How rock star Roger Waters was hung out to dry by Amnesty and Bellingcat for his views on Syrian ‘chemical attack’ — RT Op-ed

Kit Klarenberg is an investigative journalist.

A leaked phone call reveals that outside pressure caused Amnesty to pull its promotion of a webinar featuring Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters – a vocal skeptic of the Douma ‘chemical attack’ that prompted Western powers to bomb Syria.

In August this year, environmental pressure group Amazon Watch broadcast an online panel discussion in support of Steven Donziger, a crusading attorney who dared try to hold US energy giant Chevron to account for widespread environmental destruction in the Amazon, and was left fighting for his life, livelihood and liberty as a result.

In February 2011, Chevron was found liable by an Ecuadorian court for contamination resulting from crude oil production in the region by its subsidiary Texaco between 1964 and 1992, in a legal action that was many years in the making and led by Donziger.

Chevron is yet to pay a penny of the settlement though, for the landmark ruling was overturned in March 2014 by a US Federal Court on highly dubious grounds – in reaching his decision, presiding Judge Lewis A. Kaplan relied heavily on the evidence of a former Ecuadorian justice who subsequently admitted to fabricating his testimony. Donziger has since been charged with contempt of court and sat under house arrest for over a year awaiting trial.

Donziger himself was present on the Amazon Watch webinar that August evening, and was joined by a number of prominent campaigners, including Simon Taylor, founder of NGO Global Witness, and Roger Waters, co-founder of rock institution Pink Floyd.

The talk was widely promoted in advance by a number of prominent human rights activists, and NGOs, perhaps most prominently Amnesty International.

However, the organization’s endorsement triggered a deluge of criticism on social media from a number of notorious advocates for regime change in Syria. This led to a post advertising the webinar published by Amnesty USA’s official Twitter account the day before broadcast to mysteriously disappear without explanation.

I would appeal to @amnestyusa not to promote this event given Roger Waters participation because slandered #WhiteHelmets repeating Russian propaganda putting their lives at risk when saved over 150,000 lives & cannot remain silent as know them well as a filmmaker @SyriaCivilDefhttps://t.co/8e311Xcj2S— Ronan L Tynan (@RonanLTynan) August 5, 2020

In response to one critic, Amnesty UK Campaigns Manager Kristyan Benedict said promoting the talk was “not good at all” and confirmed that the offending tweet had “been deleted.”

Yep – not good at all – it’s been deleted.— kristyan benedict (@KreaseChan) August 5, 2020

A leaked recording of a September 25 phone call between Waters and two senior staffers at Amnesty International USA – Matt Vogel, head of artist relations, and Tamara Draut, chief impact officer – sheds fascinating light on the episode.

At the start of the conversation, Waters recalls he was not only informed Amnesty would promote the panel discussion on Twitter in advance, but also personally retweeted the endorsement so it reached his circa 375,000 followers at the organization’s express request.

However, an associate informed him just before the webinar began that they couldn’t locate the post. When the talk was over, he went about getting to the bottom of the tweet’s absence.

After conducting “a bit of sleuthing,” he determined that the removal followed pressure being brought to bear by a number of individuals, in particular his “old adversary” Eliot Higgins, founder of controversial website Bellingcat, due to Waters’ views on the Syrian Civil Defense, aka White Helmets. Seeking answers, he attempted to reach out to Amnesty, but was repeatedly stonewalled before finally being put in touch with Vogel and Draut.

In response, Draut confirmed that the tweet’s removal was indeed prompted by a “difference of opinion” on the White Helmets. “We believe they’re really champions for human rights, and have fought for their protection and freedom. When the tweet went up on our end, it wasn’t fully vetted as it should’ve been, and immediately we heard from folks in the White Helmets, asking why we were promoting you, due to comments you’ve made about them. We also heard from other Syrian human rights activists, who were quite hurt by our support of you…” she began, before Waters interrupts, asking what relevance his views on the group has to “the plight of rainforest dwellers in northern Ecuador.”

“People interpreted our promotion of an event at which you were speaking as promoting your position on the White Helmets. I got involved in this process too late, I wouldn’t have taken down the tweet, that’s not the policy I like to follow, I would’ve much rather dealt with this openly and honestly…” Draut explains.

Waters made headlines the world over in April 2018, when he stopped mid-set during a concert in Barcelona to talk about a chemical weapons attack in Douma, Syria, which had allegedly taken place six days earlier.

Branding the White Helmets a “fake organization” creating “propaganda for jihadists and terrorists,” he suggested that Western public opinion was being manipulated in order that “we would be encouraged to encourage our governments to go and start dropping bombs on people.” Mere hours later, his prediction came to pass, as France, the UK and US carried out a series of military strikes against multiple government sites in the country.

In May 2019, Waters was again the subject of intense criticism when he claimed on his official Facebook page that a leaked document had vindicated his position. The file in question was an engineering report produced by an Organization for the Prevention of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) fact-finding team that visited Douma in the days following the contested strike, which concluded there was a “higher probability” that cylinders found at two locations in Douma, alleged by the White Helmets to have been dropped from Syrian Air Force helicopters, were “manually placed… rather than being delivered from aircraft.”

Photos of the cylinders circulated widely in the Western media and on social networks in the wake of the claimed incident. Such images, along with footage of Douma residents being hosed down in hospitals, children seemingly foaming at the mouth, and piles of dead bodies in a housing complex – all produced and disseminated by the White Helmets – were all damning evidence offered in favor of the idea that the Syrian government had targeted civilians with chemical weapons, a notion which in turn provided Paris, London and Washington with a pretext for military intervention.

The OPCW team’s dissenting appraisal was, for reasons unclear, entirely unmentioned in the organization’s final report on Douma, published two months prior to Waters’ Facebook post.

Despite making few if any public comments about the White Helmets or the ongoing crisis in Syria since, Waters has nonetheless been subject to an unending deluge of online abuse from their Western supporters.

Back on the call, an indignant Waters cites a since-deleted tweet from Eliot Higgins, which stated that Amnesty International “needs to explain why Roger Waters is an appropriate person to talk about human rights.” Rather than responding constructively to the question, the organization opted to simply yield to critical pressure.

‘Censorship Rubicon’? Big Tech burying Biden-Ukraine story either wakes up Republicans or drives nail in their political coffin — RT Op-ed

Posted by M. C. on October 15, 2020

When the flow of news and information is controlled on political grounds to the extent it was on Wednesday, it can only lead to irreversible one-party dominance. And here’s a hint for the likes of Representative Jim Jordan (R-Ohio): Google may give you money, but as the late George Carlin said, “It’s a big club, and you ain’t in it.” That one party’s name will start with a “D.”

https://www.rt.com/op-ed/503541-tech-censorship-biden-story/

By Tony Cox,

If Big Tech’s latest censorship fiasco – the suppression of a New York Post scoop that might harm Joe Biden’s presidential campaign – doesn’t spur Republicans to act, they may as well quit pretending to represent their voters.

If even this isn’t enough to trigger so-called conservatives to loosen Silicon Valley’s death grip on America’s public marketplace of ideas, nothing will. All the talk about defending free speech and fighting election interference will be exposed for the meaningless posturing that it is, much like all those years of hearing Republicans campaign on stopping illegal immigration, which they had no intention of doing.

In this case, however, the stakes are more personal for Republican politicians. This isn’t only about throwing their constituents under the bus and giving lip service about political bias while taking donations from the likes of Google and Amazon. This time, the bus is about to run over them and leave tread-marks on their former careers in Washington.

The Post article alleged that Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, received an email in 2015 from an executive at Ukrainian energy firm Burisma, thanking him for arranging a meeting with then-Vice President Joe Biden. The alleged meeting with the executive, Vadym Pozharskyi, occurred about a year after Hunter Biden joined Burisma’s board at a reported salary of up to $50,000 a month.

If the meeting was arranged by the younger Biden and took place as Pozharskyi said, it would belie Joe Biden’s previous statements that he had never spoken to his son about his overseas business dealings.

.@andymstone “In the meantime”… Here is a little FACT CHECKING for your THIRD-PARTY FACT CHECKERS.#Facebookpic.twitter.com/f6td8SVNw4— Gio |🇺🇸 (@Cubannator) October 14, 2020

The Biden campaign said no record of such a meeting appeared on the vice president’s “official schedules,” but as Senator Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) pointed out, it didn’t deny the veracity of the emails on which the article was based.

Biden campaign doesn’t deny veracity of Biden emails as reported by @nypost. But @Facebook@Twitter continue the censorship campaign https://t.co/3A2HqHokKT— Josh Hawley (@HawleyMO) October 14, 2020

Nevertheless, Facebook rushed to curtail the story’s exposure. Company spokesman Andy Stone, who previously worked for two Democrat lawmakers and two Democrat campaign groups, announced that Facebook would reduce distribution of the article as part of a “standard process” to reduce spreading of “misinformation” and might do a fact-check of the story. He didn’t say why the article was considered a misinformation threat.

While I will intentionally not link to the New York Post, I want be clear that this story is eligible to be fact checked by Facebook’s third-party fact checking partners. In the meantime, we are reducing its distribution on our platform.— Andy Stone (@andymstone) October 14, 2020

The next shoe dropped with Twitter, which blocked its users from tweeting links to the story or sending it in direct messages. Those who tried to spread the article got an error message saying the message couldn’t be sent because it was identified as “potentially harmful.”

Wow. twitter going even further than FB and is no longer letting ppl tweet the NYPost story. This is what pops up if you try. https://t.co/YVlOTeF1iXpic.twitter.com/66kzYdwq21— Alex Thompson (@AlxThomp) October 14, 2020

Conservative observers, such as Toby Young, joked that the article was “potentially harmful” only to Biden’s campaign, but the damage was done. As in the case of Facebook, Twitter didn’t make a case for the article being false, but the company said that in addition to concern over potential disinformation, the article was blocked “in line with our hacked materials policy” and a lack of authoritative reporting on where the source material originated.

By which they mean “potentially harmful” to Biden’s electoral prospects, presumably? https://t.co/XppAc0cFfE— Toby Young (@toadmeister) October 14, 2020

In addition to filtering for political disinfo, Twitter says they’re blocking NY Post Hunter Biden story because they block stories with stolen info. Easy enough to test. Let’s see if they allow link to a story in the NY Post on secret audio tape of Trump. https://t.co/JoaR9dTKOP— Omri Ceren (@omriceren) October 14, 2020

From Twitter spox: “In line with our Hacked Materials Policy, as well as our approach to blocking URLs, we are taking action to block any links to or images of the material in question on Twitter.” https://t.co/4bbO621CXj— Shannon Bond (@shannonpareil) October 14, 2020

The emails weren’t hacked; rather, the Post said they were taken off a computer that Hunter Biden left at a repair shop in Delaware. In any case, the various policy explanations were excuses for censoring content that probably would have been gleefully allowed by social media platforms if the article had instead said Donald Trump Jr. was selling access to the White House.

And now Omri shows that Twitter is lying about another excuse they gave for censoring a media outlet that published negative information about its preferred candidate for the presidential election. Twitter is lying. Do not accept their lies. https://t.co/8pB4vUokBW— Mollie (@MZHemingway) October 14, 2020

The Biden family have all made a lot of money when they did not have the skill sets. When real questions start being asked, Silicon Valley appears to close ranks and protect their man. Imagine if this story was about a Trump son? https://t.co/WxDKU4LvId— Nigel Farage (@Nigel_Farage) October 14, 2020

Social-media giants are censoring the article because they favor Biden over Trump, and they figure no one will stop them. Mainstream media outlets are cheering on the decision because they, too, favor Biden and have no principles regarding free speech or good journalism. Before Twitter did the job for him, MSNBC producer Kyle Griffin warned that no one should be linking or sharing the Post article because they could discuss its flaws “without amplifying what appears to be misinformation.”

No one should link to or share that NY Post ‘report’. You can discuss the obvious flaws and unanswerable questions in the report without amplifying what appears to be disinformation.— Kyle Griffin (@kylegriffin1) October 14, 2020

Like Facebook and Twitter, Griffin didn’t need to explain how he knew the article was disinformation. Nor did he show the least bit of self-awareness about the media’s spreading of disinformation over the past four years. Adam Jentleson, a staffer for former Senator Harry Reid, even pretended to know that the article was not only disinformation, but also the work of a “Russian propaganda campaign.” Again, no explanation or facts needed.

If you promote the lame NY Post story, you are probably participating in a known Russian propaganda campaign. https://t.co/am6evTjdOa— Adam Jentleson 🎈 (@AJentleson) October 14, 2020

Twitter also locked out the Post’s account, as well as those of people who shared the story, among them actor James Woods and White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany.

Conservative and independent commentators, such as Federalist co-founder Sean Davis and journalist Glenn Greenwald, saw the obvious importance and implications of Wednesday’s censorship effort. Rarely is social media discussion as dominated by one topic as it was by the reaction to the Biden story.

The NY Post story was a minor, largely redundant report even if the docs are real. The extreme act of censorship by tech giants to suppress it, cheered on by journalists, is a major story of historic proportions. They always had this undemocratic power; today they used it.— Glenn Greenwald (@ggreenwald) October 14, 2020

Twitter is now banning users from even linking to the New York Post story detailing Hunter Biden’s use of his dad’s office to get rich off of corrupt foreign oligarchs. This is brazen, blatant election interference from illegal tech monopolies trying to steal the election. pic.twitter.com/MlZgGLliae— Sean Davis (@seanmdav) October 14, 2020

The danger is that all the talk just fades away and the debacle is chalked up as just another example of anti-conservative censorship and bias. There will likely never be a better poster child to expose Big Tech’s criteria for which news gets covered up and which news gets promoted: If it reflects poorly on Democrats, it’s disinformation, and if it makes Republicans (especially Trump) look bad, it’s golden.

The Trump Administration had 4 years to tackle big tech because they’re clearly working against Republicans and conservatives. Now they’re literally suppressing stories related to the Bidens.— Ryan James Girdusky (@RyanGirdusky) October 14, 2020

As conservative author Mike Cernovich pointed out, “the censorship Rubicon was crossed.” Unless the talk finally becomes action, there’s no point in continuing the conversation.

The censorship Rubicon was crossed. Mark Zuckerberg has declared himself your master and owner. Do you accept this? https://t.co/NtGfAzZMo8— Cernovich (@Cernovich) October 14, 2020

Doug Casey: “This is Going to be One for the Record Books”

Posted by M. C. on October 15, 2020

This is the part no one gets and you will never hear about on the nightly news.

Rather than let the market adjust itself, government typically starts the process all over again with a new and larger “stimulus package.” The more often this happens, the more ingrained become the distortions in the way people consume and invest, and the nastier the eventual depression.

https://internationalman.com/articles/doug-casey-this-is-going-to-be-one-for-the-record-books/

by Doug Casey

Just because society experiences turmoil doesn’t mean your personal life has to. And a depression doesn’t have to be depressing. Most of the real wealth in the world will still exist—it will just change ownership.

What is a depression?

We’re now at the tail end of a very long, but in many ways a very weak and artificial, economic expansion. At the same time we’ve had one of the strongest securities bull markets in history. Both are the result of trillions of new dollars created over the last decade. Right now very few people are willing to consider the possibility of tough times—let alone The Greater Depression.

But, perverse though it may seem, this is the very best time to think about it. The U.S. economy is a house of cards, built on quicksand, with a tsunami on the way. I urge everyone to read up on the topic. For now, I’ll only briefly touch on the nature of depressions. There are at least three good definitions of the term:

  1. A period of time when most people’s standard of living drops significantly.
  2. A period of time when distortions and misallocations of capital are liquidated.
  3. A period of time when the business cycle climaxes.

Using the first definition, any natural disaster can cause a depression. So can living above your means for long enough. But the worst kind of depression has not just economic effects, but economic causes. That’s where definitions 2 and 3 come in.

What can cause distortions in the way the market operates, causing people to do things they’d otherwise consider unreasonable or uneconomic? Only government action, i.e., coercion. This takes the form of regulation, taxes, and currency inflation.

Always under noble pretexts, government is constantly directly and indirectly inducing people to buy and sell things they otherwise wouldn’t, to do things they’d prefer not to, and to invest in things that make no sense.

These misallocations of capital subtly reduce a society’s general standard of living, but the serious trouble happens when such misallocations build up to an unsustainable degree and reality forces them into liquidation. The result is bankrupted companies, defaulted debt, and unemployed workers.

The business cycle is caused mainly by currency inflation, which is accomplished today by the monetization of government debt through the banking system; essentially, when the government runs a deficit, the Federal Reserve buys its debt, and credits the government’s account at a commercial bank with dollars. Using the printing press to create new money is largely passé in today’s electronic world.

Either way, inflation sends false signals to businessmen (especially those who get the money early on, as it filters through the economy), making them overestimate demand for their products. That causes them to hire more workers and make capital investments—often with borrowed money. This is called “stimulating the economy.”

Inflating the currency can actually drive down interest rates for a while, because the price of money (interest) is lowered by the increased supply of money. This causes people to save less and borrow more, just as Americans have been doing for years. A lot of that newly created money goes into the stock market, driving it higher.

It all looks pretty good, until retail prices start rising as a delayed consequence of the increased money supply, and interest rates skyrocket to reflect the depreciation of the currency.

That’s when businesses start failing. Stocks fall. Bond prices collapse. Large numbers of workers lose employment.

Rather than let the market adjust itself, government typically starts the process all over again with a new and larger “stimulus package.” The more often this happens, the more ingrained become the distortions in the way people consume and invest, and the nastier the eventual depression.

This is why I predict the Greater Depression will be … well … greater. This is going to be one for the record books. Much different, much longer lasting, and much worse than the unpleasantness of 1929-1946.

“Build Back Better”: Why Are Both Biden and Boris Now Using This Phrase? | Mises Wire

Posted by M. C. on October 14, 2020

During lockdown, countless commentators waxed lyrical about how “nature was coming back to life” during our miserable house imprisonment. Now, economist Mariana Mazzucato, of University College London, is floating the idea of “climate lockdowns”—that is, forcing people to stay in their homes to limit carbon dioxide emissions. And the UN is pushing a global propaganda campaign to get a good percentage of national bailout budgets siphoned off into “green” gravy train projects with highly questionable environmental and economic returns.

https://mises.org/wire/build-back-better-why-are-both-biden-and-boris-now-using-phrase?utm_source=Mises+Institute+Subscriptions&utm_campaign=705dd97dc7-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_9_21_2018_9_59_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8b52b2e1c0-705dd97dc7-228343965

Mark Tovey

Listen to the Audio Mises Wire version of this article.

The Trump campaign shared a video on social media this week, claiming Joe Biden had ripped off a slogan from British prime minister Boris Johnson.

“We have a great opportunity to build back and to build back better” (emphasis added), Biden said in the video, dated July 9, 2020. Then rolled a video of the British PM, using the same phrase on May 28: “We owe it to future generations to build back better.” Damning evidence—it seemed—that the Democratic nominee had, once again, copied his homework. (Biden was famously caught passing off a Robert F. Kennedy quote as his own during his ill-fated 1988 run for president.)

In fact, the story here is not one of lazy speech writing or plagiarism. The use of the phrase “build back better” by both Biden and the British PM spells something far more sinister. “Build back better” is the rallying cry of a globalist plot to exploit the coronavirus pandemic for the sake of narrow-minded, well-connected lobby groups—particularly of the “environmentalist” stripe.

Boris Johnson did not coin the phrase “build back better”. It first surfaced on April 22 in a UN press release, marking “International Mother Earth Day”—a faux holiday created by the UN in 2009.

As the world begins planning for a post-pandemic recovery, the United Nations is calling on Governments to seize the opportunity to “build back better” by creating more sustainable, resilient and inclusive societies.

“The current crisis is an unprecedented wake-up call,” said Secretary-General António Guterres in his International Mother Earth Day message. “We need to turn the recovery into a real opportunity to do things right for the future.”

But would “Brexit Boris” really swallow a globalist scheme hook, line and sinker? On October 6, the British PM unveiled a plan at the Conservative Party conference to dump £160m into powering every home with wind energy by 2030—all part of a harebrained scheme to “build back greener.”

The Conservative lawmaker Lord Matt Ridley excoriated Boris’s “build back greener” policy in a radio interview the next day: “It takes 150 tonnes of coal to build one wind turbine…if we want a zero-carbon future by 2050, the only way we’re going to get it is nuclear. Wind is messing around and rewarding rich people at the expense of poor people.”

But it is not just Boris Johnson and Joe Biden who are being played like cheap violins by the UN. All around the world, politicians are echoing the same sentiment.

The European Commission used the slogan when announcing their €750 billion stimulus fund on May 27: “Through this fund, officially titled Next Generation EU, the Commission hopes to “build back better,” through channels that contribute to a greener, more sustainable and resilient society.”

In Canada, PM Justin Trudeau signaled his allegiance to the globalist “green” lobby in August, saying: “We need to reset the approach of this government for a recovery to build back better.”

The UN have even taken the liberty of translating the slogan into Spanish (reconstruir mejor), Portuguese (reconstruir melhor), French (reconstruire en mieux), and many other tongues—so that politicians all over the world can sing from the same hymn sheet. The No Agenda podcast, hosted by Adam Curry and John C. Dvorak, is a fantastic resource for keeping track of the growing number of co-occurrences of the “build back better” meme.

Some environmentalists are twisting the covid-19 pandemic into a pretext for extreme “green” policies, of the type that would have been unthinkable less than a year ago.

Talk of “building back better” and “green growth” obfuscates the tradeoff between growing GDP and limiting carbon dioxide emissions. Globally, GDP is forecast to plummet a whopping 4.9 percent in 2020, according to the International Monetary Fund.

Lifting lockdowns, cutting taxes and deregulating would quickly get the world turning again. On the other hand, financing a global racket with billions of dollars of funny money—or “building back better”—will only cause us to sink deeper into this malaise. Author:

The one lesson I hoped the left would learn from Trump

Posted by M. C. on October 14, 2020

Take the Tuskegee syphilis experiments, where the government lied to black men about giving them free medical care, and instead hid the fact that they had syphilis in order to watch the progression as the disease killed them over decades.

Only when people realize that the power of the government will always be abused, and used against them eventually, can we move beyond a strong centralized state.

And that is not to say smaller government’s can’t be oppressive– of course they can. The point in decentralizing power is that at least you have choice, and this choice alone creates a marketplace for better governance.

By Joe Jarvis

Since Donald Trump is apparently rushing a COVID vaccine to production in the hopes of reelection, can I assume that the left now opposes forced government vaccinations?

Since August, the percent of people who say they are likely to get the first generation COVID-19 vaccine as soon as it is available dropped from about 47% to 39% overall.

Republicans are still less likely to want a vaccine compared to Democrats, but everyone is now more skeptical of an untested government pushed vaccine.

Black Americans are about half as likely as White Americans to immediately want the vaccine.

And it makes a lot of sense for Black Americans to be skeptical of government mandated medical care.

Take the Tuskegee syphilis experiments, where the government lied to black men about giving them free medical care, and instead hid the fact that they had syphilis in order to watch the progression as the disease killed them over decades.

This went on until 1972!

And yet older Black Americans, who can actually remember when this happened, still think they can at least trust the Democratic Party.

Data from a poll conducted by the American University Black Swing Voter Project found that younger African Americans generally have less trust in both parties.

For example, 73% of Black voters in swing states over age 60 “Trust congressional Democrats to “do what is best” for Black people.”

Only 43% of Black swing state voters from 18-29 feel the same way.

Also interesting is that 29% of these 18-29 year old swing state Black voters “Trust congressional Republicans to do “what is best” for Black people.”

And only 8% of those over 60 feel the same.

I present this data only to suggest that younger Black Americans are less trusting of either party. Based on this data, overall 81% of Black voters over 60 trust a political party to help them, while only 72% of the youngest Black voters feel the same.

I see that as a good sign.

As long as the factions maintain bases that believe their party is righteous and good, we will continue to grow the power of the state, to the detriment of all.

That was my major hope for Trump all along– that he would make the big government folks realize the folly in growing state and executive power, only to have it hijacked by someone they despise– someone they truly believe is a danger to society itself.

Well, welcome to the club. We wouldn’t be in this mess if people realized everyone with near unlimited power is a danger to a functioning prosperous society– Obama, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and Reagan too. And every one of them grew the power of the US government and the chief executive.

That is the genius of the two party system. I mean Trump has grown the government as much as the next guy, borrowing and spending more than any president in history, and expanding the already massive defense budget.

Both parties do everything they can to erase any semblance of state sovereignty, or states running their own affairs without federal intervention.

But since it is usually the Red states that have the most criticism for federal overreach, the fact that Trump targeted places like California and New York gave me hope that the left would wake up to the problem with a massive centralized government.

California, by itself the sixth largest economy in the world, could break free from the US federal government, and set the modern precedent that states can secede to form their own countries, better fit for the citizens of that area.

I certainly wouldn’t be moving to California the state or the country. But Florida as a country could be a hell of a good time, especially because it has no income tax.

And both of these states are pretty close to net neutral when it comes to federal funding. That means that taxpayers pay about as much to DC as they get back in federal spending. So divorce from DC would not have a huge impact.

Now let me get back to vaccines. This article isn’t really about vaccines themselves, I’m basically using trust in government vaccines as a stand-in for trust in government in general.

I’m not anti-vax– frankly I haven’t done enough research. But I assume some vaccinations have been very beneficial, and other carry more risk than reward. It would be absurd to believe vaccinations are 100% safe with no side effects. And the government should not be deciding the risk versus rewards for us.

But vaccine messaging actually shows us exactly how the government partners with corporations and the intelligentsia to control the narrative.

A Yale Study is already underway to test the best vaccine propaganda.

Sovereign Man had a good summary explaining:

Is guilt, self-interest, or anger the most effective way to convince people to get a Covid vaccine?

A Yale study will attempt to answer that question, by studying which message resonates most with the general population. It’s called Persuasive Messages for COVID-19 Vaccine Uptake.

There is no actual vaccine yet. But the study is already testing to see which method of propaganda will most effectively convince people to get a vaccine… whenever that happens to be.

The study will also measure how confident the propaganda makes people feel about a vaccine, and if it makes participants want to persuade others to take the vaccine.

Finally, researchers want to see if the propaganda produces fear in the unvaccinated, and how much social judgment it will cast on those who choose to remain unvaccinated.

Just in case you start to see a “spontaneous” groundswell of popular support for a brand new untested vaccine…

So forget if it is actually safe or not, the government wants to find out how to convince you it is safe– maybe with fear, or shaming, or trying to make you abandon all reason in favor of alleged “experts.”

And of course, the elite, the cabal, the government, the corporations– the mixture of these institutions which exerts control over society– they do this messaging with everything.

So if it isn’t obvious enough by now, let me spell out my point.

You shouldn’t trust one party or the other. You shouldn’t trust the government at all.

You should be a skeptic when it comes to other people trying to force you to do anything– especially when it means handing off more responsibility, and giving them more power over you life.

We know we cannot trust the current power structure. We know the pendulum of political factions will deliver nothing but more oppression, poverty, crime, and chaos.

There is really only one solution at this point, and that is taking matters into your own hands.

Because when you start ignoring the mass media and political theater, you realize the community around you, the people you interact with in real life on a daily basis are the ones that matter.

And if you aren’t in a good environment, put yourself in one. It’s 2020, you don’t have to be born and die in the same village.

And that is the power that people have today. The power to vote with our feet, to organize into groups of like-minded people, and more power than every before in the history of earth to put ourselves exactly into the community we want to be in, around the people we like most, in a jurisdiction that works best for us for taxes, regulations, laws, and so on.

It’s not perfect, and there needs to be far more choice when it comes to how societies are run. But this is how we get there, through individual action, not through the collective bullshit that the media, corporations, governments, and elite are trying to force on us.

Never let a good crisis go to waste is the mantra of the elites.

In tumultuous times, their tactics have extra potency. They reach for more power.

But this is also when the elite are most vulnerable.

By studying their tactics, you will be more prepared to guard against, and counter-attack the enemy.

The current crisis is being used to exploit the masses. But it also presents tremendous opportunity to take the power back, and reshape this world.

Society is entering a new period of transition, a struggle that will reveal the elites of the next generation.

Now is the time to seize your power if you intend to be among their ranks.

My Corner by Boyd Cathey-Who Are the Real “Crazies”?

Posted by M. C. on October 14, 2020

In contemporary America “gaslighting” has become a praxis, a weapon of choice of the post-Marxist Progressivist Left: That is, repeatedly projecting on to their opponents the belief and sense that somehow they (we), because of our “unenlightened views” are racist, sexist, and “against progress and ‘democratic values’.” Nearly the entirety of the media, the entertainment industry, and many political leaders do this on a regular basis;

Chesterton discusses the concept of liberty, and in so doing defines it succinctly as “the power of a thing to be itself…We are limited by our brains and bodies; and if we break out, we cease to be ourselves, and, perhaps, to be anything. The lunatic is he who loses his way and cannot return….”

by Boyd Cathey

Friends,

A few days ago I sent out to some friends a short piece, unsigned, on “gaslighting.” If you follow media pundits and online scribblers, you’ve probably heard or seen the term used in a political or social context and wondered exactly what it meant.

Gaslighting, in that currently employed sense, can be defined as a form of psychological abuse aimed at controlling a person by altering perceived reality to the point where the person will doubt his own sanity. Essentially it involves mental manipulation  “in which a person or a group covertly sows seeds of doubt in a targeted individual or group, making them question their own memory, perception, or judgment, often evoking in them cognitive dissonance and other changes, including low self-esteem. Using denial, misdirection, contradiction, and information, gaslighting involves attempts to destabilize the victim and delegitimize the victim’s beliefs.”

This usage apparently originates with the play, Gas Light (1938) and two succeeding classic movies from 1940 and 1944 (this latter film famously stars Ingrid Bergman, Charles Boyer, and Joseph Cotten). The main character in the play (and in the films) literally attempts to drive his wife crazy by gradually dimming the gas-powered lights in their home. As she complains that the lights seem to be getting dimmer, her husband not only denies the fact, but convinces her that it is just her imagination…to the point where she begins to question her own sanity.

In contemporary America “gaslighting” has become a praxis, a weapon of choice of the post-Marxist Progressivist Left: That is, repeatedly projecting on to their opponents the belief and sense that somehow they (we), because of our “unenlightened views” are racist, sexist, and “against progress and ‘democratic values’.”  Nearly the entirety of the media, the entertainment industry, and many political leaders do this on a regular basis; it is inculcated into our children in practically all our schools…. And once we begin to believe that meme, we then retreat from real opposition, we may apologize for our perceived sins, and defensively we may compromise and give way, or just be silent.

This praxis has been very successful in essentially neutering many voices of the supposed opposition to the madness that is eating away at our society.

How many elected Republicans have given way to “gaslighting” for fear of being called “racists” or “white supremacists”? But not just their apologies or silence, and their running to hide “in the tall grass”: Some have convinced themselves of the rightness of Progressivist positions, even supporting them publicly. We only need cite the literally dozens of former Bush administration officials, staffers for John McCain (his wife is voting for Biden) and Mitt Romney, and Neoconservatives like Max Boot, Bill Kristol, and others who now openly support Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Does this not indicate something deeply disquieting about these so-called “Establishment Conservatives”? That they are easily spooked by the constant barrage of Progressivist accusations is one thing…but more profoundly, does this not indicate their own lack of deeply-held conservative convictions?

And these were the folks we were to support as our champions in 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012?

Whatever criticisms we might level at Donald Trump, and yes, certainly there are some, he has at least done one thing of immense value: he has torn the mask partially off those “Deep State” apparatchiks, made them surface publicly, revealing them as the condescending elitists, Managerial State globalists that they are. And that, despite all the negative things, in a sense compensates in some ways for many of the Donald’s peccadillos….

It is those who righteously claim the Progressivist mantle who are the real madmen, lacking rationality, outside reality, and strangers to the inherent laws of nature and Divine Positive Laws of God. It is they who, like demons from the bowels of Hell, seek to convince us that we are “outside reality” and “unprogressive.” And in this they engage in a form of transference, that is, projecting zealously onto their victims—onto the “deplorables” and those who dissent from their template—the insecurities and sense that our thinking and actions are somehow distorted, wrong, hurtful, and not normal…that we are crazy.

In fact, it is they who are, to quote the great Christian English essayist G. K. Chesterton, the real “lunatics.” In his volume, The Poet and the Lunatics (1929), Chesterton discusses the concept of liberty, and in so doing defines it succinctly as “the power of a thing to be itself…We are limited by our brains and bodies; and if we break out, we cease to be ourselves, and, perhaps, to be anything. The lunatic is he who loses his way and cannot return….”  Those who have rebelled against the order of Creation and nature, he adds, are “already outside the world of reason, raging with a desire to be outside of everything.” It is they who have in fact rejected reality. Thus, their frenzy and anxiety not so much to convince us, as to convince themselves of their rightness….for like all Children of the Night, down deep, gnawing at them is the dark, if faint but constant sensation that this is so.

Against their constant barrage we need to affirm our rootedness in our God-given and created nature and in two-thousand years of Western tradition and civilization…while rejecting the Progressivists as crazed fanatical rebels against that Creation and its Author.

They must be totally repudiated…no compromises or deals with them. Things may—and probably will—get worse, and our enemies appear to gain triumph.  But in the end the Faith will conquer…if we let it. at

Racial Deception – LewRockwell

Posted by M. C. on October 14, 2020

Some years ago, I declared myself a springbok trapped in a human body.

Psychological counseling was recommended, which, in my opinion, is nothing less than animal phobia. One might ask, “Williams, why in the world would you want to call yourself a springbok?” The reason is quite simple. There is nothing in the Internal Revenue Code that says springboks have a federal tax obligation.

https://www.lewrockwell.com/2020/10/walter-e-williams/racial-deception/

By Walter E. Williams

During slavery, many black women, often in a forcible union with a white man, bore mixed-race children. Based on their percentage of white blood, they were deemed “mulattos,” “quadroons,” “octoroons” or even “hexadecaroons.” Depending on skin color, they could pass as white and avoid the gross racial discrimination suffered by their darker skinned brothers and sisters. This was portrayed in a 1949 motion picture titled “Pinky” that highlighted “passing” for white.

Now the tables have been turned with some white women claiming they are black. For years, Rachel Dolezal claimed that she was black. As a result of her deception, she became president of the Spokane, Washington, office of the NAACP and an instructor of Africana studies at Eastern Washington University. Her two white parents outed her.

Just recently, Jessica Krug, George Washington University professor of history, who for years claimed that she was black, confessed that she was white. Her faculty bio listed her as a scholar in African American history, imperialism and colonialism. Krug, in a fit of contrition, apologized for her “continued appropriation of a black Caribbean identity.” She confessed: “I am not a culture vulture. I am a culture leech.” After Krug’s confession, she resigned from the GWU faculty.

An Indianapolis activist for Black Lives Matter, Satchuel Paigelyn Cole, born to two white parents, has admitted to pretending to be black for years. CV Vitolo-Haddad, a graduate student at UW’s School of Journalism and Mass Communications, after faking her race, has resigned from her teaching position and stepped down as co-president of the school’s chapter of the Teaching Assistants’ Association. One cannot be sure about race these days because of “blackfishing,” a trend in which people alter their appearance to present themselves as black.

Dolezal, Krug, Cole and others are not the only white women who have benefited from racial fakery. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, sometimes called “Pocahontas,” claimed that she was of Cherokee Indian ancestry. That helped her land a job at diversity-hungry Harvard University as a professor of law and was paid $400,000 to teach two courses. She described herself as a minority in the Harvard Law School directory and claimed that her great-grandfather was Cherokee. Not only was her great-grandfather not a Cherokee as she claimed but he was a white man who boasted of shooting a Cherokee Indian.

By the way, if as it has now become acceptable to call oneself a woman, when one has the anatomical equipment of a male, then why isn’t it okay to claim that one is black, Latino or Asian when one is really Caucasian? According to the U.S. Bureau of Census, people self-identify their race or ethnicity.

Personally, I do not hold Dolezal, Krug, Cole, Warren or other undiscovered university professors at fault for racial fakery. I am guilty of the same during my troubled time in the Army. In 1960, landing in Incheon harbor in Korea, I tried to fake my race. Arriving soldiers were required to fill out a form containing information such as blood type, religion and next of kin. I checked off “Caucasian” where it asked for race. A chief warrant officer, in charge of inspecting the forms noticed the entry and told me I should have checked off Negro. I told him that if I put down “Negro,” I would get the worst job over there. The warrant officer probably changed the designation.

Some years ago, I declared myself a springbok trapped in a human body. A springbok is a highly agile, cute, deer-like animal that resides in southern and southwestern African. Some people suggested that I suffered from a condition known as species dysphoria, in which one thinks he is a wild animal trapped in a human body. Species dysphoria is similar to gender dysphoria, a condition in which a person believes he is a woman trapped in a male body or a man trapped in a female body.

If IRS officials were to demand that a springbok pay taxes, they could be referred to the U.S. Department of Justice for prosecution and reported to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

2 + 2 = thought crime? Mathematical certainty hangs in the balance as Orwell’s worst fears come to life — RT Op-ed

Posted by M. C. on October 14, 2020

The MAA ventured beyond its comfort zone when it argued that critical race theory is “an established social science inquiry which is grounded in decades of scholarship.” Then, with incredible arrogance and hypocrisy, it criticized the banning of these teachings inside of US federal agencies as “an encroachment on science and the academy.”

Robert Bridge

Robert Bridge

Robert Bridge is an American writer and journalist. He is the author of ‘Midnight in the American Empire,’ How Corporations and Their Political Servants are Destroying the American Dream. @Robert_Bridge

Not even the rules-based world of mathematics is safe from the PC inquisition, with the Mathematical Association of America claiming it is inherently racially biased. This madness threatens to halt progress in its tracks.

This month, Americans got another bitter taste of ‘progressive’ insanity from one of the most unexpected of places. The Mathematical Association of America (MAA), which prides itself as “the world’s largest community of mathematicians, students, and enthusiasts,” came out and declared that “mathematics is created by humans and therefore inherently carries human biases.”

The MAA’s revelation came in its October newsletter, which reads more like a fiery political manifesto than any mundane briefing on the math scene. It continued, “Reaching this potential in mathematics relies upon the academy and higher education engaging in … uncomfortable conversations about the detrimental effects of race and racism on our community.”

Perhaps in no other period of human history could otherwise intelligent people speak with alarm about mathematical inquiry and the racial background of the problem solvers. What next? An angry throng of mathematicians protesting in the street, while getting in the faces of passers-by and patio diners demanding that they publicly confess to their mathematical heresies? Perhaps make them accept some new-fangled ‘ethno-mathematic’ system in its place? Will engineers, architects and other math-based professionals be accused of fomenting ‘racism’ for adhering to the models of dead white mathematicians? Where exactly will this insanity lead us?

On a personal note, I have never been very fond of mathematics, but I can readily appreciate the pleasure that mathematicians speak of when, after hours of arduous contemplation over a single problem, they finally arrive at the one and only indisputable answer. To quote the legendary British wit, Samuel Johnson, “You may have a reason why two and two should make five, but they will still make but four.”

And therein lies the problem with mathematicians attempting to hop aboard the social justice train: like it or not, mathematics is undoubtedly the most intensely objective field of study, where the results are not open for debate. In fact, it is nearly impossible to understand what the MAA even means by “human biases” when speaking about a science that is closed to personal interpretation and ‘feelings’, the byword of these emotion-fueled woke times.

For example, if it is discovered that a renowned white mathematician, who solved a long-standing math problem, was at the same time a slave owner, this regrettable news would do little to refute the veracity of his (or her) findings. Unlike the world of literature, for example, which regularly bans period novels that contain racial stereotypes and slurs, it would not be possible to ‘ban’ a mathematical solution due to the personal faults of the discoverer. Incidentally, I used the example of a white mathematician intentionally because, unfortunately, that seems to be where the focus of the MAA appears to be heading.

Indeed, even before the newsletter apologizes for the “inherent biases” of mathematics, it speaks out on behalf of ‘critical race theory’, a highly controversial concept which postulates that America is a country where, to quote a seminar hosted by none other than the US Department of the Treasury, “virtually all white people, regardless of how ‘woke’ they are, contribute to racism.” Due to their supposed “privileged” status and skin color, white people in America are characterized as “white supremacists” and natural-born “oppressors.”

Much to the consternation of the MAA, President Donald Trump banned these teachings at the federal level in an executive order, which, among other ideas, says the idea that meritocracy is “racist or sexist” is a “divisive concept.”

As if injecting political vitriol into the field of mathematics during an election year were not bad enough, these academics fail to understand that they themselves are encroaching on the government with unproven ideas of an extremely divisive nature. At a time when the country remains on edge over the killing of a black man at the hands of a white cop, a tragedy that seems more symptomatic of poor police training than any institutional racism, the MAA is simply fueling street protests as well as unprovoked violence against innocent white people.

At this point, it seems fair to ask about the situation inside the world of mathematics, dominated – as the MAA would have us believe – by knuckle-dragging oppressors of minorities. Consider the tragic case of Lisa Piccirillo, for example, a graduate student at the University of Texas, Austin. In the course of her studies, Piccirillo learned about the ‘Conway knot’, a problem that had baffled mathematicians for half a century. By the week’s end, the graduate student had already solved the riddle.

The young female ventured to present her findings to Cameron Gordon, a white professor at the university. So how did Gordon respond? Not by locking up the woman in the college dungeon and stealing her discovery, as one might suspect would happen by the alarming MAA newsletter. Instead, Professor Gordon promised to have her finding published in the Annals of Mathematics, one of the discipline’s top journals.

“He started yelling, ‘Why aren’t you more excited?’” recalled Piccirillo, now a postdoctoral fellow at Brandeis University. “He sort of freaked out.”

Or how about Philip Emeagwali, the Nigerian-born computer scientist who was educated at none other than George Washington University. Despite the “inherent biases” allegedly plaguing the math community, Emeagwali won the Gordon Bell Prize for high-performance computing applications using a novel mathematical formulation. Today, he is ranked as one of the most influential computer scientists in the world, and is said to be worth $250 million.

In closing, it seems that mathematicians like Piccirillo and Emeagwali, and countless other minorities, would not have had the opportunity to excel as they did if their fields of study were truly bastions of white oppression and racism. Instead of espousing what amounts to another form of racism, this time aimed at white people, the MAA, in the spirit of true mathematicians, should be required to provide proofs for their arguments lest they produce tragically wrong answers to the detriment of everyone.

The Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity : Can the Fed End Racism?

Posted by M. C. on October 14, 2020

Supporters of this scheme say that inflation raises wages and creates new job opportunities for those at the bottom of the economic ladder. However, these wage gains are illusory, as wages rarely, if ever, increase as much as prices. So, workers’ real standard of living declines even as their nominal income increases.

House Financial Services Chair Maxine Waters and Senator Elizabeth Warren have introduced the Federal Reserve Racial and Economic Equity Act. This legislation directs the Federal Reserve to eliminate racial disparities in income, employment, wealth, and access to credit.

Eliminating racial disparities in access to credit is code for forcing banks and other financial institutions to approve loans based on the applicants’ race, instead of based on their income and credit history. Overlooking poor credit history or income below what would normally be required to qualify for a loan results in individuals ending up with ruinous debt. These individuals will end up losing their homes, cars, or businesses because banks disregarded sound lending practices in an effort to show they are meeting race-based requirements.

Forcing banks to make loans based on political considerations damages the economy by misallocating resources. This reduces economic growth and inflicts more pain on lower-income Americans.

The Carter-era Community Reinvestment Act has already shown what happens when the government forces banks to give loans to unqualified borrowers. This law played a significant role in the housing boom and subsequent economic meltdown. The Federal Reserve Racial and Economic Equity Act will be the Community Reinvestment Act on steroids.

This legislation also requires the Fed to shape monetary policy with an eye toward eliminating racial disparities. This adds a third mandate to the Fed’s current “dual mandate” of promoting a stable dollar and full employment.

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell has already publicly committed to using racial disparities as an excuse to continue the Fed’s current policy of perpetual money creation. Since inflation occurs whenever the Fed creates new money, Powell and his supporters want a policy of never-ending inflation.

Supporters of this scheme say that inflation raises wages and creates new job opportunities for those at the bottom of the economic ladder. However, these wage gains are illusory, as wages rarely, if ever, increase as much as prices. So, workers’ real standard of living declines even as their nominal income increases. By contrast, those at the top of the income ladder tend to benefit from inflation as they receive the new money — and thus an increase in purchasing power — before the Fed’s actions cause a general rise in the price level. The damage done by inflation is hidden and regressive, which is part of why the inflation tax is the most insidious of all taxes.

When the Fed creates new money, it distorts the market signals sent by interest rates, which are the price of money. This leads to a bubble. Many people who find well-paying jobs in bubble industries will lose those jobs when the bubble inevitably bursts. Many of these workers, and others, will struggle because of debt they incurred because they listened to “experts” who said the boom would never end.

The Federal Reserve’s manipulation of the money supply lowers the dollar’s value, creates a boom-and-bust business cycle, facilitates the rise of the welfare-warfare state, and enriches the elites, while impoverishing people in the middle and lower classes. Progressives who want to advance the wellbeing of people in the middle and lower classes should stop attacking free markets and join libertarians in seeking to restore a sound monetary policy, The first step is to let the people know the full truth about the central bank by passing the Audit the Fed bill. Once the truth about the Fed is exposed, a critical mass of people will join the liberty movement and force Congress to end the Fed’s money monopoly.

The Great California Exodus | Mises Wire

Posted by M. C. on October 13, 2020

Not only is California going through power shortages but also suffering a government-induced water shortage. The state allowed clean fresh water to travel from rivers into the Pacific Ocean, refusing to consume the natural resource as part of efforts to appease green zealots. The other problem is that farmers are exempt from water restrictions and do not pay market prices. And yet residents can face fines of up to $500 per day if they take a long shower.

https://mises.org/wire/great-california-exodus?utm_source=Mises+Institute+Subscriptions&utm_campaign=0ca5137676-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_9_21_2018_9_59_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_8b52b2e1c0-0ca5137676-228343965

Andrew Moran

German author Franz Kafka wrote in The Metamorphosis, “There is an infinite amount of hope in the universe…but not for us.” The legendary writer might as well have been writing about the state of California, a progressive wasteland that is the personification of everything wrong with leftist orthodoxy. In the mid-nineteenth century, when it became a state, tens of thousands of people headed west. Today, those with a modicum of judgment and respect for their pocketbook are heading anywhere that is not named California, attempting to flee the incompetent mismanagement of Governor Gavin Newsom and his Democratic friends in Sacramento on every subject, from the economy to civil liberties.

The Exodus: A Primer

California may be the most populous state in the Union, but it could transform into the exodus capital of America. The Golden State has witnessed its population stall, declining slightly from 39.96 million to 39.78 million in the second half of 2019, according to the Department of Finance.

Growth has slowed close to zero or even declined in most coastal counties. The San Francisco Bay Area advanced, and counties east of Los Angeles witnessed modest growth. However, Los Angeles County shed residents for the second consecutive year in 2019. It is unclear how severe the population drop is in the aftermath of the Coronavirus pandemic and the state government’s proposed tax hikes.

Contrary to internet mythos, it is not only high-income earners who are packing up their things and saying goodbye to Newsom. Studies, including one from the Public Policy Institute of California and another by the Empire Center for Public Policy, have found that poorer households are more likely to flee than their affluent counterparts. But considering the policing being proposed or enacted, it is safe to say that the wealthy have no reason to be some of the left behinds.

California Nightmarin’

In August, California Democrats proposed a significant tax hike on the wealthy. The Assembly legislation includes raising the top income tax rate to 16.8 percent, retroactive to January of this year. It would boost the top rate to 14.3 percent for households earning more than $1 million, 16.3 percent on income over $2 million, and 16.8 percent on income above $5 million. A separate bill would slap a 0.4 percent tax on assets topping $30 million.

While this is damaging to the economy and may be considered isolated to the rich, everything else that California is doing is hurting and will continue to hurt everybody else.

Newsom recently signed an executive order that phases out the sale of all gasoline-powered automobiles by 2035. The EO will still permit these cars to be owned and sold on the used car market, but the measure will certainly push consumers to switch to the heavily subsidized electric vehicle market.

In a statement, Newsom also endorsed a ban on petroleum fracking. However, instead of taking executive action, he urged the California Legislature to adopt prohibitions or restrictions on fracking. This could potentially impact the more than 360,000 people who are employed in the oil and gas sector.

Despite being one of the wealthiest jurisdictions in the world, California is mirroring Venezuela by enduring rolling blackouts. For the first time in nearly twenty years, California is launching planned blackouts, prompting the governor to concede that the state needed to “sober up” about renewable energy sources failing to offer enough power for millions of residents at peak demand.

Although local left-leaning politicians and the mainstream press will allude to the widespread wildfires as evidence of climate change, it has been years of gross negligence contributing to the disaster. As Liberty Nation wrote in January 2019:

Most forests are engulfed in dead trees. The saplings are crushed together and consume the water that old-growth trees need, causing them to endure an infestation of pests and a precipitous slide to death. What is necessary is thinning, which can be performed by private logging firms.

California has even targeted freelancers as part of politicians’ crusades to save them from the free market’s vile exploitation. Last year, the governor signed into law AB5, a bill that would mandate companies to reclassify freelancers and contingent workers as full-time employees. Organized labor celebrated, but the laborers were outraged—and with good reason. In the immediate aftermath of the legislation, businesses let go of their freelancers, while professional freelancers lost thousands of dollars in income. The state has pivoted slightly, but instead of fully conceding the error of its ways, lawmakers insist AB5 is great.

Despite facing a tremendous budget gap and a pension crisis, the state is hatching a plan for slavery reparations.

And, worse, this is all in addition to the plethora of Coronavirus restrictions Newsom and his pals at the local level have introduced over the last six months.

The list of boondoggles, blunders, and botches can go as long as the lineup to the exit door.

#DontCaliforniaMyArizona

The situation in California has had a snowball effect. Every progressive prescription that has done more harm than good has converted the snowball into an avalanche, leading folks to the nearest exit. They want to hop off the ultraleftist train and find greener pastures. Many prominent figures are either waving goodbye or grieving about the situation. Ben Shapiro and The Daily Wire team have packed up their supplies and are headed to Nashville. Joe Rogan grabbed his cowboy hat and supply of DMT and sought refuge in Texas. Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Mookie Betts griped that the tax rates are crazy. Will you be next? If you have left-leaning views and travel to Texas or Arkansas, be sure to remember the hashtag #DontCaliforniaMyArizona.
