Massive Peer-Reviewed Mask Study Shows ‘Little To No Difference’ In Preventing COVID, Flu Infection | ZeroHedge

Posted by M. C. on February 3, 2023

Move along, nothing to see here. Wear your mask, get your equally effective chemicals injected or else we will shut you down.

Don’t look for this study in the Erie Times-(News?).

A massive international research collaboration that analyzed several dozen rigorous studies focusing on “physical interventions” against COVID-19 and influenza found that they provide little to no protection against infection or illness rates.

The study, published in the peer-reviewed Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, is the strongest science to date refuting the basis for mask mandates worldwide.

And of course, the CDC still recommends masking in areas with “high” rates of transmission (fewer than 4% of US counties, as Just the News notes), along with indoor masking in areas with “medium” rates of transmission (27%).

Masks are still required in educational institutions in Democratic strongholds such as New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Washington and California, according to the Daily Mail. Boston Public Schools denied its “temporary masking protocol” in early January was a “mandate,” following a public letter against the policy by student Enrique Abud Evereteze.

South Korea is still requiring masks on public transport and in medical facilities after dropping COVID mandates in most indoor settings, including gyms, Monday, Reuters reported. -Just the News

According to the Cochrane study, which included the work of researchers at institutions in the  U.K., Canada, Australia, Italy and Saudi Arabia, a total of 78 studies were analyzed. Most recent additions to the meta-analysis were 11 new randomized controlled trials.

As unlisted study author Carl Heneghan – who directs the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine at the University of Oxford noted on Twitter: “Wearing masks in the community probably makes little or no difference to the outcome of influenza‐like illness (ILI)/COVID‐19 like illness compared to not wearing masks.”

Journalists Attack the Powerless, Then Self-Victimize to Bar Criticisms of Themselves – Glenn Greenwald

Posted by M. C. on March 29, 2021

The same Gannett/USA Today where people in Philadelphia, York and other places that couldn’t find Erie on a map, dictate what gets printed in “Your” Erie paper.

https://greenwald.substack.com/p/journalists-attack-the-powerless

Glenn Greenwald

The daily newspaper USA Today is the second-most circulated print newspaper in the United States — more than The New York Times and more than double The Washington Post. Only The Wall Street Journal has higher circulation numbers.

On Sunday, the paper published and heavily promoted a repellent article complaining that “defendants accused in the Capitol riot Jan. 6 crowdfund their legal fees online, using popular payment processors and an expanding network of fundraising platforms, despite a crackdown by tech companies.” It provided a road map for snitching on how these private citizens — who are charged with serious felonies by the U.S. Justice Department but as of yet convicted of nothing — are engaged in “a game of cat-and-mouse as they spring from one fundraising tool to another” in order to avoid bans on their ability to raise desperately needed funds to pay their criminal lawyers to mount a vigorous defense.

In other words, the only purpose of the article — headlined: “Insurrection fundraiser: Capitol riot extremists, Trump supporters raise money for lawyer bills online” — was to pressure and shame tech companies to do more to block these criminal defendants from being able to raise funds for their legal fees, and to tattle to tech companies by showing them what techniques these indigent defendants are using to raise money online.

The USA Today reporters went far beyond merely reporting how this fundraising was being conducted. They went so far as to tattle to PayPal and other funding sites on two of those defendants, Joe Biggs and Dominic Pezzola, and then boasted of their success in having their accounts terminated:

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Biggs fundraiser was listed as having received $52,201. Pezzola had received $730. Biggs’ campaign disappeared from the site shortly after USA TODAY inquired about it….

Friday, a USA TODAY reporter donated to Pezzola’s fundraiser using Stripe. Stripe told USA TODAY it does not comment on individual users. A USA TODAY reporter was able to make a $1 donation to Pezzola’s fundraiser using Venmo, a payment app owned by PayPal. After being alerted by USA TODAY, Venmo removed the account.

Soon a PayPal account took its place. PayPal caught that and removed it, too.

Wow, what brave and intrepid journalistic work: speaking truth to power and standing up to major power centers by . . . working as little police officers for tech giants to prevent private citizens from being able to afford criminal lawyers. Clear the shelves for the imminent Pulitzer. Whatever you think about the Capitol riot, everyone has the right to a legal defense and to do what they can to ensure they have the best legal defense possible — especially when the full weight of the Justice Department is crashing down on your head even for non-violent offenses, which is what many of these defendants are charged with due to the politically charged nature of the investigation.

The right to a vigorous defense has always been a central cause of mine as a lawyer and a journalist (it also used to be a central cause of left-wing groups like the ACLU, years ago; it was that same principle that caused then-candidate Kamala Harris to solicit donations last summer that went to protesters charged with violent rioting). A federal prosecutor was recently referred for disciplinary procedures for publicly threatening to charge some of these Capitol protesters with sedition, one of the gravest crimes in the U.S. Code. That is how grave the legal jeopardy is faced by these people trying to raise money for lawyers.

What makes all of this extra grotesque is that, as The Washington Post reported, most of those charged with various crimes in connection with the January 6 Capitol riot, including many whose charges stem just from their presence inside the Capitol, not the use of any violence, are people with serious financial difficulties: not surprising for a country in the middle of a major economic and joblessness crisis, where neoliberalism and global trade deals have destroyed entire industries and communities for decades:

Nearly 60 percent of the people facing charges related to the Capitol riot showed signs of prior money troubles, including bankruptcies, notices of eviction or foreclosure, bad debts, or unpaid taxes over the past two decades, according to a Washington Post analysis of public records for 125 defendants with sufficient information to detail their financial histories. . . . The group’s bankruptcy rate — 18 percent — was nearly twice as high as that of the American public, The Post found. A quarter of them had been sued for money owed to a creditor. And 1 in 5 of them faced losing their home at one point, according to court filings.

This USA Today article is thus yet another example of journalists at major media outlets abusing their platforms to attack and expose anything other than the real power centers which compose the ruling class and govern the U.S.: the CIA, the FBI, security state agencies, Wall Street, Silicon Valley oligarchs. To the extent these journalists pay attention to those entities at all — and they barely ever do — it is to venerate them and mindlessly disseminate their messaging like stenographers, not investigate them. Investigating people who actually wield real power is hard.

Erie Times E-Edition Article – Harris pick is a win for America

Posted by M. C. on August 14, 2020

The Erie Times-News supported Barack Obama – Marxist parents, communist mentor in Frank Marshall Davis.

Harris’ father an avowed Marxist professor at Berkley(!)

The Times is nothing if not consistent.

One wonders if the Mead family envisioned this.

The attacks, of course, began immediately. In Erie, Vice President Mike Pence’s nephew during a Wednesday campaign stop decried Harris — a career prosecutor — as a leftist radical. Absurd on its face, the charge also reprises a regrettable style of disingenuous, inflammatory politics that undermines the gravity and substance of voters’ deliberations.

We shall see.

https://erietimes-pa-app.newsmemory.com/?publink=05e311c7f

For all of the profound promises implicit in our country’s founding documents, the journey for all Americans to participate fully in them has been long, arduous and often deadly.

And it is not over. There remain many who seek either explicitly or through more opaque legal and political strategies to thwart the advance of civil rights and justice for all. Not just a matter of dark hearts and minds, the immense power at stake animates.

It was fitting that presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden and his newly chosen running mate, California Sen. Kamala Harris, appeared for the first time together Wednesday on the anniversary of and in repudiation of white supremacist violence that erupted in Charlottesville, Virginia, three years ago.

Harris, born in California, daughter of an Indian scientist and Jamaican professor, is the first woman of color and only the third woman in the history of the country to be chosen by a major party to run for the vice presidency, a heartbeat away from the presidency.

Considering Harris’ readiness — California’s former top prosecutor and now a sitting U.S. senator — and indeed that of so many other women Biden vetted, it should not come as a surprise. As Erie County Assistant District Attorney Khadija Horton told reporter Matthew Rink, Harris “deserved this.”

That reality only serves to underscore the damage the historic barriers to women, people of color, and others long oppressed have caused — not just to them, but the nation as a whole in the human capital squandered. Each advance of inclusion only makes us richer and stronger.

Biden on Wednesday rightly said America could be summed up in a word: “possibilities.” With Harris’ pick, that is what Erie political organizer Martha “Marty” Nwachukwu sees, young girls of color liberated to imagine new horizons for their lives and potential.

It is an affirmation, as Horton said, that “we really matter,” which is not a nicety in a country working to overcome an enduring legacy of enslavement, racial terror and systemic discrimination.

It also sullied this historic moment, which should be celebrated by every American, regardless of party or ideology.

Harris’ pick represents payment on a sorely overdue debt to Americans who, for generations remained barred —by law, violence and prejudice — from participating fully in American greatness, even as they worked so hard to establish, defend and perfect it.

Erie Times-News = Fake News?

Posted by M. C. on November 9, 2018

Erie PA Local section headline, oddly enough on election day: (Mayor) Schember: No Tax Increase in 2019 Budget  The weasel words are in the text-No property tax increase other details to follow.

The headline two days after the election: Tax, Fee Hikes Proposed. City income tax, sewer tax, garbage tax, amusement tax, $100 tax business tax.

The election day headline was pure BS pandering to the democratic administration. The ET-N expects us to swallow this baloney. It’s opinion of us is not high.

More taxes are a given. It is the only way government people know how to deal with government excess.  Reduction in the size of government is anathema, a government job killer.

Never forget where you news is coming from nor it’s sources.

Note in the margin: third parties received minimal coverage…as usual.

What Is A Conservative?

Posted by M. C. on October 21, 2018

I emailed this to the Erie Times News this morning. Let’s see if this one gets printed and how bad it is edited.

A phrase in a recent Erie Times-News letter promoting the Mueller circus stood out. Republicans are looking at Kasich, Flake and Sasse as a return to traditional conservative policies. There are no conservatives, traditional or otherwise. Who in government actively works for balanced budgets, honest (gold or silver standard) money, low taxes, non-interventionism, truly free markets (i.e. no federal reserve) and small government? No one.

Who has heard the terms True Liberal, Taft Conservative or Paleoconservative?

I can think of three presidential candidates that were these things and met an ugly Republican instigated political fate due precisely because of these beliefs-Robert Taft, Ron Paul and to a lesser extent Barry Goldwater.

Today’s conservatives believe the annual deficit should be less a trillion dollars, invading countries that never attacked US is OK and it might not be a good idea for our 9/11 financing friend Saudi Arabia to kill a Washington Post reporter. But US helping SA bomb Yemen school buses and wedding parties is acceptable foreign policy. More people in Yemen should work for WaPo.

That vibration you felt is Taft spinning.

The Clap(per)

Posted by M. C. on February 5, 2018

The key to getting a letter printed is to turn your initial thought-“What *****ng moron thought inviting this scum to Erie was a good idea”-into something insightful and elegant!

Letter to the Erie Times-News

The Erie County Bar Association has hired James Clapper, former NSA chief, as it’s featured speaker this May. If you wondered what the military/industrial/bankster/deep state complex looks like, a close up view is a mere $40.00.

I can understand Clapper’s attraction for a lawyer. He commits the ultimate crime in congress’ eyes, lying under oath (his denial of collecting every electron’s worth of personal communication of every honest US citizen). Later he admits to the crime as it has become so obvious. Then gets away without indictment nor wrist slap, let alone deserved jail time. Quite an accomplishment. It might be worth the price of admission to admirers.

Pennsylvania’s Budget Struggle-Lost Cause-A Letter to The Erie Times-News

Posted by M. C. on October 22, 2017

Pennsylvania’s great hope Governor Wolf remains hopelessly hogtied by the legislature. His plan is to borrow against PA agencies and property. This just adds red to the PA balance sheet. What about next year when PA is in the same position?

People and business are leaving PA in droves due to an unfriendly business climate that includes taxes and regulation. There is a great rib place in Geneva Ohio that cooks ribs outdoors on grills. They told us PA regs would not allow them to cook on a grill. Who else has the legal backing to strong arm kids running the black market lemonade and hot dog stands? Read the rest of this entry »

Erie Sidewalk Tax

Posted by M. C. on June 11, 2017

Look up rustbelt and there will be a picture of Erie PA. People and businesses are leaving Erie and Pennsylvania in droves.

Taxes are one of the issues not conducive to these entities.  PA has one of the largest and most expensive state legislatures which is sinking PA in debt. Read the rest of this entry »

Erie Times-News Endorses Clinton Because Of Her Accomplishments But Fails To Name Any-I Will

Posted by M. C. on October 31, 2016

…her intellect, cumulative experience and long record of public service make her a better choice than Republican nominee Donald Trump by a long shot.

..Clinton has built a breadth of experience and a record of leadership that equips her to lead the nation through the tricky currents and perilous rapids of these turbulent times.

That record includes an enduring dedication to the welfare of children, her stature as a global role model for and champion of women, and crucial experience as a leader of the nation’s foreign policy apparatus.

This sounds great except nowhere does the ET-N actually mention any accomplishments.

Regarding women and children-Clinton acknowledges her child welfare model was Margaret Sanger, the inspiration for planned parenthood.  Sanger like Hillary was a progressive, one of the originals.  Being true to Progressives of the time Sanger was a eugenicist.  Deplorables such as those of color, lacking in skills and or “feeble-minded”, as determined by the government, should be sterilized, not permitted to reproduce.  If per chance a deplorable should find themselves with child there was always abortion.

her stature as a global role model for and champion of women…Iraq WAS a relatively good place for a Muslim woman as is Iran.  Saudi Arabia whom she loves and supports (and in turn is supported) not so much.

Hillary’s foreign policy accomplishments are her number two defining quality (number one described below). Read the rest of this entry »

Erie Times-News Doesn’t Print Another Letter

Posted by M. C. on September 14, 2014

I must return to the original purpose of this blog, to circumvent the limitations imposed by my beloved local rag.  The lamestream media has been really getting to me and I had to vent via a letter to the editor.  Apparently it hit too close to home.  Here goes.

We read about supposed Russian aggression next door to them in Ukraine. Yet we never hear how the State Department (search for assistant secretary Victoria Nuland’s “$%@& the EU” cell phone conversation), National Endowment for Democracy and CIA aided and abetted the overthrow of the previous government. All because Victor Yuschenko decided Billions in Russian bailout money trumped Millions from the EU. Food is big business in Ukraine. US agribusinesses that advertise on Sunday morning news shows have much to gain with a US sock puppet in charge. Read the rest of this entry »
