number, the mainstream spun it as a positive. Peter Schiff called it an outrageous positive spin on negative GDP and a great example of Orwellian doublespeak.

New York Times headline proclaimed, “GDP Report Shows US Economy Shrank, Masking a Broader Recovery

Basically, the NYT and others in the mainstream media are claiming the economy is really strong. You just can’t see that strength because it’s hidden behind this weak economy. Peter wondered out loud what in the hell they are talking about.

The first point to consider is that of negative GDP in one quarter means we’re halfway to a recession. A recession is defined as two consecutive quarters of contracting GDP.

Jerome Powell and the other central bankers at the Federal Reserve have hung their hats on the fact that the US has a super-strong economy. They claim the economy is strong enough to handle rate hikes and quantitative tightening without spinning into a deep recession. Peter asks the operative question.

If the economy is so strong, why is it contracting? How is a -1.4% GDP a strong economy?”

People Don’t Understand How Unfree We Already Are – by Caitlin Johnstone – Caitlin’s Newsletter

Posted by M. C. on September 27, 2021

If our information is valuable enough to make Facebook into a trillion-dollar company via surveillance capitalism, we may be absolutely certain that our information is also valuable enough for opaque government agencies to work on gathering our information for its own purposes.

https://caitlinjohnstone.substack.com/p/people-dont-understand-how-unfree

Caitlin Johnstone

The biggest and most widespread blind spot among those who oppose totalitarian control by the powerful is the assumption that it has not already been achieved.

We’ve been so busy watching out for the next overtly totalitarian dictatorship that wants to put the jackboot on our necks we never noticed the covert totalitarians sliding the shackles around our minds.

Everyone thinks about the abusers who beat their spouses, but not the abusers who dominate their spouses’ minds with psychological manipulation.

Everyone thinks about psychopathic killers prowling the streets, but not the psychopathic killers who rule our world via mass-scale manipulation.

Conspiracy analysts warn that the government is trying to give everyone a social credit score to force us all to comply with the agendas of the powerful, in nations where mass-scale narrative management through the media and online algorithms already manipulates everyone into complying with the agendas of the powerful.

People assume that they aren’t already behaving exactly how the powerful want them to behave within a civilization whose political, monetary and economic systems are already completely under the control of the powerful.

People think they are free just because they can go and buy whatever they want in an economy rigged for the powerful using money rigged for the powerful, because they can say whatever they want on internet platforms whose algorithms are manipulated by the powerful, because they can vote for a politician who only got on the ballot by being owned by the powerful.

People think they are free because the system let them elect a “populist” like Donald Trump, even after that “populist” spent four years doing nothing but advancing the interests of the powerful.

People think they are free because the system lets them elect “progressives” like Bernie Sanders and AOC, even though those “progressives” always stop short when it comes time to challenge real power.

People spent generations arguing for the right to own guns so they can defend themselves against tyranny while the iron bars of tyranny were quietly being constructed around them the entire time.

Western leftists are so busy arguing with each other that they haven’t noticed that the left has been so effectively sabotaged, hijacked, subverted and neutered in our society that it is now little more than a glorified group chat.

Silicon Valley megacorporations have intimate relationships with powerful government agencies and those agencies are almost certainly harvesting everyone’s data to fine-tune their propaganda operations on the public based on what our information tells them about our thoughts and feelings on subjects relevant to status quo power agendas.

If our information is valuable enough to make Facebook into a trillion-dollar company via surveillance capitalism, we may be absolutely certain that our information is also valuable enough for opaque government agencies to work on gathering our information for its own purposes.

The science of modern propaganda has been in research and development for more than a century, which is an eternity when you think of all the advances in other military technologies that have been achieved during that time. They’re only getting better and better at this, and now the internet has given them unprecedented access to the inner workings of our collective psychology.

A wife who’s been psychologically dominated into doing everything her husband wants doesn’t notice she’s being abused, because she isn’t being beaten into doing those things; she thinks she’s doing what she wants to do.

A population that’s been psychologically dominated into doing everything the powerful want doesn’t notice that it is being tyrannized, because it isn’t being forced to do those things at gunpoint; people think they are doing what they want to do.

None of the people warning of Orwellian dystopia get it: we’re already there. We’re already marching in perfect alignment with what our rulers desire for us. We just haven’t noticed because we’re still able to eat McDonald’s and watch internet porn.

They’re still tightening the bolts in various ways to make sure we don’t escape our prison, but make no mistake: those prison walls are already fully constructed, and have been for a while now.

The walls aren’t physical; the chains are affixed to our minds. But what is the functional difference between a populace which obeys the powerful because it is forced to and a populace which obeys the powerful because it was manipulated into wanting to?

We are trapped. We are checkmated. At least, as long as our minds continue to operate in a way that can be easily manipulated.

It is possible that humanity can collectively break free from this propaganda-induced trance by means of a mass-scale psychological transformation out of our unhealthy relationship with mental narrative, and there are some signs that such a transformation may be on its way.

Maybe it is and maybe it isn’t; every species comes to a point where it either makes the adaptations necessary for its survival or it doesn’t. As the powerful use the chains around our minds to march us all toward an existential cliff’s edge of ecocide and nuclear brinkmanship, we’re about to find out which one we are.

In the Name of ‘Public Safety’ Australia Descends Into a Nightmarish Orwellian Police State — Strategic Culture

Posted by M. C. on August 26, 2021

the populace is more concerned about how to save their collective health, sanity and jobs. That’s no easy task when the police give a hard time even to people who are found to be walking their dogs without a face mask on. These days even man’s best friend seems to have it better than the people struggling to survive Down Under.

https://www.strategic-culture.org/news/2021/08/25/in-name-public-safety-australia-descends-into-nightmarish-orwellian-police-state/

Robert Bridge

These days even man’s best friend seems to have it better than the people struggling to survive Down Under, Robert Bridge writes.

The land Down Under appears to be reverting back to its original status as a penal colony as government officials, looking more like prison wardens than any servants of the people, clamp down on demonstrators weary of more Covid lockdowns.

A heavy police presence in the major Australian cities on the weekend didn’t stopped thousands of protesters from taking to the streets in what many saw as a last-ditch effort to protect their severely threatened liberties and freedoms.

The protests came after New South Wales announced its second extended lockdown, which puts Sydney’s 5 million residents under strict curfew conditions until mid-September. The wait will seem all the more excruciating, however, as rumors are flying that the shelter in place orders may be extended all the way until January.

I’m really depressed. I see no end to this nightmarish tyranny.

I just want to leave Australia and never come back.

— Geronimo (@NototyrannyNOW) August 20, 2021

Meanwhile in Melbourne, Australia’s second largest city behind Sydney, citizens face similar restrictions, which mean that – aside from going shopping within a designated radius from their homes, exercising for an hour a day outdoors, and going to work so long as they are engaged in “essential employment” – have essentially become prisoners inside of their own homes.

At this point in Australia’s history, the only thing that remains certain is the uncertainty, which makes the lockdowns all the more unbearable.

Images from Australia’s two major cities on Saturday showed powder keg conditions as demonstrators squared off against police, who responded with batons, pepper spray and mass arrests (It will interesting to see if Big Media describes the police actions against the lockdown protesters in the same compassionate way it described the actions taken against Australia’s very own Black Lives Matter protests around the same time last year. As the Guardian sympathetically reported: “At least 20,000 attended the Sydney [BLM] march which passed off peacefully, except for ugly scenes when police officers used pepper spray on protesters who had flowed into Central station after the rally finished.” It will be advisable not to hold your breath). In live footage obtained by Facebook user ‘Real Rukshan,’ large groups of police are seen confronting individual citizens, seemingly guilty of nothing else aside from just being there.

In one scene (at the 2:10 marker), an elderly man who appears to be leaving a Starbuck’s coffee shop is surrounded by no less than five police officers, who proceed to handcuff the man and, presumably, take him to prison. In another scene (at the 0:30 mark), two men are seen standing in front of the Bank of Melbourne confronted by six officers. In front of them on the street are four mounted officers astride anxious horses. The feeling conjured up in these incidences is the same: authoritarian police-state overkill.

Given the massive police presence amid the steady deterioration of basic human rights a person might get the impression that Australia is really dealing with an existential crisis. While that may be true with regards to obesity, drug abuse and homelessness, it seems to be a real exaggeration when it comes to Covid-19. After all, while evidence of the above mentioned scourges is visible everywhere in the country, the only place the coronavirus seems to exist in Australia is on the nightly news channels (which, by the way, have done a very poor job of keeping their audiences up to date on latest developments. Sources in New Zealand, for example, have informed that the media there has largely ignored the story of anti-lockdown protests happening just across the Tasman Sea).

For example, New South Wales Premier Gladys Berejiklian, in an effort to portray the pandemic as enemy number one, expressed from the boob tube her “deepest, deepest sympathies” to the families of three people who died overnight from/with the coronavirus. Who were these fatalities? The public was not informed of their identities, but Berejiklian described them as “a man in his 80s, and a man in his 90s, and a female in her 90s.”

It’s just a hunch, but could the comorbidity in each of those “tragic” cases have been that silent killer popularly known as ripe old age? Yes, every life is precious and worth saving, but is Australian officialdom secretly shooting for absolute immortality among the population and not just prevention? That would certainly be the height of irony if true considering that the effort is killing just about everyone. In fact, it seems that the real pandemic attacking the Australian people is government-sponsored fear.

Meanwhile, Victoria Premier Daniel Andrews added insult to injury when he commanded from his bully pulpit that citizens, now deprived of their favorite drinking holes to while away the jobless hours, were forbidden from removing their masks to drink alcohol in the great outdoors. As to whether the consumption of a non-alcoholic beverage outdoors would also fall within the tight confines of the mask regime, dear leader did not say. However, the answer seems pretty clear since the state is actually using police helicopters to shoo away sunbathers from the nation’s many famous beaches.

People are letting off flares now on Lonsdale Street in the CBD for the anti-lockdown protest, choppers are overhead. @theage pic.twitter.com/xbkNbeuPIS

— Cassie Morgan (@cassieemorgan) August 21, 2021

All of this insanity has befallen the people Down Under after the continent has witnessed the barest uptick of Covid cases. In the state of New South Wales, for example, where Sydney is located, there were just 825 acquired infections reported on Saturday, an increase from the 644 the day prior. In the state of Victoria, home to Melbourne, the situation appears even less worrying, with just 61 cases reported as of Saturday. These low infection rates, taken together with a high level of public skepticism with regards to the safety of the Covid vaccines, translates into just 29 percent of the population opting to be jabbed to date.

.@ScottMorrisonMP has presided over the biggest Big State government that Australia has ever seen.

And don’t try to tell me #covid19 is an extraordinary circumstance.

We’ve had two World Wars, Spanish Flu and the Great Depression and NEVER has the government behaved this badly.

— Alexandra Marshall (@ellymelly) August 22, 2021

So as the petty tyrants Down Under seem more concerned with getting every single Australian citizen the Big Pharma jab – together with the lifetime of booster shots and lockdowns that will certainly follow – the populace is more concerned about how to save their collective health, sanity and jobs. That’s no easy task when the police give a hard time even to people who are found to be walking their dogs without a face mask on. These days even man’s best friend seems to have it better than the people struggling to survive Down Under.

Watch “‘New Normal’? Davos Billionaire Crowd Pushes Orwellian ‘Smart Mask'” on YouTube

Posted by M. C. on April 8, 2021

Just as many US states are seeing Covid numbers plummet, Klaus “trans-humanist” Schwab’s World Economic Forum is pushing a new “smart mask” that not only tells you when to take a breath of fresh air: it also warns you to put it on if you’ve forgotten it. All tracked through your mobile phone. It is one more step toward China’s Orwellian “social credit” system (in fact, the mask itself was developed by a Chinese firm!). And the billionaire elites want to shove it down our throats.

Doug Casey on the Dangers of the Growing “Snitch Culture” in the US

Posted by M. C. on March 11, 2021

Without doubt, the US is transforming from a nation of whipped dogs into something much worse, a nation of squealing rats. It’s because fear is being used by the powers that be to “unite” the country, much the way the inmates of a prison are united.

A major cultural change is occurring rapidly in the US. The greatest underlying impetus is the school system, which has turned into a politically correct indoctrination system. Almost all of the professors in colleges are at least leftists, liberals or progressives, and many of them are Marxists. They’ve been indoctrinating kids for decades. They’ve been very successful.

https://internationalman.com/articles/doug-casey-on-the-dangers-of-the-growing-snitch-culture-in-the-us/

by Doug Casey

International Man: Since the start of the Covid hysteria, Americans have snitched on people for not wearing a mask, called the police when their neighbors had guests over at their house, and reported businesses that were not compliant.

Has the US become a nation of snitches?

Doug Casey: Without doubt, the US is transforming from a nation of whipped dogs into something much worse, a nation of squealing rats. It’s because fear is being used by the powers that be to “unite” the country, much the way the inmates of a prison are united.

We’ve always had snitches, of course, starting with the silly little girls in Salem that turned in “witches” for keeping to themselves or gathering medicinal plants. More recently, the government has cultivated a class of snitches looking to profit from others they think aren’t paying their “fair share” of taxes. More recently, we’ve encouraged snitches to seek out suspected terrorists—which constituted a near-zero threat. And now, we have plague snitches.

COVID is basically a ghost, mainly affecting old people with serious comorbidities. It doesn’t affect kids or young people at all. Anyway, if somebody is affected by it, they should simply quarantine themselves, the way sensible people do when they have a bad cold or the seasonal flu. But forget about common sense. A relatively minor medical phenomenon—on the order of the previous Asian, Hong Kong, bird and swine flus and not even remotely comparable to the Spanish flu—should have and could have been left to the physicians of the affected, not the politicos. The capite censi seem more easily swayed than ever.

It’s brought about some of the most serious societal changes in US history. It’s a major cultural shift.

International Man: After the 9/11 attacks, the government and mainstream media urged Americans that if they “see something, say something.”

Was this the beginning of a cultural shift? Where did things start to go downhill?

Doug Casey: Its roots—namely encouraging busybodyism on a national level—go back at least to Woodrow Wilson or Teddy Roosevelt. The trend is increasingly Orwellian. Ratting out your neighbor is the type of thing Big Brother would require you to do—report them to the state for any real or imagined offense. It’s been correctly said that 1984 was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual

One time, I was in a line that was snaking back and forth at immigration. My carry-on weighed about 25 pounds, so I put it down and left it each time, about 15 feet before the turn, so I could pick it up as the line snaked back.

Not once, but twice, somebody looked around like a righteous busybody citizen and said, “Unattended baggage! Unattended baggage!” I did nothing either time just to see what would happen.

Most people are really just a standard deviation removed from chimpanzees, pack animals that feel safer when an authority is there to tell them what to do. This monkey see, monkey do behavior is encouraged by the government. Anyway, as I eventually passed my bag and picked it up to carry to the next 180-degree turn, I sarcastically said, “See something, say something.” But they didn’t think I was being sarcastic. They thought I approved of what they were doing.

The situation has gotten worse over the years. It’s accelerating like an avalanche rolling downhill and getting bigger and faster.

In the US prison system, next to child molesters, the prisoner most despised by other inmates is the rat, somebody who snitches on his mates. Americans are encouraged to act like snitches and rats. The US is looking more like Guantanamo. Nobody can trust anyone else. The masks everybody self-righteously wears have become the equivalent of Nazi armbands, or the red scarfs of the old Soviet Union’s Young Pioneers.

They want people to unite against the enemy, namely people that protest against or don’t wear masks. The non-PC have become the enemy in large parts of the US. People in the rural heartland states don’t generally wear masks or take COVID nearly as seriously as the liberal elites on the coast do. As a consequence, the virus is accentuating the cultural divide between the red people and the blue people.

International Man: During the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia, children often snitched on their parents to the State. Similar events happened in East Germany, Mao’s China, and other totalitarian societies.

How does the cultural change toward snitching in the US compare to historical events? Where is it all headed?

Doug Casey: A major cultural change is occurring rapidly in the US. The greatest underlying impetus is the school system, which has turned into a politically correct indoctrination system. Almost all of the professors in colleges are at least leftists, liberals or progressives, and many of them are Marxists. They’ve been indoctrinating kids for decades. They’ve been very successful.

It’s filtered down to the high schools and the grade schools and is reinforced by the media, the entertainment industry, many sports figures, almost all political figures, and now the corporate world. You’re a black sheep if you believe in traditional American values.

With the Greater Depression deepening—notwithstanding the bubbles in the financial markets—the situation can only get worse. When the going gets really tough, the average American is programmed to beg the government to “do something”—as if they haven’t already pulled out all the stops. They’ll do more, however. We’ve developed our own class of Jacobins—the people that were behind the horrors of the French Revolution in 1789. Our own class of Leninists, like those who took over Russia in 1917, and our own class of Red Guards, Maoists that led the Great Cultural Revolution in 1960s China, want to control everything and have totally infiltrated all aspects of American life.

The average American may not like them, but he’s completely incapable of countering their arguments. Soon, he’ll be afraid to speak out as well.

If you believe in thinking for yourself, or if you believe in free minds and free markets, you’re in the minority. You better be careful.

H.L. Mencken, undoubtedly one of the greatest public intellectuals in American history and the best journalist in our history, is a cautionary example. During World War I and throughout the Roosevelt years, he basically stopped writing or saying anything controversial because he might’ve been singled out and persecuted.

I feel it happening now, personally, all around me. I’m starting to ask myself whether it makes sense to say anything—for the same reason it makes no sense to wave a red flag in front of an angry bull. You may feel the same way among coworkers, neighbors, and many people you thought were your friends.

Does it make sense to endanger yourself when, as they say, resistance is futile? It’s an interesting and important moral question. It’s sad, even pathetic, that rallying around Donald Trump is seen as a good refuge, but I suppose something is better than nothing.

International Man: There is a saying in Asia that goes something like, “The tallest flower is the first one to get cut.” In other words, it’s dangerous to stick out, especially when a country’s culture changes for the worse.

What can the average person do about the situation to protect themselves?

Doug Casey: Yes, the “tall poppy” syndrome. As the standard of living goes down in the US, driving an ostentatious or expensive car, for instance, might “trigger” a large part of the population to think you’re a “10%er” or even a “1%er.” Having the money you bought it with is too white in a world full of deprived BLMers. You might find your car keyed out of envy.

In parts of the third world—Africa and the Middle East, particularly—if somebody is rich and wants to live well, the outside of his house is generally very unprepossessing, unpainted, with a wall around it. It looks unappealing or ordinary, even though on the inside, it’s luxurious. That’s the way Americans are going to have to be. Forget about conspicuous consumption. Don’t be ostentatious because it’s going to draw the wrong kind of attention.

During the depression of 1929—1946, you could find Duesenbergs, Cords, V-12 Lincolns and the like in barns all over the US. One reason was that many of their rich owners lost their money and couldn’t afford to drive them—and there was no market for them. The other reason was that they didn’t want to advertise the fact that they were fat cats. As time went by, the owner might have died, or a dozen other things. Decades later, hundreds of these cars have been found in barns across the country, with flat tires and roosting birds. That same thing can happen again.

But the question was, “What can you do about it?” It’s basically impossible to reverse the flow of history. Apart from that, political solutions usually wind up being counterproductive, for reasons I’ve discussed elsewhere.

The answer is to make sure—as much as possible—that you’re not adversely affected. From an investment point of view, look into gold and gold stocks. And diversify politically.

Editor’s Note: It’s clear there are some ominous social, political, cultural, and economic trends playing out right now. Many of which seem to point to an unfortunate decline of the West.

That’s precisely why legendary speculator Doug Casey and his team just released this free report, which shows you exactly what’s happening and what you can do about it. Click here to download it now.

Secret Court Rules It Lacks Jurisdiction to Reveal Its Own Secret Opinions | FISA REFORM | PPSA – Project for Privacy and Surveillance Accountability (PPSA)

Posted by M. C. on September 27, 2020

https://www.protectprivacynow.org/news–updates/secret-court-rules-it-lacks-jurisdiction-to-reveal-its-own-secret-opinions

PPSA

In April, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review (FISCR) published an opinion that set the civil liberties community on edge. It addressed whether it had jurisdiction to resolve several First Amendment claims seeking access to opinions of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC).

FISCR acknowledged that civil liberties groups that brought suit had satisfied two of the three jurisdictional requirements. First, a lack of access to these opinions was unquestionably an injury that could be redressed by a court, making the case actionable and live. Second, the FISC withheld those opinions based on federal law. But FISCR found that the third needed category—that the issue must be authorized by a “jurisdictional statute”—was not satisfied.

Last week, FISC acted on this standard, rejecting requests for opinions regarding bulk data collection. In three cases brought by civil liberties organizations seeking access to unreleased opinions, FISC dismissed each motion for a lack of jurisdiction, notwithstanding the strength of the First Amendment claims of access.

“Orwellian” is a word that gets a lot of use these days, but when a court needs special permission to decide questions about its own internal procedures, that adjective certainly comes to mind. What’s next, a requirement for a specific grant of permission to decide what to order for lunch?

While some other court perhaps could rule on the issue, or not, the public should not have to scurry from court to court begging for basic information on what its government is up to. What can be done? Congress should step in to correct the situation and provide the express authority regarding FISC has held it lacks.

Congress can provide the American people with the means to hold the courts accountable by slightly but explicitly expanding FISC’s—and FISCR’s—jurisdiction to allow it to hear First Amendment right-of-access claims.

Of course, granting FISC jurisdiction to consider these questions would not resolve their merits. But FISC, like every federal court, would be free to determine—in each case—if maintaining the secrecy of its opinions would be the necessary, least-restrictive way of furthering the government’s national security interests.

Unless Congress amends the jurisdictional statutes, FISC and FISCR will be free to continue to dismiss even the most meritorious claims.

So Congress should fix this defect—after, all a right without remedy is no right at all.

The Orwellian indoctrination of kindergarteners with Critical Race Theory is outrageous and must be stopped — RT Op-ed

Posted by M. C. on September 22, 2020

CRT is a philosophy of hyper-racialization that looks to radically transform our “inherently racist” society, including children. Under CRT, Martin Luther King’s dream is abolished, as racial identification is mandatory, and white children are taught self-loathing and black children to embrace victimhood. Like a religion, it is unfalsifiable, elevates subjective experience above objective reality, and crumbles under intellectual scrutiny.

Woke teachers and school administrators are waging a culture war for the minds of kids as young as five, by inculcating them with toxic social justice teachings.

This summer, I got an unpleasant initiation into the culture war when, in the wake of the George Floyd killing, my five-year-old child’s elementary-middle public charter school here in Los Angeles went from being an academic institution interested in preparing students for the workplace and college to an ideological hotbed devoted to promoting Critical Race Theory (CRT) over all other subjects.

A shameless example of CRT indoctrination in action is that the very first lesson taught to my child’s kindergarten class this autumn was “how to be an activist.”

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines activist as “a person who uses or supports strong actions (such as public protests) in support of or opposition to one side of a controversial issue.” My child’s school decided to perniciously redefine “activist” as “someone who notices that a system is unfair to another person, group of people, or animals, and then creates a new system that ensures fairness for every person, group of people, or animal.”

Redefining “activist” is as Orwellian as it gets. Words have meaning and meaning matters. Calling an ass an eagle doesn’t make it sprout wings and fly. But the mendacity doesn’t stop there. The school also teaches the four traits of an “activist,” which they claim to be “Observe. Ask questions. Have empathy. Show compassion.” But these positive traits are more defining of a good neighbor or a good friend, rather than an “activist.”

Contorting the meaning of “activist” to suit an ideological need, and claiming that all “activists” have “empathy” and “show compassion” is the kindergarten equivalent of teaching “war is peace,”“freedom is slavery,” and “ignorance is strength.”

Do the “activists” of the Westboro Baptist Church, Antifa, or KKK “have empathy” and “show compassion”? And what about Adolf Hitler, Vladimir Lenin, Mao Zedong, and Osama Bin Laden? None of these were profiles in empathy and compassion either, but they, too, started out as what one might call “activists.”

George Orwell wrote, “If thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought.” It seems obvious that CRT has corrupted the language used by my child’s school, and that this corrupted language is intended, in turn, to corrupt the thoughts and minds of young students.

This intentionally deceptive “activist” lesson runs throughout the school year and is accompanied by the “activist song,” that’s sung everyday to the tune of ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat’. The lyrics are… “I am an activist, I look and I observe, I ask questions and find out, what has been unheard  / Having empathy, helps me understand, I can make a change, working hand in hand.”

This isn’t education – this is blatant indoctrination. The school isn’t teaching children how to think, but rather what to think.

The school claims its mission is to develop “critical thinking” but does misinforming children about the definition of “activist” spur critical thinking? I’ve asked the leadership of the school this question, as well as for their specific definition of “equity” and “anti-racism” – terms they frequently espouse. Does “equity” mean “equality of opportunity” or “equality of outcome”? Does “anti-racism” mean “opposing discrimination in all its forms” or “discriminating to benefit minorities”? These questions have been entirely ignored.

I also asked if my child would face discrimination at the school, and the principal and CEO steadfastly refuse to answer that question too, which, unfortunately, seems like an answer unto itself, and one that may carry legal liability.

That this taxpayer-funded charter school – which, according to reports, just received between $2 million and $5 million in pandemic-related Paycheck Protection Program loans from the federal government – refuses to say it won’t discriminate against a five-year-old, is quite an indictment. It reveals the ethical rot at the center of CRT, and the catastrophic error the American education system is making by embracing it.

At best, CRT is an intellectually flaccid and insidiously vacuous ideology that focuses on “unlearning” alleged “implicit bias” at the expense of learning the basics of reading, writing, and arithmetic. At worst, it is a malevolent, mendacious, and cancerous cult that demands discrimination against some children under the guise of “equity.”

Parents should be in charge of their children’s moral and ethical education, and if parents want CRT taught to their kids, let them teach it at home. Just as I wouldn’t impose my Catholic faith on other people’s children, I don’t want their CRT cult imposed on mine.

Many parents privately tell me they’re horrified that CRT is being taught in kindergarten, but are reluctant to speak out for fear of being labeled ‘racist’. This is part of the ‘social justice’ game, in which people are shamed into silence and compliance by scurrilous labels. But parents must screw their courage to the sticking place and fight back now, because the war for children’s minds is being waged, and teachers’ unions, school boards, and woke faculty members and administrators are moving fast and pushing hard to make CRT the default foundation for all education in America.

Indoctrinating children with CRT is akin to systemic child abuse, as it steals innocence, twists minds, and crushes spirits. Parents must move heaven and earth to protect their children, and they can start by coming together and rooting out CRT from their schools by any and all legal means necessary.
