Trump Makes Post-Mueller Vow To Release “Devastating” FISA Docs | Zero Hedge

President Trump on Thursday renewed his vow to declassify a wide swath of “devastating” documents related to the Russia probe “and much more” – adding that he’s glad he waited until the Mueller investigation was complete. 

In a Thursday night phone interview on Fox News, host Sean Hannity asked “will you declassify the FISA applications, gang of 8 material, those 302s – what we call on this program ‘the bucket of five’?”

To which Trump replied: “Yes, everything is going to be declassified – and more, much more than what you just mentioned. It will all be declassified, and I’m glad I waited because i thought that maybe they would obstruct if I did it early – and I think I was right. So I’m glad I waited, and now the Attorney General can take a look – a very strong look at whatever it is, but it will be declassified and more than what you just mentioned.”

Last September 17th, Trump vowed to release all text messages related to the Russia investigation with no redactions, as well as specific pages from the FBI’s FISA surveillance warrant application on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page, and interviews with the DOJ’s Bruce Ohr.

Four days later, however, Trump said over Twitter that the Justice Department – then headed by Attorney General Jeff Sessions (while the Russia investigation was headed up by Deputy AG Rod Rosenstein) – told him that it might have a negative impact on the Russia probe, and that key US allies had asked him not to release the documents.

“I met with the DOJ concerning the declassification of various UNREDACTED documents,” Trump tweeted. “They agreed to release them but stated that so doing may have a perceived negative impact on the Russia probe. Also, key Allies’ called to ask not to release. Therefore, the Inspector General has been asked to review these documents on an expedited basis. I believe he will move quickly on this (and hopefully other things which he is looking at). In the end I can always declassify if it proves necessary. Speed is very important to me – and everyone!”…

This week President Trump admitted what the Washington policy establishment of both parties would rather be kept quiet. Asked why he intervened to block a new round of sanctions on North Korea, he told the media that he believes the people of North Korea have suffered enough. “They are suffering greatly in North Korea… And I just didn’t think additional sanctions at this time were necessary,” he said.

The foreign policy establishment in Washington, whether they are neocons, “humanitarian interventionists,” so-called “realists,” or even progressives have long embraced sanctions as a way to pressure governments into doing what Washington wants without having to resort to war.

During my time in Congress I saw many of my antiwar colleagues on the Left vote for sanctions because they believed sanctions are more “humane” than war. Neocons and other interventionists endorse sanctions because they know that sooner or later they will lead to war, their preferred foreign policy.

With his characteristic bluntness, President Trump has exposed this big lie…

The media, notably CNN, has mid-reported the “Charlottesville Hoax” to portray President Trump, falsely, as an antisemite.

CNN in particular has gone further and actually created a false impression of reality by editing video of Trump’s press conference deceptively, splicing it together with footage of a white supremacist march in Charlottesville to make it appear as though the president was referring to the participants as “very fine people” when he was not…

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) lied to thousands of people at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) annual policy conference on Monday, telling them in a speech that President Donald Trump had referred to neo-Nazis in Charlottesville, Virginia, as “very fine people” when the president had never done so.

The audience at AIPAC was predominantly Jewish, magnifying the impact and importance of the lie.

The context was Schumer’s attempt to condemn antisemitism on both sides of the political aisle, in the course of criticizing Democrats such as Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who had each made remarks suggesting American supporters of Israel owed “allegiance to a foreign country.”

Schumer said: “When someone says that being Jewish and supporting Israel means you are not loyal to America, we must call it out. When someone looks at a neo-Nazi rally and sees some very fine people among its company, we must call it out.”

The problem: the latter never happened.

As Breitbart News and others have pointed out repeatedly, President Trump was referring to legitimate protesters in Charlottesville who were demonstrating against the removal of a state of Confederate general Robert E. Lee, as well as non-violent left-wing protesters who opposed them and racism in general.

The president specifically excluded the neo-Nazis and white supremacists from his description of “very fine people,” as a transcript of his remarks makes clear beyond any possible doubt. He also condemned the neo-Nazis in a speech from the White House the day before that was carried live on cable news.

…After ripping McCain over the weekend for peddling the “Fake & Unverified” Christopher Steele Russia dossier to the FBI and the legacy media, Trump said on Monday that he “never will be” a fan of the late Arizona Senator.

“I was never a fan of John McCain and I never will be,” Trump said.

Trump criticized McCain again over his “thumbs down” vote on repealing Obamacare, saying he was “unhappy” that McCain did not give the White House a heads up about his “no” vote.

“I’m very unhappy that he didn’t repeal and replace Obamacare, as you know,” Trump said. “He campaigned on repealing and replacing Obamacare for year. And then he got to a vote and he said thumbs down.”

Trump said he could have gotten “somebody else” to repeal Obamacare had he known McCain was going to change his mind.

“I think that’s disgraceful, plus there were other things,” Trump added…

Trump Gives GM Ultimatum: Reopen Closed Lordstown, Ohio, Plant

“This country has done a lot for General Motors…

What about when Obama instigated government oversight of GM to stave off bankruptcy? A great lot of good that has done. Obama strong armed GM into selling the sales disaster that was the Volt.

GM has been digging their own grave for years. Government jumped in along side with a bigger shovel.

GM’s isn’t selling much beyond low mileage pickups. Aren’t those bad for us?

Keeping costs high will not help.

President Donald Trump this weekend called out multinational corporation General Motors (GM) for closing its first of four U.S. assembly plants it expects to shutter this year, urging GM CEO Mary Barra to quickly reopen the plant.

The bad guys wear black hats.

We’re programmed to see things in black or white, right or wrong, good or evil. From what we are shown in movies and books from an early age, there is a protagonist and an antagonist.

Clever writers make it a little more complex, with the Boo Radleys and Snapes who are thought to be villains but turn out to be heroes. But generally, the characters fit largely into extremes: good guys or bad guys with little overlap: Harry Potter versus Voldemort.

But it’s those characters on the edge who people can’t get enough of. Like Walter White, the cancer patient who starts producing meth to leave some money behind for his family in the TV show Breaking Bad.

And that’s probably because its an often unspoken truth that life is mostly gray, and not so black and white.

But the binary two choice meme has a function. It makes things a hell of a lot easier. And it prevents us from being crippled by indecision and inaction.

It may not turn out that way, but Trump’s approach is more realistic than those who dismiss it as dangerous idiocy. For all his verbal belligerency, Trump is a genuine isolationist who has yet to start a war anywhere. It is an achievement not to be underrated.

The exceptions are important but Trump does not get credit for them because of the knee-jerk hostility which rules out any possibility that Trump may be right and his vast array of critics wrong.

North Korea, Russia and Syria are good examples of the positive side of Trump foreign policy, however unorthodox its expression.

He may not have got as far as he wanted through talks with Kim Jong-un, but war in the Korean peninsula is certainly less likely than it was in pre-Trump times. Any contact between Trump and Vladimir Putin is portrayed by most news outlets as a hideous act of betrayal of the west. But Russia has a nuclear arsenal capable of blowing up the world several times over, so it is surely unwise to refuse to talk to, and treat as a pariah, the Russian leader who could press the nuclear button?

Trump’s sudden decision in December to pull US troops out of Syria was condemned by everybody from the most liberal Democrats to the most belligerent Republicans. They all jumped on to their moral high horses, but none proffered an alternative policy and happily pretended that the status quo was sustainable – though it is not.

The US is a bit player in Syria where the Kurdish-led forces it backs have largely defeated Isis. “Oh no they haven’t,” shouts the Washington foreign policy establishment, but Isis used to rule eight million people in a powerful state stretching from the outskirts of Baghdad to the Mediterranean. It now controls only part of a single small town, Hajin, in the depths of eastern Syria. The jihadis are never going to run up the white flag, but if this is not defeat it is something very close to it….

The reason so many people continue to misread the actions of US President Donald Trump is because they tend to confuse him with the actions and behaviors of past US administrations, where indiscriminate death and destruction was America’s calling card around a shell-shocked planet. Although certainly erratic in his actions, Trump thus far has been predictable on one score: keeping the powers-that-be guessing.

Last week, Donald Trump, acting unilaterally and within full power as Commander-in-Chief, derailed the Deep State’s plans for yet another disastrous regime change operation, announcing the withdrawal of US troops from Syria.

In a video released via Twitter, the American leader announced that, “We have won against ISIS…and it’s time for our troops to come home.”

In the not-so-distant past, such an announcement would have been greeted with cheers since it is generally agreed that war is – at least for those doing the grunt work – a very unpleasant enterprise. But the times have changed, together with the national agenda, and instead of applause filling the airwaves, the American people can hear nothing but the screeching of incensed hawks on both sides of the political aisle. Trump’s Decision to Leave Syria Was No ‘Surprise’ | The American Conservative

In 1966, in the midst of the Vietnam War, Vermont Senator George Aiken recommended that President Lyndon Johnson simply “declare victory and get out.” While what Aiken actually said was more complex (because the U.S. couldn’t win militarily, he implied, it should stop deploying troops and start deploying diplomats), his statement is commonly cited as an example of foreign policy wisdom—then, as now, a much depleted currency in Washington.

While it’s doubtful that President Donald Trump has studied Aiken’s views (or even heard of him), his decision on Wednesday to order the unilateral withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria is one of the few “Aiken moments” in American history. Not surprisingly, given Trump’s inclinations, the news came in a tweet posted by the president on Wednesday morning: “We have defeated ISIS on Syria,” Trump announced, “my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency.” U.S. officials later said that all U.S. troops would be removed from Syria over the next 60 to 100 days.

While the announcement took much of official Washington by surprise, The American Conservative has learned that a select group of administration officials, as well as a handful of senior military officers, knew of Trump’s decision as early as Saturday morning. According to these officials, all of whom required anonymity in exchange for the information, Trump’s decision came as a result of a lengthy telephone exchange he had had with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Friday. …This is simply a business decision. Obviously, the costs involved in running the five factories and employing the 14,000 jobs could not be done profitably.

The costs, price signals. on a daily basis signal to business operators what projects make sense to be taken on and continued and which are not profitable because the total resources required are being demanded at higher prices elsewhere.

This type of shift is a naturally occurring event in the economy that occurs all the time.

It should be cheered on as making the economy ex ante more efficient and productive.

However, the economic illiterate president is doing the exact opposite. He is threatening GM and says they better find new projects for the idled plants.

“They better damn well open a new plant there very quickly,” Trump said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal on Monday, noting that he talked to  GM Chief Executive Mary Barra Sunday night.

“I told them, ‘You’re playing around with the wrong person,’” Trump said.
