Software giant Oracle has accused Google of spying on millions of people and developing profiles containing “intimate lifestyle details” of Google users.

The Herald Sun reports that tech giant Google has been accused by Oracle of spying on millions of users and developing profiles containing “secret interests” and “intimate lifestyle details” of users. Oracle alleges that Google misled users on the information collected and the control that they have over it.

Oracle made these allegations in a document submitted to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission’s (ACCC) digital platform inquiry. Oracle submitted a 17-page document titled “Google’s Shadow Profile” which outlined a surveillance operation conducted by the Silicon Valley giant. Lisa Page: Obama DOJ Ordered FBI Not to Prosecute Hillary Clinton

Posted by M. C. on March 13, 2019

As we suspected, Bubba and Loretta talked about more than grand kids on that airplane. I thought at the time with all the practice Bubba has had he would have been more careful.

by Charlie Spierling

Former FBI legal counsel Lisa Page testified to Congress that the Justice Department ordered the FBI not to charge former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with “gross negligence” by mishandling classified information.

Transcripts of Page’s closed-door testimony in July 2018 were released Tuesday by Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) on Tuesday, which included the following exchange with Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-TX):

RATCLIFFE: So let me if I can, I know I’m testing your memory. But when you say advice you got from the Department, you’re making it sound like it was the Department that told you: You’re not going to charge gross negligence because we’re the prosecutors and we’re telling you we’re not going to …

PAGE: That is correct.

RATFLIFFE: …bring a case based on that.

…

Page confirmed that the Department of Justice led by Attorney General Loretta Lynch had “multiple conversations” about charging Clinton with gross negligence but noted that it would be a rare decision.

“[T]hey did not feel they could sustain a charge,” she said, referring to the Department of Justice.

President Donald Trump reacted to the reports on Wednesday.

“The just revealed FBI Agent Lisa Page transcripts make the Obama Justice Department look exactly like it was, a broken and corrupt machine,” he wrote. “Hopefully, justice will finally be served. Much more to come!”

WHAT A BREXS*ITSHOW Theresa May’s Brexit deal crushed by MPs AGAIN meaning we’re no nearer to quitting EU after 993 days

Posted by M. C. on March 13, 2019

Chaos has been the natural state of the UK for a long while.

The last thing May wants is Brexit. What May is selling is a Brexit plan that effectively keeps the UK in the hands of Brussels with the help of EU loving Angela Merkel.

Fake Brexit. This is such a mess, I think the UK will end up worse than when they started.

Why would any population clamor to be ruled by a far off bunch of banksters, thieves and bureaucrats?

Keep the banksters, thieves and bureaucrats domestic like we do in the US.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/brexit/8615679/brexit-deal-vote-latest-theresa-may-fails-majority/

BRITAIN was last night plunged into chaos once again as MPs voted to kill off Theresa May’s Brexit deal by 391 votes to 242.

Now 993 days after the referendum, and with just 17 days before Brexit, Brits are still in the dark about when or if we will ever leave the EU.

Furious MPs blasted the uncertainty – saying the “wretched soap opera of Brexit continues” as the country heads “back to square one”.

And Cabinet ministers were summoned for a crisis meeting at No10 to work out how to move forward.

Parliament has repeatedly voted against Mrs May’s strategy for leaving the EU on March 29 – last night the Commons laughed and cheered after the the fresh chaos was confirmed.

But without a clear alternative on the table, the latest defeat opens the door to a range of wildly different outcomes – from a cliff-edge No Deal to a second referendum which could cancel Brexit entirely.

Tonight MPs will vote on whether Britain should quit the EU without a deal in 17 days’ time.

But they are expected to oppose the idea – and will instead back a delay to Brexit in a further vote likely to take place on Thursday…

Greenpeace Co-Founder: ‘Climate Crisis Is Not Only Fake News. It’s Fake Science’ | The Daily Caller

Posted by M. C. on March 13, 2019

https://dailycaller.com/2019/03/12/greenpeace-patrick-moore-climate-crisis-fake-news-fake-science/

David Krayden | Ottawa Bureau Chief

Co-founder of environmental organization Greenpeace Patrick Moore said Tuesday that the climate change crisis driving much of liberal politics today “is not only fake news. It’s fake science.”

Moore also wondered during his appearance on “Fox & Friends” why people would be worried about global warming: “A little bit of warming would not be a bad thing, for myself being Canadian.”

Moore bounced back into the climate change debate last week in an online feud with New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez after he blasted her Green New Deal for being not ambitious but ridiculous. (RELATED: Report: Rep. Ocasio-Cortez Has Violated Her Own Green New Deal)

“Well, it’s a silly plan; that’s why I suggested she was a pompous little twit, twit meaning silly in the British lexicon,” Moore told Fox, adding, “She really rubbed me the wrong way when she said she’s ‘the boss’ because she can make up a proposal that’s completely ridiculous, and nobody else did.” Read the rest of this entry »

Pelosi Tacitly Admits That Russiagate Is Bullshit – Caitlin Johnstone

Posted by M. C. on March 13, 2019

“Mueller will continue finding evidence of corruption throughout his investigation, since corruption is to DC insiders as water is to fish,

https://caitlinjohnstone.com/2019/03/12/pelosi-tacitly-admits-that-russiagate-is-bullshit/

In an interview with the Washington Post yesterday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she opposed the impeachment of President Trump. This comes shortly before Mueller’s investigation into Trump-Russia collusion is expected to wrap up.

“I’m not for impeachment,” Pelosi told the Post. “This is news. I’m going to give you some news right now because I haven’t said this to any press person before. But since you asked, and I’ve been thinking about this: Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path, because it divides the country. And he’s just not worth it.”

The response to Pelosi’s remarks has been swift and strong.

“Wrong!” exclaimed MSNBC’s Russiagate con man Malcolm Nance via Twitter. “What the hell is wrong with the @SpeakerPelosi Congress that they absolve themselves of their duty! Nothing is criminal anymore?! Trump can do and say like a dictator as he pleases? All of his crimes are OK even if you see them? This requires a public outcry. #Disgraceful”

“I like Speaker Pelosi but this is NOT the right approach,” tweeted Michael Avenatti of Stormy Daniels fame. “If Trump has committed impeachable offenses, he must be charged and he must face a trial in the Senate. Would the Repubs take this approach? Hell no! And this is why we get outplayed.”

“Sorry, Madam Speaker,” tweeted Esquire‘s Charles P Pierce. “If you really believe the president* is an unprecedented threat to the Constitution, your oath demands that you begin the process to remove him. It’s your job.”…

Is Income Inequality Fair? – LewRockwell

Posted by M. C. on March 13, 2019

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2019/03/walter-e-williams/is-income-inequality-fair/

By

Some Americans have much higher income and wealth than others. Former President Barack Obama explained, “I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money.” An adviser to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez who has a Twitter account called “Every Billionaire Is A Policy Failure” tweeted, “My goal for this year is to get a moderator to ask ‘Is it morally appropriate for anyone to be a billionaire?’” Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth Warren, in calling for a wealth tax, complained, “The rich and powerful are taking so much for themselves and leaving so little for everyone else.”

These people would have an argument if there were piles of money on the ground called income, with billionaires and millionaires surreptitiously getting to those piles first and taking their unfair shares. In that case, corrective public policy would require a redistribution of the income, wherein the ill-gotten gains of the few would be taken and returned to their rightful owners. The same could be said if there were a dealer of dollars who — because of his being a racist, sexist, multinationalist and maybe a Republican — didn’t deal the dollars fairly. If he dealt millions to some and mere crumbs to others, decent public policy would demand a re-dealing of the dollars, or what some call income redistribution.

You say, “Williams, that’s lunacy.” You’re right. Read the rest of this entry »

Keep It Up, Ilhan Omar

Posted by M. C. on March 13, 2019

When will the world dare to distinguish between legitimate criticism of an illegitimate Israeli reality and anti-Semitism?

https://outline.com/vhPJhk

haaretz.com

Maybe Mogadishu will turn out to be the source of hope. This war-torn city was the birthplace of the most promising U.S. congresswoman today.

Ilhan Omar is not only one of the first two female Muslim members of the House of Representatives, she may herald a dramatic change in that body. “Hamas has entered the House,” Roseanne Barr was quick to cry out; “A black day for Israel,” tweeted Donald Trump. Neither Hamas nor a black day, but a glimmer of hope on Capitol Hill.

Maybe, for the first time in history, someone will dare tell the truth to the American people, absorbing scathing accusations of anti-Semitism, without bowing her head. The chances of this happening aren’t great; the savage engine of the Jewish lobby and of Israel’s “friends” is already doing everything it can to trample her. Read the rest of this entry »

EconomicPolicyJournal.com: A Sophisticated Defense of Free Market Capitalism (From a Former Governor)

Posted by M. C. on March 13, 2019

The blind pig (WSJ) finds an acorn.

https://www.economicpolicyjournal.com/2019/03/a-sophisticated-defense-of-free-market.html

Wow, who has the ear of former Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal?

In a Wall Street Journal op-ed piece, he has written a pretty sophisticated defense of free market capitalism.

A key snippet:

Liberal politicians, abetted by the mainstream media, regularly document the alleged shortcomings of free-market capitalism. Politicians like Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez point to rising inequality and a supposed lack of upward mobility to make the case for socialism. Today, American Democrats have a more positive view of socialism than capitalism, and less than half of young adults have a positive view of capitalism. But the debate isn’t merely between left-wing socialists and right-wing capitalists. Even President Trump argues that capitalism generates prosperity abroad at the expense of American workers. Years of wage stagnation and diminished economic prospects have soured many Americans on the system that made the U.S. the world’s largest economy…

The problem isn’t market dynamics, but the increased government intervention in the economy that discourages competition. Rather than relying on innovation, many companies often now seek to exploit licensing arbitrage opportunities and engage in other rent-seeking behaviors. They try to beat competitors through regulatory capture and crony capitalism rather than making better products for less.

Almost every large company has calculated the benefits of lobbying government. It is no coincidence that the seemingly recession-proof Washington area dominates the list of the nation’s wealthiest counties. For consumers, this means fewer meaningful choices. For new producers, the goal is often not to displace an incumbent firm but to be purchased by one. Even many tech entrepreneurs hope to sell to Google or Facebook rather than become the next big thing…

Some argue that targeted government economic intervention is necessary to fix capitalism’s errors and prevent more-radical political elements from gaining power. Some historians credit President Franklin D. Roosevelt with saving free markets from rising support for socialism fed by the Great Depression. They argue the New Deal, by dramatically expanding the role of government, vaccinated capitalism against a more virulent form of socialism propounded by Huey Long and others. More-moderate modern leaders than Mr. Sanders and Ms. Ocasio-Cortez see today’s economic challenges as profound and argue they warrant similar inoculating shots of regulation.

These recommendations come from all across the political spectrum. Sen. Marco Rubio proposes paid parental leave, while Manhattan Institute scholar Oren Cass argues that some short-term growth should be sacrificed to strengthen families and prepare communities for long-term growth. President George W. Bush labeled his version of this approach “compassionate conservatism.”

Democrats, meanwhile, argue for a higher minimum wage, a more progressive income-tax code, stronger unions, and ObamaCare’s Medicaid expansion and exchange subsidies as the best alternative to a single-payer system. Others have pushed for breaking up larger companies—especially tech giants—expanding the earned-income tax credit, raising tariffs, and adopting a universal basic income as possible responses to the displacement caused by globalization and automation.

Small-government conservatives and their libertarian brethren still reject these notions. The biggest threat to American capitalism, they say, comes from liberalism and its incremental—but constant and accumulating—push for a larger, costlier and more powerful government. They see reform proposals from moderate Republicans as attempts to be partway pregnant. They wonder why the GOP would want to become a weaker, cheaper version of the Democratic Party. Free-market Republicans argue that conservatives should be consistently pulling in the direction of lower taxes, less regulation and smaller government.

Facebook Temporarily Bans Elizabeth Warren Ads Calling for Big Tech Breakup. Facebook Says ‘Mistake’ Caused Total Blacklist of Links from Zero Hedge.

https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2019/03/12/facebook-temporarily-bans-elizabeth-warren-ads-calling-for-big-tech-breakup/

by Lucas Nolan

Facebook was recently forced to restore Senator Elizabeth Warren’s campaigns ads which called for the breakup of Big Tech.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) recently had three campaign advertisements removed from Facebook, The Hill reports. These ads called for the breakup of Big Tech companies such as Facebook; now just a day after the removal of the ads, Facebook has been forced to restore them to their platform.

A Facebook spokesperson commented on the removal of the ads telling The Hill: “We removed the ads because they violated our policies against use of our corporate logo. In the interest of allowing robust debate, we are restoring the ads.” The spokesperson further added that several other ads placed by Warren which discussed the breakup of companies such as Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were left unaffected…

Facebook temporarily blocked users from posting articles from finance and politics blog Zero Hedge this week, calling the blacklisting a “mistake.”

Zero Hedge, which often publishes critical articles about Big Tech companies including Facebook, reported on Monday that the social network had been blocking users from posting its articles.

“Over the weekend, we were surprised to learn that some readers were prevented by Facebook when attempting to share Zero Hedge articles,” the blog reported. “Subsequently it emerged that virtually every attempt to share or merely mention an article, including in private messages, would be actively blocked by the world’s largest social network, with the explanation that ‘the link you tried to visit goes against our community standards.’”…

Zuckerberg Wants Facebook to Build a Mind-Reading Machine

Posted by M. C. on March 12, 2019

Zittrain made a law-professor joke about the constitutional right to remain silent in light of a technology that allows eavesdropping on thoughts. “Fifth amendment implications are staggering,” he said to laughter. Even this gentle pushback was met with the tried-and-true defense of big tech companies when criticized for trampling users’ privacy—users’ consent. “Presumably,” Zuckerberg said, “this would be something that someone would choose to use as a product.”

To be fair, Facebook doesn’t plan to actually enter our brains. Don’t be too sure.

When you opt out…are you really out?

What use could the government or your local Fife make of this?

https://www.wired.com/story/zuckerberg-wants-facebook-to-build-mind-reading-machine/

For those of us who worry that Facebook may have serious boundary issues when it comes to the personal information of its users, Mark Zuckerberg’s recent comments at Harvard should get the heart racing.

Zuckerberg dropped by the university last month ostensibly as part of a year of conversations with experts about the role of technology in society, “the opportunities, the challenges, the hopes, and the anxieties.” His nearly two-hour interview with Harvard law school professor Jonathan Zittrain in front of Facebook cameras and a classroom of students centered on the company’s unprecedented position as a town square for perhaps 2 billion people. To hear the young CEO tell it, Facebook was taking shots from all sides—either it was indifferent to the ethnic hatred festering on its platforms or it was a heavy-handed censor deciding whether an idea was allowed to be expressed.

Zuckerberg confessed that he hadn’t sought out such an awesome responsibility. No one should, he said. “If I was a different person, what would I want the CEO of the company to be able to do?” he asked himself. “I would not want so many decisions about content to be concentrated with any individual.”

Instead, Facebook will establish its own Supreme Court, he told Zittrain, an outside panel entrusted to settle thorny questions about what appears on the platform. “I will not be able to make a decision that overturns what they say,” he promised, “which I think is good.”

All was going to plan. Zuckerberg had displayed a welcome humility about himself and his company. And then he described what really excited him about the future—and the familiar Silicon Valley hubris had returned. There was this promising new technology, he explained, a brain-computer interface, which Facebook has been researching. Read the rest of this entry »
