The Deep State dictatorship comes out of the closet

I’m often asked “How can you claim President Trump is in any way supporting your antiwar agenda when he …” and this is followed by a reference to at least one of the places on earth where he’s violating his “no more regime change” pledge or otherwise supporting the unsupportable, as in Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen. I’ve always answered by saying that, in the long run, and in a general sense, his November 2016 win was a giant step forward in that the anti-interventionist principle has been victorious even if it’s being imperfectly implemented.
However, back in April I raised the possibility of an active “resistance” inside the White House that is specifically preventing him from carrying out his mandate for peace. In “A President Held Hostage?” I outlined the scenario an anonymous White House official described in a recent New York Times op ed piece, wherein he or she describes the forces out to destroy Trump’s presidency:
“The dilemma – which he does not fully grasp – is that many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations.

We are very ready for war but not for peace.
The 22 Feb Erie Times guest voice, an ROTC company commander and Penn State history major, attempts to compare the use of militias in the war of 1812 to “lack of readiness” as the cause of our “problems” in Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. Payne could write for the Weekly Standard.
There is much to compare that was not mentioned.
The US defense budget is more than most of the industrialized world combined. Who else has 7 or 8 carrier fleets, ICBMs, spy satellites, the most advanced aircraft, 700+ bases in 170 countries, cameras in soldiers helmets and innumerable varieties of special forces? No one. How on earth can the US not be ready to defeat countries barely out of the stone-age? Yet we continue to get our butts kicked.
Men, women and matériel are not the issue. The people running the show are the problem. Today’s political and military leaders are like 1812’s William Hull. The incompetent Hull lead us to disaster in Canada. Defeated by forces that were half militia. Read the rest of this entry »

Isn’t it strange that one can be the lying, torture advocating leader of a Constitution shredding, drug dealing, government wrecking, child killing murder machine. But get caught with a girlfriend and you turn into a bad guy!
Two lamestream media items caught my attention lately.
First: The highly vocal complaints about Senator Hagel’s nomination as war department secretary.
The criticism we hear is Chuck is an enemy of Israel. Hagel’s concern is the influence of (note there is some imperative to put this in quotes as if it is some fantasy) “Israel’s lobby”. He does not think jumping into yet another war with a relatively powerful country, that has attacked no one, is a good idea. Nor does he think an Iranian embargo is a good idea. Indeed Senator Hagel has the chutzpah to actually say he is an American Senator first and his first duty is to uphold the Constitution!
William Kristol, Benjamin Netanyahu and the war party feel his priorities are misplaced. Israel always comes first, certainly ahead of you or me. How else to ensure we do Israel’s heavy lifting for them? Read the rest of this entry »

Michael Gerson, war party columnist, tells us how the recent Koran burning is only a minor blip. There is a little over-reaction by the Taliban but no big deal. Pat Buchanan actually puts some thought into this

I was about to visit Michael Gerson after his last tirade but that would get boring. Gerson’s obedient regurgitating of the Neo-Con war party dogma gets boring fast. Richard Cohen came to his rescue last week. Here. Cohen makes many accusations and I will try to intelligently respond where I can.
Cohen says RP would have let Nazi Germany take over Europe because he is “isolationist”. There are some that believe that if the U.S. had not entered WWI there would have been a stalemate. Read the rest of this entry »

Once in a while the radio gets boring and I switch to Sean Hannity for some light-hearted comedy after a grueling day at work. Rick Santorum was being interviewed, this being long before the election campaigning started. Our troops had just “discovered” a cache of empty gas cylinders somewhere in Iraq.
