Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Palestine, Libya-Going In Circles

Spanish born philosopher Santayana said those who ignorant of history are bound to repeat it. He also said only the dead have seen the end of war.

There was a predominate superpower hell-bent for world hegemony via compliant puppet governments. Military bases and an all powerful navy were spread throughout the world. Control of the Middle East was crucial. This superpower played allies and enemies against each other to further it’s agenda. Promises were repeatedly made and broken. Western powers all wanted a piece of the Middle East action.

The Middle East was made up of numerous tribes and sects, each of which had their own particular needs and goals. Many of these groups were at odds with their neighbors and religious variants.

This superpower was unable to recognize these rivalries let alone deal with them. The overall situation was incredibly complex. The superpower did not let ignorance hinder its efforts. Read the rest of this entry »

Ruth Marcus, Another Link in Netanyahu’s Chain of Fools

Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post suggests we should release Jonathan Pollard, the Israeli spy.

See here.

Her arguments leave something to be desired.

Marcus says we release/trade spies all the time.  She says Pollard is due for parole review in 2015 and if justice has been served then he should be released, all extraneous issues aside.   Maybe so, I will leave that to the conscience of government lawyers.

Marcus’ arguments go downhill from there.

Hey Erie Times-Take off the desert rose colored glasses

Pat Cuneo had the human interest column in today’s Erie Time Viewpoint page.  He is really steamed over some Republicans “undermining the Obama administration’s peace efforts between Israel and Palestine”.  I just don’t know where to start. Pat, I hate to let you down but ninety nine per cent of Congress doesn’t do anything Israel doesn’t want.  Read the rest of this entry »
