When I was in Iran, the government there blocked Twitter, effectively deciding for an entire nation what they cannot read. In America, Twitter itself purges users, effectively deciding for an entire nation what they cannot read. It matters little whose hand is on the switch: government or corporate, the end result is the same. This is the America I always feared I’d see…
The government remains a real threat to free speech. But there is another menace now: corporate censorship, often dressed up in NewSpeak terms like “deplatforming,” restricting “hate speech” and “fake news,” and “terms of service.” This isn’t entirely new: corporations have always done as they please with speech. Our protection against corporate overreach used to rely on an idea Americans once held dear, best expressed as “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend your right to say it.” This ethos was core to our democracy: everyone supports the right of others to throw their ideas into the marketplace, where an informed people push bad ideas away with good ones. Yesterday was a very dark day for free speech in America.
As the world witnessed the stunning collusion of Silicon Valley tech giants permanently banning Alex Jones and Infowars in a matter of 12 hours, conservative communications director for Turning Point USA, Candace Owens, saw her Twitter account suspended for her wordplay experiment with Sarah Jeong’s racist tweets, by switching the words from “white” to “jewish” and “black”.
Owens responded to her Twitter suspension…
RT CrossTalk host Peter Lavelle and The Duran’s Alex Christoforou break down the brilliant two-for-one bomb that Owens dropped on Twitter and the NYT’s Jeong.
Owen’s wordplay switcheroo not only called out the Harvard privileged Sarah Jeong for her racist hysteria, but also exposed the hypocrisy and bias of Twitter when dealing with the censorship of a conservative profile, as opposed to a liberal, ‘part of the team’, account. A new report from left-leaning VICE News revealed that Twitter is hiding the accounts of certain high-profile conservatives from users — which Breitbart News has been covering for years.
A new report published on Wednesday by VICE News details the ongoing censorship of conservatives on social media. This time, the offender is Twitter. You may not be on social media yourself, but chances are your friends and family are. Some of us are on there for work purposes and some so we can keep in touch with loved ones who live far away. There are valid reasons we have accounts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. But things are getting ugly out there in Internetland and it begs the question of whether social media is destroying humanity.
And even worse, is social media destroying humanity on purpose, because it was engineered to do so?
You’d have to live under a rock big enough to block all internet communications to not have heard about the privacy scandals that have plagued Facebook recently. From Cambridge Analytica mining user’s data to Facebook’s massive profits from your data, it’s been all over the news. Zuckerberg even had to testify to Congress about it for 10 hours recently, in the end apologizing for his part in the scandal.
But your lack of privacy may be just a drop in the bucket.

Computers, Tweets and ‘that sort of thing’ are how Dotcom makes his living. So I can excuse him from telling us the the best solution to Twitter’s tactics…forget social media.

Kim Dotcom has called on Twitter to stop ‘censoring’ tweets, saying he’ll create an alternative to the social network if it continues. Dotcom told RT he believes Twitter is targeting tweets about late DNC staffer Seth Rich.
Tweeting early Saturday, the Megaupload founder urged Twitter’s Jack Dorsey to “stop messing with our free speech” and warning that if Dotcom creates an alternative platform, “Twitter could be toast within a year”.

In a blog post this morning, Twitter’s Jack Dorsey explains why Twitter has decided to off-board advertising (effectively ban) from RT and Sputnik from advertising on the social network.

The list seems endless. Virtually any belief opposed by the radical left is branded “hatred” and that belief spoken becomes “hate speech.” The goal is to silence the conservative world view through censorship, period. The fringe will use every means available to pressure these online giants to follow suit. Will Facebook, Google, Twitter and Microsoft comply?
If you are really concerned about censorship ( and industrial scale data mining) just bail out of FB, google, MS etc.
Find or create something better. Better yet get rid. We managed a long time without them. I believe those, particularly young people, who broadcast every detail of their lives will regret the future that is in store.
Mr. Bozell presented a caring Mark Zuckerberg. This is the same MZ that conspired with Angela Merkel to censor anti-immigrant Facebook news.
Is MZ the next George Soros?
To paraphrase a former president ‘it depends on what your definition of censorship is’.
