“As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

Time to Get Spies Out of Politics
Posted by M. C. on April 25, 2023
The Michael Morell story demonstrates that the intelligence community needs sweeping reform, beginning with getting spies all the way out of domestic political life
https://www.racket.news/p/time-to-get-spies-out-of-politics?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

On September 08, 2002, New York Times writers Michael Gordon and Judith Miller wrote a blockbuster, titled, “U.S. Says Hussein Intensifies Quest for A-Bomb Parts.” It began:
Iraq has stepped up its quest for nuclear weapons and has embarked on a worldwide hunt for materials to make an atomic bomb, Bush administration officials said today.
In the last 14 months, Iraq has sought to buy thousands of specially designed aluminum tubes, which American officials believe were intended as components of centrifuges to enrich uranium.
That same day, Vice President Dick Cheney went on “Meet The Press” and told Tim Russert Iraq had “reconstituted” its nuke program, citing “a story in the New York Times this morning.”
The Cheney-MTP episode set a standard for laundering disinformation through media. The Times got its “A-Bomb Parts” story by citing “Bush administration officials,” and Cheney sold the same story to the world by citing the New York Times. This merry-go-round is a perfect way for politicians and spooks to introduce bogus news into the world without leaving fingerprints.
The new story about former acting CIA director Michael Morell looks like a similar game of disinformation telephone. Again, the House Weaponization of Government Committee led by Jim Jordan recently questioned Morell. His answers suggest he may have been “triggered” by a call from then-Biden campaign official Anthony Blinken to organize a group letter signed by 50 former intel officials, opining the Hunter Biden laptop story looked like a “Russian information operation.”

The Elimination of Reason
Posted by M. C. on April 25, 2023
But why on earth would the controlling elite of any country seek to diminish the power to reason?
Once we reach this level of thought control, it’s possible to offer utterly unacceptable candidates for public office and still have them gain election. All that’s needed is that they parrot the same rhetoric the people have become dependent on as a replacement for reason.
by Jeff Thomas
Recently, I paid for an item with the exact amount requested, including 89 cents in change. The salesgirl stared at the coins and clearly wasn’t sure what to do. Eventually, she reached for a calculator and began to total them up one at a time: 25 + 25 + 25 + 10 + 4. Having been schooled in the age prior to calculators, I’m accustomed to doing arithmetic in my head, but this particular instance evidenced a level of “dumbing down” over the last fifty years that was beyond what I had realised.
Since the dumbing down has been so consistently prevalent over the decades, it’s clear that this is no accident, nor is it an experiment in “alternative education” that hasn’t worked out as was intended. It’s clearly the result of a conscious effort to diminish the average person’s ability to think. As such, it’s had a long gestation period and was expected to require generations, but was nevertheless a conscious goal.
But why on earth would the controlling elite of any country seek to diminish the power to reason? Surely, reason is the basis of all independent thought – the catalyst for new ideas and improvement on existing goods and systems.
The answer, in a word, is control.

The Ministry of New Normal Truth
Posted by M. C. on April 24, 2023

Back in May of 2021, Matt Taibbi interviewed me for his Meet the Censored series. We talked about how critics of the official Covid narrative were being censored by global corporations like Twitter and Facebook. I got into my “GloboCap” shtick a little, but, all in all, it was pretty tame stuff.
How far we have come over these last two years!
Today, Matt Taibbi is being threatened with imprisonment by elements of the US government for reporting on what he and Michael Shellenberger have been calling “The Censorship Industrial Complex.” My social media accounts are dead. I have been visibility-filtered into Internet oblivion by Twitter — yes, Musk’s “free speech Twitter” — and Facebook, ingeniously buried by Google, disappeared by YouTube, and Amazon has banned my latest book in several countries.
Reporting on how US Intelligence agencies and members of the Biden administration apparently conspired to deceive the public and interfere in the 2020 US elections, and how the corporate media collaborated with them and are burying the story now, Matt offers the following sobering observation … “An all-time media blackout is in effect. We’re experiencing real-time Sovietization.”
Even Michael Shellenberger has joined me in openly using the “T-word” …

But that’s not what this newsletter is about … or … OK, it is, or partly, anyway. I’ll be writing a lot more about corporate/state censorship, and The Censorship Industrial Complex, or The Ministry of New Normal Truth, in the days and weeks and months ahead, and probably in the years ahead, but, before I do that, I want to do two other things, (1) tell you about some changes I’ll be making to my Substack operation, and (2) tell you about Substack Notes.

How About Affirmative Action for the NBA?
Posted by M. C. on April 24, 2023

By Walter E. Block
Suppose there were affirmative action for the National Basketball Association. What would it look like?
Before we address that question, we must ask: why would anyone even think of such a policy? It is simple. We want an NBA that “looks like America.” Right now, this league does not at all fit that bill. Blacks are only 13% of the population, yet they constitute something like 80% of the players.
As a first step in this initiative, we would have to fire most of the black athletes now in the league. Then we would be obligated to hire enough whites so that the racial makeup would at least roughly conform to that of the entire nation.
But that would be only the beginning of the process. We would be seeking not only equal proportional representation, but also equity. That is, the goal would be that these newcomers would be treated in much the same manner as those they had replaced. In a word, we want to make them feel welcome, as though they “belong,” that they are not at all second-class citizens.

Why is Facebook censoring Sy Hersh’s NordStream report? – Responsible Statecraft
Posted by M. C. on April 24, 2023
The social media giant says his piece on US responsibility for blowing up the pipeline is false, allows other stories with proven dubious claims.

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, U.S. policy toward the conflict has inter-mingled uneasily with the U.S. government’s growing convergence with the social media platforms that make up today’s digital public square.
Tech companies have selectively relaxed their bans on violent and hate speech to align with Ukraine’s war effort, shuttered the accounts of media outlets critical of the war and U.S. policy to it, and seen a vast army of bots push content supporting Ukraine and its NATO partners. And now, Facebook is actively censoring and discouraging the sharing of Seymour Hersh’s reporting on the alleged U.S. role in the attack on the Nordstream pipelines.
As of Thursday, if you try to share on Facebook the February 8 Substack post in which Hersh first laid out the anonymously sourced charge, you’ll first be met with a prompt informing you about “additional reporting” on the subject in the form of Norwegian fact-checking website Faktisk, and warning you that “pages and websites that repeatedly publish or share false news will see their overall distribution reduced and be restricted in other ways.”
If you decide to “share anyway,” Hersh’s piece is posted but blurred out, and labeled “false information” by the social media platform. (It’s since been unblurred and labeled “partly false information”). The phenomenon was first pointed out by Michael Shellenberger, and has since been replicated by others, including myself.
Besides labeling the post as false, Facebook also sent me a notification roughly 10 hours later informing me about the notice they’d added and that I had shared something that “includes information that independent fact-checkers said was partly false.” Facebook cautions that “people who repeatedly share false information might have their posts moved lower in News Feed,” suggesting that if I go on to share any other reporting that’s been challenged by fact-checkers, I’ll be punished by having my account’s reach throttled.

Yet the fact-check in question from Faktisk — Norwegian for “Actually” — leans heavily on open source intelligence whose reliability has itself been recently challenged. Hersh has previously fended off criticism that his reporting doesn’t match up with public data about ship movements by arguing this information can be manipulated. Indeed, in a piece putting forward its own, alternate theory to Hersh’s, the New York Times itself noted that the pipelines weren’t closely monitored by commercial or government sensors, and that there were roughly 45 “ghost ships” whose location transponders weren’t on.

The Tower for Twitter? UK Minister Calls for Jailing Social Media Bosses Who Do Not Censor Speech – JONATHAN TURLEY
Posted by M. C. on April 24, 2023
It’s for own good. Government knows best.
The government, of course, will determine what is deemed too harmful for citizens to see or hear.
Another was arrested for calling the Irish boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend a “leprechaun.” Yet another was arrested for singing “Kung Fu Fighting.”
As previously discussed, after Musk decided to buy Twitter, Hillary Clinton called upon European countries to force social media companies to censor Americans. The European Union quickly responded by threatening Musk and other executives. Now, Technology and Science Secretary Michelle Donelan has announced plans to jail social media executives if they fail to censor so-called “harmful” content on their websites. The government, of course, will determine what is deemed too harmful for citizens to see or hear.
Donelan is seeking speech arrests under the UK’s Online Safety Bill, a draconian censorship bill that would effectively ban end-to-end encryption for private internet users.
The bill uses Britain’s broadcasting regulator Ofcom to censor “all forms of expression which spread, incite, promote or justify hatred” based on various progressive characteristics, including transgenderism. So the government can censor anyone who it views as promoting or justifying hatred against virtually any group. Those who do not censor can now be rounded up by Donelan and her minions.
According to a report by The Telegraph, companies will also face fines of up to 10 per cent of their global revenue should they dare to ignore Britain’s demands to preemptively delete or obscure posts violating its coming censorship regime.
