Russia invaded Afghanistan in 1979 and left after 9 years, realizing it was a no-win situation. The US invaded the ‘graveyard of empires’ in 2001. Sixteen years later there are no signs of leaving.
Russia fights Al Qaeda and helps their ally, Syria, fight ISIS. Syria is in Russia’s neighborhood. Al Qaeda attacked the US. Saudi Arabia financed the operation. ISIS has sworn to destroy the U.S. The US supports Al Qaeda and ISIS in overthrowing the main stabilizing force in the Middle East, Syria. The US pays Saudi Arabia to do the same. We let ISIS have its way and pour money training and supplies on All Qaeda. Life is so much better in the Middle East since we first supported Mujahadeen.

Apparently we haven’t done enough to this poor country. After Hillary Clinton turned Libya from a relatively stable though corrupt country to the world headquarters for ISIS, pentagon marionette Obama is going to make it better. I am sure Libya’s bad luck will hold.
See here to see why.
Here is a funny/sad tidbit from the article describing some of what Hillary has wrought.
Take a look at what we’re getting ourselves into: with no less than three governments, lawless Libya is a perfect example of Ronald Reagan’s famous dictum that “government is the problem, not the solution.” Yes, that’s right, the former domain of Ghaddafi has three rival “governments.” Go ahead and count ‘em:
- The General National Congress (GNC), headquartered in Tripoli, is controlled by Islamist militias and backed by Turkey, Qatar, and Sudan.
- The Council of Deputies, located in Tobruk, is basically the instrument of Gen. Khalifa Hiftar, a known CIA asset who used to live a few miles from the Agency’s headquarters.
- The UN-appointed “government of national unity,” which was never elected by anyone and had to be shipped into the country by boat because the Tripoli authorities wouldn’t let their plane land.
Be seeing you

An attack against LBGTs or anyone else is a bad thing. I am not implying otherwise.
Sunday afternoon I became aware of a “massacre” reminiscent of Virginia Tech and an attack on the LBGT community. Little mention of a radical Islamist terrorist attack.
I found it interesting how much information was made public on Omar Mateen only twelve hours later.
The FBI had targeted him for investigation two or three times and misdiagnosed him benign. He had made the pilgrimage to Mecca. He appears to have been influenced by a local ant-gay imam and the current anti-gay ISIS rants.
His lying father says Omar was not particularly religious and was fairly normal. Read the rest of this entry »

There ain’t nothin’ more powerful than the odor of mendacity-Big Daddy in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof.
As Philip Giraldi succinctly describes here, nothing is what it seems or as we are told when it comes to ISIS.
The Saudis and Gulf States prefer ISIS to anything Shia and support Al Qaida and ISIS in Iraq and Syria much as they did Al Qaida in the US in 2001.
NATO ‘partner’ Turkey prefers ISIS to Kurds with its open (to ISIS/Al Qaida) borders and it’s downing of a plane belonging to the most effective ISIS opponent Russia. The son of Turkey’s leader runs the ships that carry ISIS oil.
Israel has been treating Al Qaida casualties. Israel buys ISIS oil. Read the rest of this entry »

Iran is divesting themselves of nuclear material and centrifuges. Our national intelligence estimates have told us Iran has not been working towards nuclear weapons since 2003 or so. Iran is following all the rules. They are getting their money back and sanctions lifted.
As we have mentioned in the past The Haaretz reported Bibi Netanyahu as telling the Knesset that his fear wasn’t that Iran would not meet disarmament requirements but that they would. Uh oh! Read the rest of this entry »

Tom Ridge 12-18-15
The attached Tom Ridge editorial appeared in the 18 Dec Erie Times News. Tom Ridge is a neocon poster boy. He accepted W’s offer to start the department of homeland security after 9/11. Ridge is a local hero. First a representative, then PA governor, had the Erie airport named after him, then made the father of DHS, now an international security consultant making a bundle from terrorism. The editorial is worth a read to see where Ridge and my editorial response below come from.
Tom Ridge’s 18 Dec editorial on confronting terror was so divorced from reality I am forced to comment.
“(America) has led the free world by tapping into humanity’s courage and sense of duty, not hate, to overcome evil.” So many empty words in such a small space. What sense of duty led the US to tear the Middle East apart? Was it the CIA’s duty to overthrow the Iranian government in 1953 and install the brutal Shah? Was it Ambassador Alice Glaspie’s duty to give Saddam Hussein the green light to invade Kuwait so we would have an excuse to retaliate? Is it our duty to vaporize every Middle Eastern male capable of holding a gun or shovel, broom, hoe or anything that looks like a gun from a drone camera?
And no, Donald Trump is not a ‘go it alone’ guy. When Trump says he has no problem with Russia taking on ISIS fear strikes the hearts of neocons. Anyone that threatens US control and power anywhere on the planet must be put in their place.
Next come the real whoppers. Read the rest of this entry »

Souffler en Arriere (French for Blow Back according to Google Translate) is what happened Friday the thirteenth.
When I hear blowback I think of overthrowing the Iranian government in 1953 and the resultant Embassy takeover in 1979. I think of 9/11 when Bin Laden said we went over there because you are over here. I now think Paris and that ISIS went there because the French are over there.
Not that anyone acknowledges those realities nor that some of the perps were known entities. Instead we hear failure speeches on how the Paris attacks are the fault of Edward Snowden and publicly available encryption.
Now that France has been again placed in the frying pan Francois Allende wants to turn up the heat. He is calling on his “friends” to help fight the bad guys. Allende will not be doing himself any good by ratcheting up the French presence in the Middle East. Allende’s piece of the oil pie will be expensive. Read the rest of this entry »

A few days ago I heard the following paraphrased soundbite on NPR.
Turkey has launched attacks in Syria against ISIS and Kurdish rebels.
Is that it? Such an important development in a complex context and all we get is a dozen or so words.
Turkey has been covertly aiding ISIS and Al Qaida because they are doing the ‘regime change’ heavy lifting in Shiite Syria. Al Qaida has been allowed to freely cross the Turkish border into Syria. Thanks to Seymour Hersch we know Turkey supplied ‘moderate’ Al Qaida with the chemical weapons used in the attacks blamed on Assad. ISIS bad, Al Qaida not so much.
Maybe all is not as presented to us. The key is in the attacks on the Kurds. This may be where most of the Turkish effort is going. Read the rest of this entry »
